The hang up and call again advice is golden. Asking for a supervisor will just prolong the agony, so why not just call again with the single goal of getting a different agent?

This is also why you NEVER book 3rd party. A lot of these credit card points channels always leave out that booking through a portal is not a guarantee. Learned this when my wife worked for hilton. They always bumped 3rd party for a direct book in an overbooked situation. Not saying its impossible booking direct, but its highly unlikely and they will do stuff to comp you (pay for a nearby hotel, future free stay etc) vs saying "take it up with Expedia they have your money"

Marriott World Center (Orlando) walked me, gave me $200 and 90,000 points and said "go to the Swan/Dolphin". I did, nice one night stay, and the Swan/Dolphin (forget which, it was a year ago) billed me about $500. It took 2 months and about 9 hours on the phone to get them to understand they were wrong. I could have given up, but then I would have only broken about even, and it was THEIR mistakes. Finally, it was resolved, and they even, as a gesture of compassion, comped the $7 ice cream cone I had charged to my room when I finally got in. What has happened to Marriott??

The Marriott benefits are great but I’ve found there is little corporate can do in the moment if the hotel refuses. Especially true for the guaranteed late checkout benefit at non resort properties.

I booked a Fairfield outside Atlanta for 4 nights, and the hotel clerk accidentally cancelled my booking at check-in. He created 2 new reservations that overlapped and extended my stay. The night shift manager accused me of being dishonest about my checkout date, and claimed the system would take care of the overlapping night. Guest service created a 4th reservation to mirror my original, and after initially agreeing to cancelling the 2nd and 3rd reservation, the shift manager slammed the phone down on guest service. I was asked to talk some sense into her, but to no avail. It took 2 conversations with the head manager, and 8 more📱to get it all sorted out. I soon Bonvoyed my way to Hilton and IHG.

Horror Story: I’ve had pretty bad luck with Marriott, including corporate. Booked a room, get to the hotel with a reservation, told it’s been canceled and “we’re sold out”. Called corporate and the lady cussed me out when I told her that I thought they canceled my reservation for a higher paying guest and to please put me up for a night in another hotel. Never again will I count on Marriott.

Hey so marriot cards come with one free night a year but you can only go up to 35,000 points. I was looking the other day and even Fairfields and Springhills were coming up to 50,000 points or more. So tell me how these cards could possibly be worth it!? Marriot points just seem like a horrible redemption period.

Sheraton in downtown Dallas last year for a work conference. I booked with the conference promo code...others booked w/ Gov per diem. Everyone that booked with per diem got walked, but put up at the JW Marriott and extra points. Which was a nicer hotel in my opinion, but it as about a 10-12 min walk.. in the Dallas summer

So I want to maximize my Marriott Bonvoy points for a vacation. I know I can transfer Amex points directly to Marriott, but I also have many Capital One Points. Can I transfer my Capital one points to a transfer parter (ie Air Canada), and then re- transfer miles from Air Canada to Marriott Points?

The entire overbooking argument about them needing to raise fares if they did not overbook is total nonsense. They could easily just take a deposit and charge no shows. This would be preferable for any customer that isn't an idiot who would make a reservation and then forget about it. If you fail to show, that is on you and you have to pay. If its due to an airline delay, then that stinks but you can buy travel issurance or potentially a credit card that has it.

I booked Crockfords Vegas for CES in January through FHR, sitting at my desk and received the thank you for booking through Hilton and two more emails stating I canceled. I called both Amex and Hilton and nothing, they said I canceled through the Hilton app. The reservation still shows on my Amex app haunting me because it was hundreds cheaper per night when I originally booked the room. I feel that maybe I booked a rate that Amex shouldn’t have been able to book?

We got walked at a Hyatt House in FL to a Hyatt Place. It wasn't as nice but they refunded the points paid for the room. We were only there for one night and it was close to the airport for an early flight. They called us a few hours before check-in to give us the option of Hyatt Place for free or refund.

Had a bad experience with Marriott in Burbank Cali, Front Dest was really rude and prejudice so I had to call Marriott and report the incident. They handled it appropriately.

📱No cards are on my radar right now. In fact I’m probably going cull a few. I’m spread a bit too thin for maximizing points. I can’t stand SW Airlines. I don’t do the 24 hour beforehand scramble to get a place in line to fight for a seat that I like. I will not be signing up for the free companion pass. I don’t really have a horror story. I’ve missed connections a couple of times, had luggage lost for a day or two, had flights get cancelled but nothing I couldn’t deal with. Perhaps I’ve been lucky.

@@AskSebby Yes - first thing in the morning, I wake up and go to the washroom and have lots of urine fall over me. There's more though - when I complained, they switched me a new room but that had insects. Then they switched me to another room where water pressure was almost non-existent. I complaint four times thereafter and they did nothing. There's been zero accountability from the hotel or Marriott (escalated right up to the CEO) for this ordeal nor any compensation. Can share all the details if needed.
