Can't believe PC case manufacturers finally discovered the hidden secret of the automotive industry: metallic paint. But seriously, why did it take this long? Everything in the modern landscape is monotone white/gray/black but that doesn't stop metallic paints of those colours from being noticeably unique when done right, especially if the sun hits it a little bit.

The first computer I built from scratch used a CoolerMaster Storm Series Trooper case. It had 13 5.25" bays, and a 4 SSD cage inside. I put a couple of drawers in it, one for extra cables and the other to hold software discs. Since it was a Storm Trooper, we called it The Emperor. It had its power light and a couple of lighted buttons, but otherwise, no lighting. I upgraded the video card to a Sapphire and it then had a blue LED. It's simple: the REAL Alpha doesn't need bling. Fully loaded it was nearly 80 pounds. Seriously, all those blinking lights are a distraction, and I prefer my PCs on the left where the glass side is and you can't see it anyway. And RGB headphone stands? Seriously?

I'm looking at 3 cases that will house 12-15 fans. The Raijintek ZOFOS ULTRA $240 has 12 x 120mm fans, Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 $170 has 15 x 120mm fans, and Cooler Master $300 has 15 x 120mm fans. I will add APNX C1 to my list. I wish they had a full size up to E-ATX with 15 fans as an option.

I'd still prefer the Fractal North builds for anti-RGB setup. It looks amazing with Noctua Chromaxes (with brown color kit). Black and dark brown creates a serious but elegant look. While on topic, I dont really think anti-RGB = no lighting at all. Even in builds like this, for example, a subtle solid color lighting would improve the general look by putting forward the components more. Especially on black parts with low lighting condition with a glass side panel. But I also cant stand moving/distracting light effects or changing/mixing colors of RGB builds in general.

Take a lesson from car painting, use a nice color and paint over it with a flip flop coating. That’s what APNX did! Consider the Chameleon paint from years ago. It looks green in some light, purple in others and blue in yet others.

"Who needs RGB" More like, who doesn't want rgb? RGB on RAM is detrimental to performance due to the additional traces and components required for the LEDs. This will increase power draw which will in turn increase heat and electrical noise which will both interfere with RAM operation, all while driving up cost to you.
@GS-xp5jq11 ай бұрын
Yep and brands know this. They realized that the average consumer isn't knowledgeable about computers and will pay more for things that look "cool" but are objectively worse per $. It's sad seeing what this industry/hobby has turned into as a long-time hardware enthusiast. Vote with your wallet, show brands that we want performance per $, not gimmicks per $.

I don't get the war against RGB. Isn't the point of RGB lighting is that it can be set into any color you want, or turned off completely if you don't want illumination? Having light when you don't need it is better than not having one at all. It's not like RGB equipment nowadays are that much expensive than non-RGB counterparts. To choose exclusively no RGB components is like to trying to find a car that specifically has no radio, just because you don't like listening to music while driving. People would probably be wondering why don't you buy a normal car, with radio, and then NOT turn it on?

Small problem, don't seem to be able to find the Gigabyte Aorus Stealth motherboard for sale in the UK. The Gigabyte website doesn't help, is insanely clunky like it was designed by a remnant of the Flash animation webpage era and basically doesn't work. The page for the Z690 Stealth doesn't even promote the main feature of having the sockets on the back. Or talk about which cases it's compatible with. Absolutely terrible design and they clearly haven't made the products widely available yet. Also it seems there's no standard name for 'motherboard with sockets on the back' so it's hard to find alternatives from other companies. Hopefully all that will change in the future, and such motherboards and cases will be readily available, not exclusive to overblown levels and easily searchable. I certainly like all the stuff I've seen about them this year, except the daft takes of 'But I wanna see my cables' and 'this doesn't help airflow' which both seem way off the mark of what it's for. Seems to me, it should be easier to cable the thing in the first place, and even neatly manage the cables. I haven't seen any of the engineers/designers of these motherboards being interviewed and stating, 'Oh yes, we did this so that airflow would improve.' so I'm not sure where people got the idea that's what it's for.
