So, Daisuke Ishiwatari is the series composer, character designer, and director. Guilty Gear Strive in particular is a love letter to the entire spectrum of the rock genre, each song custom made to fit the character it's made for. Also, every theme has lyrics performed usually by Naoki Hashimoto.

Smell of the Game is the main theme of Guilty Gear Strive. It's a fighting game series similar to Street Fighter and Tekken and just like those games, it has fantastic music. Each character has their own song in the game that are unique to them too. A few of my favorites are The Roar of the Spark (Ky Kiske theme), Alone Infection (Faust theme), and Armor Clad Faith (Potemkin theme). Hope you check them out!

If you want to react to more of this, cloud drop releases lyric videos that's accompanied by the character's portraits and gameplay. They're all in order by release date so if you started at the top, you will start from the oldest and end on the latest release. I'm glad you enjoyed a song outside of your usual genre! With Strive, expect an overall "heavy" rock sound, progressive structures, and weird genre blending!

Something to keep in mind is that the lyrics in Cloud Drop's videos aren't always accurate. Mirror of the World and Kiss of Death are two major ones that come to mind

The OST for Guilty Gear Strive feels like it must be such a huge undertaking. And I say that in present tense because we're still getting a trickle feed of new characters with their own themes just like this one. There's 28 characters in the game rn, 15 from the base game, 13 are DLC, 4 more confirmed on the way in the future, all of them have fully vocal themes with fitting music genres (mostly rock and metal, with some pop, punk and jazz in there too) and lyrics that tell their story, and believe me this series has a banger story. Perfect mix of campy anime bullshit and human relatability and social commentary. Other people have talked about it but yeah Daisuke Ishiwatari is the composer, character designer, story writer and overall creator of the series, this is pretty much his baby. He's not alone in the development but he's got a team that's faithful to his vision. The series takes tons of inspiration from music all over the world, but bands like Queen, Guns N Roses, Metallica and Led Zeppelin are probably the biggest inspirations. The series is full of nods to those bands and more, including names of characters (Sol Badguy, aka Fredrick Bulsara, both names are Queen references), characters looking like music artists (I-No looking like Sheena Ringo), their designs being homages to band names (Elphelt being a gun toting girl wearing a dress that looks like a bouquet of roses, Guns N Roses), names of attacks (Ky Kiskes Ride the Lightning), and even borrowed motifs (Potemkins Guilty Gear XX theme, titled Burly Heart, references the intro to Kashmir by Led Zeppelin 28 seconds in) They're all over the place, the list of references is endless. Hard to narrow down a short list of the must-hear Strive songs, honestly you should check them all out, but I think my favorites are: Symphony, The Gravity, The Town Inside Me, Requiem, and Let Me Carve Your Way. Edit: forgot to mention, but the vocalist you heard here was Naoki Hashimoto, and he's the lead male vocalist on all of the songs. Jamison Boaz was also on this, he did the "mankind knew that they cannot change society" part, and he also has some other backing vocal and talking roles in other songs. If you listen to The Town Inside Me or a handful of other songs, you'll hear the female singer Aisha, and there's one song that's sung by Molly Daisy, and it's called Extras, and you'll probably get a lot of recommendations for that one, I can vouch for that one it's really good.

Love me some Guilty Gear music! It can get pretty progressive/experimental, but does run the gamut pretty well. Here are some suggestions: More Traditional (easier to get into): - Play the Hero (Chipp Zanuff) - Hellfire (Leo Whitefang) - Love the Subhuman Self (Milia Rage) - Armor Clad Faith (Potemkin) More Experimental (harder to get into): - Let Me Carve Your Way (Zato=1) - Drift (Happy Chaos) - Alone Infection (Faust) - Necessary Discrepency (Ramenthal Valentine)
