My New Land Rover Discovery LR3

For years I've been obsessing over Land Rover's Discovery series and battling over the pros/cons of the models. LR3 was one for me! After lots of saving (and selling my 3-series BMW) I found a used 05 LR3 500miles away in Studio City CA.
After 2 weeks now IM IN LOVE! I am very please with my decision. I have lots of plans to fix and update little things and eventually turn it into a hard core adventure rambler!

Yes, I have a 2016 LR4, its the last body on frame truck before the unibody aluminum redesign.

Hey, Good luck with your Landy. I have a 2005 'Discovery 3' as they're called here in England. KZbin has helped me with plenty of tips, so maybe search for Discovery as well as LR3. FYI I've had to replace the electric park brake system and the air suspension compressor in the two years since buying, but it's such a great car to be in, I'm happy to pay the price!!

First thing Id do is to check the lower control arms, ball joints and tie rod ends im going to take a guess and say they are bad seeing how the previous owner took care of that LR3. Also I could look at Rock Auto.com for those parts alot cheaper than dealership prices.

how is the car handling after 1 year of ownership ? have you encountered any major issues / major repair costs? I'm also selling my bmw 3 series and i'm debating between a X5 BMW and an LR3 ... i would love the LR3 but i'm afraid of the poor reliability reviews :( ... at least with the BMW, i know what i'm getting ... any advice?

cosmin cosereata Hey there! The truck is doing great! Just crossed 141k miles and no complaints! Still gives you the feeling your driving something special every time you drive it (because you are). I’ll actually be doing a 1 year review video soon so stick around for that 😉👍. In answer to your next car choice, I would say it depends on if this is your daily or a weekday car. If it’s a daily go with the X5, better fuel and a little easier/cheaper to repair. But you could still totally rock it daily. The LR3 is probably the best older Land Rover you could buy. My Local LR repair shop calls the LR3 “Land Rover’s best kept secret”. I love this thing!

Side note, the biggest repair I had to make was the fuel pump, $150 on eBay & 2 hours of shop labor time. $350 total. 👍 easy as pie.

+Karim Alameddine Hey that's awesome! Rear locking dif is part of the HD package. All LR3s have central locking difs. Which is plenty in my opinion. As far as gas, on every premium car I've owned... 6 BMWs, MINI, 2 Infinitys, Rover, I've only used regular and NEVER noticed a difference. I'll put premium in sometimes if I'm feeling fancy 😂😉👍

I got an LR3, what position should the car be when its parked. the mechanic fixed the suspension but it says suspension fault and it is really low when parked over night. it rises when you start it... how do you know whats the position its supposed to be while parked. I also feel the compressor gets on for a long time.l I'm not sure the mechanic is well versed in this car! Any device we can buy to self diagnose?

+rKarim Alameddine Hey! I would call around to find a local shop that knows Rovers, worst case you go to a dealer.. So sounds to me like it's the level sensors which are common to go out. You can get them on eBay real cheap and there easy to install. Let me know

Hi I have a 2008 LR3 SE V8 depending on the mileage I'm with MY DAMN CHANNEL I would do maintenance first like a transmission flush, tranfer case flush front and rear axle gear flush, coolant flush ( check hoses) injector cleaning , oil change oil filter, air filter, cabin filter ect.... these are great trucks but if you don't keep up with them they will get expensive also I recommend if you can stay with OEM parts they are expensive ( look on web there are companies that sell OEM parts cheaper then dealership ) but in long run it will be a better choice. There is a UK company I use for parts check it out it's called POWERFULUK.COM they have nice bits if you wish to accessorize your LR3. Good luck have fun they are great trucks
