Nice workout. I like to keep my nutrition simple - all liquid on the bike. Company called FastFood (they sponsor Joe Skipper and some others) makes a hydrator product that is awesome. I do 3 scoops/bottle x 6 bottles on the bike. Each bottle: 300 calories, 75g carbs, and 1140 mg sodium. With 6 bottles (3 on bike, 3 in SN) it works out to between 82 and 85g carbohydrate/hr on a 5:15-5:30 ride. Last 3 bottles alternate caffeinated and non caffeinated. On a hot day I may take an S Cap every hour and if I’m feeling depleted I’ll keep a Maurten on the bike just it case. Grab a water at an aid station to rinse mouth and pour over myself. Live off the course on the run. S Cap and Maurten every 30 min alternating between caffeinated and non caffeinated with water at every station. Good luck, I’ll be at Placid as well.

Keep grinding! I’m training for my first 70.3 right now. Btw it sounds like your chain is rubbing pretty bad on your front derailleur or something. Hard to tell but it definitely shouldn’t sound like that!

Good luck with training! Getting a tune up hopefully later this week or next so hoping that’ll fix my chain issues 🙏🏼

are you planning any open water swim practice before your race?

Any recommendations for a good cycling bib where your butt doesn’t hurt after an hour? 😂

After your longer workouts, what does the rest of your day look like? For me it is a lot of eating and watching tv, with some stretching, message gun, and/or red light at the end of the day.
@ashtontrains9 ай бұрын
A lot of food and sleep 😂

when you first started bike training for your first half ironman, was there any stress on your arms? I just got a road bike and am wondering if its something you get used to.

Slightly but I think since I was used to weight training, I didn’t notice it much. It may just take some time to adjust!

Just to be safe, I’d suggest getting a sweat test to make sure you are getting enough sodium in the bike.

Would love to do one of those some day just haven’t thought about it
@RobHale819 ай бұрын
@@ashtontrains I worry that 700mg/hr of sodium is going to be too low and destroy your run. I could be wrong, but better to know for sure.

Try adding real food in on the bike, banana, PB&J Sandwich or some bars etc, can make a big difference. Did IM UK last year and doing Wales this year, good luck with lake placid.
@ashtontrains9 ай бұрын
I’ve thought about that - did your carry any real food for your last full? Feel like it’ll be hard to hold onto it during ride.
@joemallenphotography5439 ай бұрын
Yes, I grabbed bannanas at aid stations and had 2 bars, I also had a peanut butter Sandwich în my special needs bag and a few spare gels if needed incase I dropped anything. I carried stuff în my tri suit pocket at the back and a top tube bag on bike. When you ride outside see what you are comfortable carrying and where@@ashtontrains

Oldest NY Dragon...just get a proper Tri bike where u can ride on a Tri position and go riding outdoors !!! don't squeeze your brains on longer Zwift rides which have nothing to do with outdoor's reality !!! Spring certainly has already arrived to NY so enjoy the fresh air in your face and the elements... don't become a Zwift freak (those who don't ride outdoors) The Community would like to see as well your new laundry machine !!! to be sure u don't keep your sweating and dirty cycling kit hanging around unwashed...just keep on with your amazing work.
