For the past few years, I've been having one complaint regarding Pokémon GO that Niantic should address. Quality-of-life is very important when it comes to what the Pokémon GO Community wants. In this video, I will be discussing what I think Niantic should do to improve the game in a big way!

Pokémon Go is a 2016 augmented reality (AR) mobile game developed and published by Niantic in collaboration with The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices. It is credited with popularizing location-based and AR technology, promoting physical activity, and helping local businesses grow due to increased foot traffic. However, it attracted controversy for contributing to accidents and creating public nuisances. Various governments expressed concerns about security, and some countries regulate its use. By early 2019, the game had over a billion global downloads, grossing over $3 billion in revenue. The game also had over 147 million monthly active users as of May 2018.

Niantic is so stingy. The most annoying quote they use when they promote a paid ticket is when they say "and much more." More of what? Just tell us what's fully included with the paid ticket.

I get that on commdays most of the millions of players only play for ~3 hours, but they're forgetting about the other couple hundred thousand players who would grind in those extra hours

Also what does it matter to them? They're harvesting the location data, this is just more. I know for me, we don't go to sponsored areas and events and hit the same stops every time we play..so why not open it up

All these events come back to catering to higher population areas. 3 hours feels more fulfilling when there is more stops, more gyms, and more players. If the higher ups really play this game as much as they claim, they should be made to spend a few events in a rural town with around 10 stops and 2 or 3 gyms so they can get the experience outside that San Francisco bubble.

Yes I totally agree. Niantic are stingy and not only is “day” the wrong description for events but often so is “week” when the event only goes for 4 or 5 days.

6 hour Community Days also allowed for people to pick and choose hours as their schedule allows. Not everyone can clear 2-5 due to other obligations, but 11-5 could clear an hour or two earlier (or perhaps later). 6 hours also allows for people to avoid the hottest/sunniest hours since some are sensitive to the sun. 6 hours allowed for communities to get together to plan parties, luncheons, events, and other group building activities that aren't 100% PoGo, but at least get off the screen for a while and visit with others. 6 hours let people grind at their own pace. These "extra raid hours on Community Day" don't count. They are at Niantic's whim as to where and when they put the T4 egg with no guarantee they are anywhere near your locality. I'm not going to chase these things down after a day out and stay in one spot for 1/2 hour (which actually is the opposite of Niantic's "go explore" mantra, but I digress).

While I do agree that Niantic needs to work on their semantics, I think they should focus on the “increased x odds” and “if you are lucky you may x” and less on the nomenclature of the events themselves. But sure, “Community day” although being factually correct, in that THAT is the day the event will take place, it is a bit misleading when the duration of said event starts at the middle of the afternoon and ends at the tail end of the afternoon. Other than that I just think they should improve the quality of the “rewards” we get during paid special researches, regular razz berries and any poke balls that have red in them shouldn’t even be in the discussion. Unless it’s in a quote about how great it is they’re gone from the rewards. Permanently.

i wish that Niantic would do a "shadow raid hour/day" once a month where every gym spawns only the months 5* shadow raid for 1-3 hours on like the 3rd Saturday of the month (like how we get the raid hour every wednesday night anyway). I feel that would make it a lot easier to plan teams out for non-city areas and give better chances for people to grab that month's shadow 5* raid

I decent idea would be you had a “start” button that you can click to begin a 3hr countdown starting at 12am-11:59pm. That way you can decide when you want to play for 3hrs, if you have to work around a job or other plans you might have.

I thought about that too but it does kinda defeat the purpose. The idea of the window is to get everyone out at the same time, if you can pick your hours then you might not line up with others and they seem hellbent on forcing interaction.

Their reasoning for reducing Comm days from 6 hours to 3 hours was because their data collection indicated most players did not play for the entire 6 hour duration....which obviously led to Niantic's flawed interpretation and changes because of that data. It's unrealistic to expect players to walk around for 6 straight hours. Even if I was playing my favorite game sitting down I'd still need a break... doesn't mean I'm done playing for the day. 6 hour duration is just so much more convenient. If you only want/plan to play for an hour or two, 6 hours allows your schedule and the event period to better align. Niantic took away mid event lunch breaks lol.

I tend to agree with what you’re saying. These events should be a little longer in one way or another. Both primal Kyogre and Groudon raid days i was only out with the community for an hour and a half. If we had 5 hours or more I would’ve taken a break and gotten back at at. Or others would have the ability to flexibly schedule raiding time around life. Another suggestion I’d make is to expand the matching radius for raid lobbies through Campfire. I’m a newer player with a lot of friends who send raid invites outside of campfire but they are all in my region. I know I could go to pokegenie or Discord or another place for raid groups but the point still remains as Niantic should be making an effort to be a leader in this space

On both the Kyogre day and the Groudon day, I was supposed to have to be in work at 5p, but on both days, I was called in early and had to be in at 2p. Granted, I live in NY, and we got hit with all that snow on Groudon day, but I was going to have access to at least a couple on in person raids (after doing all of the remotes and not getting any shinies or better than 14/15/12)

Would love to see increased duration, but I also think we can’t be so literal about the word “day”. Yeah, Christmas Day is the whole day, but garbage day is certainly not - you just have to remember that’s the day to take out the trash (or rather, early morning). The raid days are the days the events occur. I do wish they were the whole day, though.

My complaint is shadow raids. In my area there arent many pokemon go players so never get to do legendary shadow raids. Wish they determine the difficulty of legendary pokemon by the amount of trainers actually raid in certain locations, or another mechanic that allows trainers to remote raid just once for legendary shadow pokemon

Yep, my favorite events are the Timed Research days, where you get that whole string of tasks to do. We just had one not that long ago, but now I forgot what it was. xD The other Limited Research Days, I can normally get 3 poke stops in my neighborhood, but have to push out further to get anymore. It's basically 3 stops per mile where I live. It just promotes getting in the car and driving. Which is fine if you want to spend the gas money, but not why I play.

Honestly, if niantic really wanted people playing outside for longer, they should just make community and raid days longer, and have more benefits for actively playing. It's incredibly hypocritical for them to push for playing outside while also having their most popular global events be only 3 hours 2-4 times per month If these events were longer, casual players can have more downtime while not having to worry about missing out, people working on weekends can hopefully get some time in, and hardcore players just get to play for longer. It's literally a win for every player and for niantic's motto It would also be cool if research during community days gave multiple rewards. For example, every research is usually the "catch 3 pokemon" one. You'd get a guarantee encounter with the featured pokemon + an item reward (5 great balls, 3 ultra balls, 3 pinapp, or 1 gold razz). I see no reason why niantic couldn't make a single research give multiple rewards on completion. It would also push players to actively walk around and find new pokestops since research would be the best way of finding a hundo (since every research would have a guarantee encounter with the featured pokemon)

We used to have a long train of cars for wafu raiding back in the day (having spent the entire week leading up to coordinating our routes). Now, even with Discord or Campfire, I’m lucky to get enough people together to get 10 raids done within the 3 hours.

Not only that the longer community days would allow people in rainy countries like myself to maybe pick and choose an hour or two here and there in order to avoid the rain where possible. Litten community day I had to walk around a forest with complete waterproofs and a golf umbrella because the rain was coming down sideways and it was the only way to be able to play for those of us who don't have a car and even with a car the best you can get is a carpark with a clusterspawn of around 6 pokemon. The last 5/6 community days have been heavy rain and it's rural so there's only a few places we can go...it doesn't feel like Niantic care/notice anyone outside of sunny dry California conditions. And so what if others get even more hours to go hunt, good for them as it doesn't take anything away from me.

depends on the event for me - community days I'm usually done with my personal shiny hunt within 20 min, and bored by an hour and a half sandshrew day was the best one since the alolan variant had a different typing so we had a choice on where to focus - research days, we only have enough stops here for a 2 hour maximum grind if you spin every stop once - some of the tasks are impossible as well (battle in a gym, hard to do when literally every gym is your teams colour, use effective charges, battles over before you get one out, effective or not) - hatch days are pointless for me to even try and participate in due to mobility issues, and the shiny rates are never worth almost killing myself over with effort (plus every free egg slot appears to currently be filled by a 10k egg - whats with that?) - raid days I'll burn the free passes if there are any, but finding groups is a pain cos no one here who plays communicates publically, and there's too many subgroups

I couldn't raid Groudon at all because of work (and of course, I get out of work at 5 PM...right when the raids end). It would definitely be great if they extended "day" event hours. It would probably bring more people to play too.

I believe when it comes to raid days it would be a heck of a lifesaver to have something like Kyogre one week then groudon the next, but include a day where both are going on at the same time. They need to lighten up on the pay to win we’re going through it already and just want a fun game to play😭

I actually do agree that 3 hour Community Days and Raid Days have been a very short time spam for players can cause FOMO as a missed opportunity. Just make Community Days and Raid Days from 9am-6pm with the option to grab any 3 hour time spots that players are available to play

Unfortunately it seems Niantic would rather hammer thier philosophy than make money. Yes if you leverage time zones and discord you can make them day events but without third party apps and more remote raid passes even that has limits. Honestly idk what they are doing anymore. It seems they think everyone lives in eternal summer with a large population and that's not the case. It's incredibly unbalanced based on where you live and ironically that's the total opposite of what a mobile game us suppose to offer....a mobile game should be playable anywhere and pokemon go simply isn't. They need to get up to speed before more layoffs imo

100% Going back and watching Trnr Tips vids from 5-7 years ago and every 5 10 vids it mentions there should be better access for rural players....and here we are 7 years later and it's still exactly the same. Why? Half the time the portals are in the game in Ingress they just need to relax the 1 per s2 cell rule AND increase spawns if there are less than x stops in a wider group of cells. Bonus points for making more spawns in parks/more stops added to parks.

I have to add one thing about those raid days. The moment people run out of 5 free raid passes to make a lobby for remote players is much harder. For example Groundon Raid Day. The first hour was insane good I was able to make an instant in-person raid and invite players across the globe and to reflect the numbers during that first hour 1,800+ players were waiting. After those passes ran out a completely different picture was happening and there were about 2100 lobbies before mine. So I don't see a reason why to extend a longer raid day unless they make remote raiding back to the previous state because I did buy a ticket and it was a pain in the ass for me to spend all raid passes.

I dont agree with these tbh. Community days lasting 6 hours instead of 3 would be stupid, especially for better gym defenders/ pokemon in general *cough cough chansey cough*. Same thing goes with Raid Days, I played all the raid days and got done with them in less then a hour except the primals. Sure the name "day" is more than what it is but that is everywhere is it not?? Hell even in highschool we have a project presentation day even though it only lasts about 30 minutes. The only reason I see them making both events longer is if everyone goes in lockdown again.

My recent "complaint" was that primal Groudon raid day lasted much less than Kyogre's. I remember the Sunday before I was seeing all raids be primal Kyogre's all over even past 8 pm. Meanwhile, Groudon's were over little past 5 pm. I was able to get more than enough primal energy, but that wasn't the case for my wife cause she had class at that time (yes, she studies on Saturdays), so that sucked imo.

Im going to miss shadow Mewtwo raid day because I'm in Barbados for the week, don't know any players here, and it is WAY too hot to be outside during the day. Luckily I caught a 96% last time they were available

Absolutely agreed!! I work in a restaurant, so on Saturdays I'm at work from 1130am to about 9pm. When there's a raid "day" between 2 and 5, it makes it that much harder for me to participate. I've also been annoyed by their use of the phrase "raid day" when it's only 3 hours. I've said I think "raid block" would be better since its only a 3 hour block of time

I like the idea of longer raid days and I don't. The shorter time span is great in terms of concentrating when people are going to show up so it's more likely you have a large group. Also bad, as you said, for those that work, along with other family plans that may interfere. I do wish they would give more frequent discounts (even if just on the web store) for greater amounts of remote raid tickets on community days.

Valid points but niantic can only do so much with very limited staff. And the staff they do have sometimes aren't the most competent. So many wish for various changes in this game but any big positive changes likely won't happen for several months if at all or until they can get better/more staff.

Now the bubbles burst and companies are panicking/watching others do it and so in herd mentality they are copying each other to be seen as "taking action" and boost revenue again. Short term profits for long term destabilization...really bad move unless they were getting rid of all the bad people in the company....but these things usually just end up as whoever is friends with the managers stay...not the best workers.

They should consider making remote raid limits for raid "days" scaled depending on the Pokemon being featured. We had a freak snowstorm this weekend in upstate NY and during the so called raid "day" hours the road conditions were extremely hazardous and made going out to raid basically unsafe. With only having 20 remote raids available, you burn through them very quickly and only get to experience like an hour to an hour and a half of the raid "day". Or if they don't want to adjust the limits, then adjust the hours to 6 like Count suggested. That would have allowed people to get out and experience the raids in person before the weather got too bad. I realize this is a very specific example, but I know it effected a lot of people in my community.

The problem that Niantic either fails to realize or refuses to acknowledge when it comes to these one-day "community" events, is that in-person PoGO communities aren't what they used to be back in 2016/2017. Many of those initial players have quit, so smaller communities took a hit that we haven't been able to recover from, where it's harder to pull ourselves together to meet up for multiplayer play. Urban city communities probably were able to keep senses of togetherness better due to having more players in general, and Niantic seemingly continues to use those kinds of communities as case studies for *every* player. Longer "community" events will certainly help smaller communities made up of players with other obligations in their lives to be able to play an event as they can.

I haven't spent real money on the game since the remote nerf. Granted, that wasn't the first betrayal. The feature that roped me back in was stationary incense. I miss you stationary incense. You were truly awesome. Nerfing the time duration of the events was just the cherry on top. I'll keep playing, and not spending money, and that's okay.

Don't enjoy raid days at all, except for Pokedex completion. I play almost everyday since 2016 and I care about high IVs and candies to some extent, but focusing on raiding is just a massive money requirement. This should be kept in mind for people who enjoy playing, but not in the 'spending lots of money' way. I still buy tickets for big events and when I see other things that interest me, but I will not spend money every week just to grind some raids.

I want to see unlimited special trades on Raid days. Make the unlimited trades work on only the raided Pokemon caught within a half hour and within 5k. That would encourage people to raid together. I do agree with making the events longer, or a selectable timeframe so people can work around their schedules.

I think it will be nice to have a longer span for all these events, that way PoGo can fit in my schedule, instead of having to schedule everything around it. These days I mainly just do the free content, but I was spending a lot more $$$ when they had longer periods for these events. Just because it was so convenient, and it made me happy to be able to plan my weekends so easily!

a day should be 24hrs. How about people who work night shifts? Also, even for day shift workers... it would be very convenient to play 30min-1hr before your work starts, play for an hour during lunch... and then hard-grind after shift. It's too stressful to grind for 3hrs straight. Making Community Day, or Raid Day run for 24hrs, is a very good quality of life change for the game. Also, Saturdays and Sundays are usually the only personal day anyone who has a 9-5 life has for the whole week. People usually have tons of personal stuff scheduled on weekends. So making the event days 24hrs would be a lot appreciated in terms of quality of life.

I really don't understand the limit on remote raid passes people can buy. if there was no limit on the passes more people could do raids and Niantic would get more money. People from rural areas might be able to do more raids too. It kinda feels like Niantic is hurting itself when they put the limit on remote raid passes.

Niantic should have a ticket available in the shop for future community days or even raid days, the ticket will extend the event hours from the usual 3 hours to the complete 6 hours. Enamorus raids were poorly executed and planned. They were restricted to a few of the elite raid gyms (not even all of them!) & were mostly done while people were at school or work. I understand it was Valentine’s Day but they could have made it easier and by concentrating them to genealogy after work hours and having them in more elite raid gyms

I got an even better idea than flatout increasing durations to 5h: As compensation; niantic can limit the raids you CAN partixipate in , to fix it to about as many as you could manage in 3h + like 5 maybe. But with this measure you could prevent people from maxing out their accounts WHILE having more people enjoying the game casually

Laying off, 230 employees did nothing for Niantic. Back in 2023. It made the experience even worse. Shino tour players who went to LA. Had a horrible experience? Chalk it up to that.

“Bringing the game back to pre-pandemic levels”. Sure, I can agree with that…except Niantic is picking and choosing what they want to bring back to those levels. Are store prices going to go back to those levels? Nope. Are event functionalities going back to pre pandemic levels? Nope. Is Niantic’s revenue going back to pre pandemic levels? YEP. lol.

I don't dislike them at all for being "complaining" he's right, hes 100% right. People are quick to call people "toxic fans" but as Henry Cavil put it, we are the loyal fans, we are the ones that care the most and should therefore be listened to for the health of the game as we are the ones most likely to understand it AND it's flaws. What really grinds my gears is how I didn't play from 2020 and recently picked it back up and started to watch TrnrTips vids from the very start again and....the game is exactly the same. Like all the main features were in the game in his videos 5 years ago. The only new addition was..routes... The other big problem is the same glitches/lack of care/attention is still prevalent with the same circles that don't line up with catching a lot of pokemon, some pokemon so far away you literally can't hit them with a curveball, some circles that you hit within the circle and they just bounce through the pokemon and too few pokestops for rural players/parks. Increasing the amount of stops allowed in parks would go a huge way for rural players, like put a cluster of 3 at the biggest cellular activity spot and maybe in the corners to give a reason to walk about.

@@justvincenturb I go out and play when I can I live in the middle of no where I’ve gotta drive 30-45 mins to join a group for a raid day this allows me to still play and enjoy and when I get off work late at night I can still spend a few hours raiding with friends who are up and about cross the country and be able hint shinies

I agree with a couple of these. I definitely have missed out on raid days because my schedule wasn’t compatible, like the most recent Primal Groudon, but the rest really just seem like you want to play Pokemon Go from home.

I disagree & I think you’re nitpicking and complaining over something for the sake of complaining over something. It’s appropriate to call an event “X DAY” like, when an NBA team plays, you say “ITS GAME DAY” but the game is from 7pm-10pm. What do you prefer Niantic call it? RAID SESSION? RAID AFTERNOON? I mean at that point it’s really giving off vibes like you would just complain about anything and everything lol. My perspective is despite in person being only 3 hours, they increased remotes to 20. That means you could have spent a couple hours the night before to do all 20, plus it resets on midnight of Raid Day where you can do another 20. Combine that with 3 concentrated hours of in person raid days… it’s hard to complain. I’m happy that Niantic gave us so much during the month of March. Also, FWIW, Kyogre was extended 2 more hours last weekend too.

I think this is the first time I kind of disagree with you. I will state I do wish events were more than 3 hours sometimes. But as a former collegiate athlete I’ve played sports my whole life. All week we talk about “game day” it doesn’t mean our game is going to be all day it’s just highlighting it is the day of something special.

I see what you mean, but by that logic, Tuesday spotlight hour should just be spotlight day and Wednesday raid hour should be Raid Day.
