Calling a 285 kph (180 mph) car slow, is interesting. I think there are some issues with your engine or mine is just a 1:100000. Maybe try a dyno run for reference? I guess it’s just a perspective thing. Love that you picked such an unusual car.

As a fellow 3.0 owner, I’m looking forward to your build and subsequent engine choice. Easily overlooked on the 3.0 is confirming proper functioning of the intake manifold changeover valve which often fails in the high rev position and thus reduces your low end torque. Typical failure points are tears in the rubber diaphragms, the N156 solenoid mechanically failing, and worn out tabs that connect the vacuum actuator to the changeover valve. All of these failures will usually NOT result in misfires or check engine light. Keep up the good work!

Looks all very familiar as I am doing the same on an 03 3.0 B6 cab. Cat delete, SAI delete, Aircon delete, JHM 2.5 downpipes and a Milltek exhaust... quatro and trans swap from a what was a FWD CVT. The 3.0 is a solid power plant and very reliable and can be supercharged and there is a JHM 3.0 tune available. Fun stuff
@smrsocmoneyracing2552
@smrsocmoneyracing2552 2 жыл бұрын
The 3.0 is a good reliable motor. It makes good power out the box and revs well. Paired with a manual transmission, it can compete. It's only down side is the lack of aftermarket support. But, a creative person can find their way around that because many parts swap over to the 3.0 from the 2.8 and 2.7t. I'm digging this build man.

Subscribed. Another B8.5 owner here. Looking forward to the B6 build. Drivers mods are the best investment, although I am looking forward to hearing what you repower the B6 with. If the 3.0 can be swapped out with the 2.7t, that would be excellent knowledge to document.

Really excited to see this build progress! I hope your oil pump chain tensioner is good. Mine was really grooved and the tip was cracked. Also the cam chain tensioner shoes. Also, the are check valves under the valley pan. They’re expensive, but I think they’re worth it. My cooling system was soooo full of crud. I’d suggest draining the block if you decide to do a flush. You may have seen some stuff when doing the rear main in the block. I sure did!

If you were just getting into cars at 26 and we’re gonna get a b6, what tools would you need that you wouldn’t have from working on a f150 or civic. Also how difficult is it to work on Audi vs hondas
@FlinkFilms
@FlinkFilms Жыл бұрын
In my experience, Hondas are easier to work on, at least older civics, based on their simplicity. This particular b6, with the 3.0 is sometimes pretty darn frustrating to work on unfortunately. The 1.8t model is a bit easier since it’s not as crammed in there. Tools-wise you’ll want a set of triple-square sockets and Allen/torx sockets if you don’t have them yet. Another very helpful tool is the rosstech “hex v2” cable paired with vcds software (its free to download, but pc only) for scanning and diagnostics.

Get an E46 330ci, Miata, lots of cars better than a understeering Audi for the track. You never really see Audi on the race track for a reason, it's mostly BMW, Porsche, Miata, S2000
@VS666
@VS666 2 жыл бұрын
flink my man i can't help but try and steer you in the right direction. i know your a die hard audi man and you're not afraid of tearing into an engine but you absolutely have to reconsider a different platform. the juice is not worth the squeeze with this car. the amount of time, effort and MONEY that will be dumped into this thing will not be worth it. go with something more tried and true, simpler, and cheaper. i'm not going to make recommendations so people think i'm biased but there are so many better and cheaper options that will be so much less headache and easier to work on
@FlinkFilms
@FlinkFilms 2 жыл бұрын
Haha I appreciate the warning man. Honestly I’m not sure I’d even consider myself a die hard Audi guy, but I got the whole car for less than a grand so can’t really complain there 🤷‍♂️. Plus for this year all I have left to change is suspension and tires. So overall it’s costing me WAY less than my b8 has. Even if I were to 2.7 swap it, it would still cost less than what I have in the b8 😂. But I will agree with you this car sucks to work on. If it wasn’t for my desire for ice racing, and simply for the deal I got on it, I probably would have gone for a civic or something else K-powered. But I can’t COMPLETELY copy Gears and Gasoline. I am curious though, what would you have recommended?
@VS666
@VS666 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlinkFilms Either way I am excited and ready to watch the whole series. All wheel drive and manual is a very short list and pretty much all of them are going to be headaches but a rear wheel drive car while ice racing will teach you some really good car control. I would have recommended a 350z (HR) or 370z, C5 Vette, or any Miata. The problem is everything is so incredibly expensive right now, truly a bad time to buy anything worth a damn. Since you got the Audi for almost nothing even if you're into it for under 20k it should be a lot of fun building and learning. 19k worth of parts will go a long way!

@Long-nd8bq
@Long-nd8bq 2 жыл бұрын
not much more you can do with a 3.0 car. Stock it's faster than a 1.8T car, but the 1.8T can be tuned, big turbo swap, etc. More potential. My 1.8T B6 has 550cc injectors, test pipe, full exhaust, and a custom tune and it has 3500 RPM launch control, no lift shifting, etc. The 3.0 car was a little stronger from the factory but tuning yields only a few hp gain compared to tuning a turbo car. The 3.0 cars are good for 2.7T swaps.

@@Long-nd8bq you don’t say, i actually own a 2004 1.8t quattro, never thought about modding it, kept it stock since i bought it of someone with 95k now it got 108k. Only problem that i cant fix is an oil leak its not a big inconvenience but it is a problem. Like 2-3 drops a day.
