You may have screwed up by over refining your girl but what an awesome save. It helps so much to see others make a mistake and to see how they fix it. I made a huge booboo the other day. I dropped a loaded paint brush onto my girl’s face and it took four layers of gesso to erase the mistake so I could start over. There was no other way to come back from that except using the opaque gesso that I make. Love watching you create, love! 😊💜

Hi Lori!!! I am so sorry I am just seeing this!! All my personal, favorite journals are made from altered books like this one. But maybe for a baby keepsake and with lettering youd appreciate a cleaner surface to start! I'd probably go to my closest art pr craft store and lay my hands on one. If you're going to use any watercolors or water at ALL I'd go with watercolor paper. Otherwise I love smooth Bristol paper! Just pick out the cover style you like best and size you prefer working in! I think I will. I'm fairly new to playing with mixed media, but I've been taking an altered book class. Lots of fun! Have you tried clear gesso on top of the Mod Podge before painting over it? That might help with that plastic feeling when you try to paint on top of it.

Steel Phoenyx right on, the clear gesso is actually a great idea. I normally dont use it because I hate the texture of it!! Hahaha!
