This has been an effort of mine for a couple of years now. Advances in EQ technology have aided my attempts, in particular Eventide Split EQ. By separating transient and automating the tonality, creating 3 d features has got me rethinking everything, particularly predelay balances between two or more verbs. It's a really exciting process to be able to sign a mix with. Ymmv ✌️

Another great video. Every time I watch one of these videos I'm struck by the level of detail placed on every track in every mix. At least the great and well-mixed tracks have that detail. The cumulative effect is a great song, but under the hood there's a lot of thought and effort put in. Thanks!

This is an excellent trick! I've used multiple reverbs but not hard-panned. Was kind of chuckling though, as I can't understand the lyrics whatsoever. These modern singing styles can sure obscure the words pretty often. We slave over our lyrics and I want people to understand every syllable!

Hey Doc. I went to a trade school to learn music production 30 years ago, on tape - but with enough digital so that if it ever became affordable... I had a prof who predicted the entire studio would be a hand-held device! Anyway.... I went on to an illustrious career in construction, but now my kids want to record music. Fortunately, I still remember signal path and noise floor and Q and 3 to 1 mic placement. Your videos are a goldmine. You bring me up to date with digital strategies and tactics that the old masters couldn't do even if they wanted to. E.g.: why use 5 mics on a live snare when you can use five samples. This is foundational to me and I appreciate it very much. Please keep it up!

Good stuff. wondering where you got this idea from? Also i see you did a slight "abbey road" eq on the reverb effect...cutting lows and highs. I am usually a little more aggressive cutting the highs on reverb itself but it works great on this track. Very 80's stadium chant .
@BobbyHuff2 жыл бұрын

If you wanted to save some CPU space and still accomplish this trick, you could use the new CLA ecosphere for the first Reverb and mono delay. Then you would only need one more FX send for the second Reverb. Sounds great I'm going to go try this now.

@BobbyHuff Жыл бұрын
Hey Bobalouie! Look up my videos How the Pros compress a vocal and How the pros eq a Vocal. As far as tracking any vocalist I usually use an SM7 microphone and a Neve Mic Pre. Sometimes I’ll use a 47 or a 251 on vocals instead depending on the singer. The Universal Audio Unison plugins are VERY good to cut through as well if you don’t have a great mic pre. I also never use compression when cutting vocals as you can’t undo the compression once it’s cut that way. Thanks for watching the channel!
