It's not exactly a masterpiece for general audience, but for a fan of the show, who is deeply attached to the characters and wants to see them do stuff in a grander setting, this movie was honestly a dream come true, both for it's upgraded visuals and action-packed storytelling. My eyes were constantly pleased while viewing it, and that was simply just good enough for me.

The animation is great. Its a fun story. It has its flaws but overall its a good movie and I think it has aged quite well. When I first watched it I wasn't too moved by it but recently watching it again about a year ago I liked it a lot more. Its a fun cartoon movie, and does its job

It’s nice to see 2D animation even if they rarely get released, or it’s 2D but it’s not hand drawn. That’s something the new Space Jam failed where the Looney Tunes are in 2D at the beginning but later when the basketball game happens they all go to CGI, I’m not saying CGI movies are a bad thing but they have just dominated the animation industry for a long time and it’s very rare we would see 2D animated features that are flash or hand drawn.

The animation in this movie is like nothing that I’ve ever seen. It looks absolutely stunning, and i especially love the 3D effect when the six are running away from the place where they meet Capper (I’ve forgotten what it’s called lol).

The look is impressive, but I thought the animation was oddly "flash" like and robotic at the time. Spider-verse had better animation but the two have a nice look to them.

It’s called Klugetown. There are comic books that give the backstory. There’s also a chapter book: The stormy road to Canterlot. It’s written at a middle school level. It’s Tempest’s full backstory. I highly recommend it.

I honestly love this movie. It’s got its problems, but I definitely think that it deserves to exist. However, I do have to admit that the movie really only works if your already a fan of the series. If your trying to get people interested in mlp, then you need to start with Friendship Is Magic. This movie is definitely not the first thing you should show newcomers.

Agreed, i mean i don't hate the Storm King but i do think that they could've done a lot with him as a villain, hell he didn't show up until like halfway near the end of movie for crying out loud, in fact i remember a lot of people saying that the movie would've been better off if Tempest Shadow/Fizzlepop Berrytwist was the main antagonist and on some level i agree with that too.

If Tempest were the main villain, her redemption arc would have been less believable in a 99 minute movie. There was some backstory for the Storm King in comic books. It probably should have been integrated into the movie.

The sudden complete roundness of the ponies was actually needed for the rigs! I own the art book and there's a page with notes explaining how the joints for the puppets needed to be rounded out to rig them effectively in Harmony.

The only thing i didn't like about the movie was the Storm King, he was such a waste of a villain i mean i don't hate the Storm King i'm just saying that they could've done a whole lot more with him as a villain, especially since he didn't show up until like halfway near the end of the movie and he didn't really do much as a villain either because literally the only thing he did was raise and lower the sun and moon, i think the movie would've been better off if they made Tempest the main antagonist instead.

I remember when younger me went on the MLP wiki, found the announcement poster for the movie and thought "whoa, 2017? That's ages away". It sounded like such a big, cool number. I did enjoy the movie, though. It's a fun time and that's all I could really ask for.

Not gonna lie, I really dig the animation. I find the film as a pretty charming flick for what it is, and honestly as a person who is really nostalgic about MLP, I really had a lot of fun with the film. Also your timing for jokes is good and I loved the little visual gags too! (And yes I remember that one Song Sia sings that being Rainbow)

One thing that always bugged me about this movie, is how bronies reacted to the scene where Twilight and Pinkie blow up at each other and bronies automatically blacklist Twilight without considering the events that lead up to it. Twilight's actions were not out of petty spite, but out of anxiety driven pressure. I understand why Novo was not willing to instantly comply, but I also understand Twilight's motivations since Equestria was on the line, and her friends weren't exactly being the most helpful by not being the least bit cautious. But what I also like is how unlike the Season 8 episode, "Horse Play", neither side is favored. Pinkie and the others acknowledge that they should've at least tried to understand things from Twilight's perspective. Its not outright stated, but I figured it out. What I don't like is how Twilight is the ONLY mane six member that is NEVER given ANY benefit of the doubt, and this just felt like another instance of that.

I personally didn’t like how they handled Twilight. She just didn’t feel like she was actually friends with the Mane 6 at all. She’s so cynical and pessimistic, even before the arrival of the Storm King’s forces. It’s like they threw the Season 1 premiere Twilight into the role.

Well to be fair, she's under pressure from the invasion in the first act, so she's bound to crack sooner or later. On top of that, she's easily overwhelmed. Does it excuse her actions in the movie? Heck no. But it is understandable why she did them.

Yeah. I went to see it in theater with my friend, and we absolutely *loved* it. Especially Storm King and Grubber. Early on recognizing them as “Evil Roleplayers” really helped to enjoy their antics during the entire thing :D And afterwards we made ourselves a new RP section with the subtitle “In the name of evil RPers”™️ :DDD

I still often listen the songs from the film (and the whole show in general). I did not really liked We Got This Together first, but it grown on me later. One Small Thing is my least favourite. I mean, it's fine, but I don't want to listen repeatedly, so I don't get it why KZbin almost always pops up that first when I want songs from the movie. Shouldn't it based on my liking? I listen the other songs way more often, so it'd make more logical sense to recommend me literally any other movie song... Maybe it thinks I never to listened it...

Everyone talks about the animation but the absolute best part for me is the music. Holy hell, there is not a single song featured in it that misses for me, save MAYBE the opening song, but even that slaps pretty hard. EDIT: Name every song? There are four prequel comic books about the characters from the movie and also a whole book dedicated to Tempest's adventures (The Stormy Road to Canterlot). So The Movie really is a long final episodes that concludes the big story of Tempest and Storm King.

I personally didn't like how the Mane 6 acted so helplessly towards the other creatures despite them being... you know, way more powerful than the rest. This is a problem that the show also had at the beginning, with them being scared of dragons for no reason, but I feel this was taken to the extreme in the movie and this is bad because this was also the gateway for mainstream audiences to know about FiM, and I don't know if they would get a good impression of the show by watching a version of the protags that are always helpless and scared

I for one enjoyed the film. While it was a bit overdue since the popularity of the series was waning, it still managed to deliver a compelling story while still utilizing the classic form of 2D animation. Also that film was what introduced me to the now obscure web series Hanazuki: Full of Treasures with that fantastic theatrical short.

While the MLP movie is FAR from being worse than the emoji movie (looking at you, IGN 🤨), I’d say it’s still a pretty fun movie with just a few flaws. It still holds up pretty well and it’s just a nice movie to watch to cheer you up! A flaw that the movie *did* have, however, was that the Storm King wasn’t really a developed villain - they seemed to put much more work into Tempest which could have easily made her a great main villain if the Storm King wasn’t there. Another gripe is that some of the main six needed more attention, and other less. Either way, the movie was okay!

When I was still in High School, we have to make a presentation about music we liked. I briefly talked about the Daniel Ingram's work, so I showed songs from MLP too. Most of my classmates were not watching MLP, but when I showed Open Up Your Eyes, one of them was on the verge of crying, like that song is just that good. I showed Time To Be Awesome too, because she needed something more uplifting after that. + One day I listened my playlist with my headphones and someone asked what am I listening. I showed her. It was SIA's Rainbow. She said she finds the song beautiful, it spoke to her, and asked me to send it to her. She was surprised where was it from, but still vibed with it. It just makes me happy how music can bring people together and make them feel various emotions even without knowing (deeply) about the source material. I also like songs from things I didn't watched...

A fun thing to try while watching the movie: turn on the audio description track. It’s made for visually impaired people. The narrator speaks with minimal emotion, in order to sound different than the dialogue. This makes for funny moments, as silly things are described. Also, when Twilight comes down from the sky near the end, she shows some excitement. It’s a real person, not software.

Also Storm King and Palpatine using lightnings, Tempest and Vader being missunderstood, badly injured (including scar on face), changing their name after joining "the evil side" and wearing black armor, Twilight tryning to convert Tempest to be good while being led to Storm King just the way Luke did with Vader while being led to Palpatine, Twilight saving Tempest like Luke saved Vader, Tempest sacrificing herself to save Twilight from Storm King the way Vader killed Palpatine and Storm King dying after falling down just like Palpatine... George Lucas is coming for his money.

It's always pleasant to hear articulated thoughts that I've never pinned down and make up my mind on a few things I hadn't considered, whether or not I agree. It feels settling. I think the movie would have been substantially improved if the original intro song had been used. The symphonic piece keeps the spirit of Equestria while the pop song just feels like trying too hard with the kids. Kids can love beautiful symphonic music too dangit! Not everything has to jump in your face like "I Got the Beat" or whatever it's called.

I'm kind of glad this movie came out when it did because this movie is why I got into the show in 2017 I started seeing every mainstream animated movie in the theater so this was coming out and at the time I hadn't seen the show so about two months before the film came out I watched some episodes and instantly became a fan and watched every episode that was out at the time As for the movie itself I think it's genuinely great even taking away my love for the show I see it as solid Charming fun

I can't help but feel that the narrative is pretty weak, the new characters don't get much screen time to be fleshed out, and there's a lot of transitional moments with no dialogue or anything interesting on screen that last longer than they should. That aside, I loved the musical numbers (still listen to them regularly on the stereo) and the animation style, despite its quirks, is quite unique and pleasing to look at.

The animation is stunning in this movie, I love how the ponies are restyled to where they look more cinematic but also stay more true to the show. DreamWorks needs to take notes on this as a similar film "Spirit Untamed" was restyled to look more like they came out of the Boss Baby or Croods rather than Spirit Riding Free. Soundtracks are great, love the fact that the original cast was talented enough to not need a recast and provide good editing and voice acting for the movie. But this film is so predictable. MLP needed to stop after Season 9 as bringing back old villains wasn't doing it for me and that the Storm King is literally Tirek. This didn't need to be a movie, it was already told in Season 4. They started getting really weak with villains after a while. Cozy Glow being the only refresher. Great introduction to new characters and places but same issue here. Its fine overall

I think they had plenty of storylines without re-visiting the movie characters. They didn’t even have much time with the Student Six. There were only 2 seasons after the movie, it probably wasn’t worth finding replacement voice actors. Also, I noticed that following Friendship is Magic doesn’t depend on watching Equestria Girls. Hasbro may have wanted it the same way with the movie.

I think Twilight's character in the movie could be explained plausibly by the fact that she was the only head of state remained, she ran in exile and in an almost hopeless quest towards strange unknown lands, in order to find a queen they know nothing about. That's a lot of weight to shoulder but the impression she got from her friends looked like they didn't take it seriously, in her perspective, even though their friends might be contributing "methodically" by solving individual friendship problems, thence forming allies. Thinking twice I wouldn't be surprised that Twilight became desperate and did something stupid, like theft. It's hard for people to uphold principles in despair. Similarly one wouldn't care if a beast is endangered species when it tries to kill them.

I really enjoyed the My Little Pony movie 2017. Even the songs.

One problem I had with this movie was how little most of the Mane 6 (7?) did. Spike, Applejack, Rarity (sorta) and especially Fluttershy didn't really do anything in terms of advancing the story. I get why, as corners were probably cut and Twilight, Pinkie and Dashie are the most popular of the group and you can't really make sure everyone has something to do, but still. I am admittedly biased though, as Fluttershy and Rarity are my top 2 favorites and Spike is up there somewhere too

What I liked: badass (tempest) and funny antagonist (storm king), Capper, decent songs (ekhm sia and Lukas Graham), and almost all moments after "open up your eyes" until to the end, sometimes good jokes What I disliked: Twilight being "unfirendly" until getting captured by tempest (but it doesn't mean that I defend rest of the mane 6), plot holes (why after capturing Twilight wasn't turned into stone?), Grubber

I watched it again last week. Of course the animation is amazing! 10/10, so cute. As far as the storyline goes, it's not too bad. For Tempest to be so cold I wish her backstory was more tragic or presented differently. I know they had to have conflict between the M6 however, the way Twilight tried to steal the pearl was OOC. She was way too harsh on Pinkie. I felt like the ponies were weak/dumb and seemed like they had never seen enemies before.... Nevertheless I understand a movie needs to stand on it's own from the series and can't be perfect-friends-perfect-actions

it's an okay movie. it's definitely not as bad as SOME critics said - like seriously, i remember seeing this one critic calling it "worse" than The Emoji Movie.... i wish i was kidding! - but as the full-length movie adaptation of the greatest MLP gen we've had so far, it could've been better

I'm actually glad they chose not to fix Tempest's horn and, in fact, showed she was still capable of amazing things in spite of her handicap. I believe telling children that disabilities aren't necessarily things that need to be fixed is a good message.

The fact this movie came out in the same year as The Emoji Movie, I'd choose this movie. It's not at all Disney-level quality, but it's the charm and character that mattered. It feels like the equivalent of a Don Bluth film.

Well I really liked the movie it was nice to see a world exspand so much with the movie. Although I do agree that some sense seem to be missing for the toys they made. I wish Grubber would have made a few background appearances in the main show. He kinda was Fizzlepop Berrytwists second in command and never was much of a threat. Just there for comedy. Also it would have been funny if the one guard Fluttershy was talking to ended up living with her or somewhere nearby just because of her kindness. Wait it's a SCP would that make us all part of it?

I liked this movie more than even most pony fans because I actually preferred the big grand adventures over the slice of life stuff like Rainbow Roadtrip. Such a shame they didn't use this animation for the G5 movie.

im not a brony, but i agree. i saw it at the movies satirically when it came out, and it was actually good. it looks amazing, and is different from the show without straying too far away. + spike has fangs

this movie is one of my favorite partz of the series to go back 2!!! it'z got a special place in my part, and honestly the only thing i don't like about it was how reluctant twilight was to getting help from her friendz, but that's something she did up until season 8 so i can't knock it too hard. the animation and songz are SO fantastic and just such a fun time!!
