I also pick very hard to get good tone. Do you intonate your guitars a little more flat to compensate for heavy picking going sharp?

Wow! What a killer tone. I´m currently chasing a petrucci type sound (2000-2004) using the AMT R1 Preamp in the FX loop of a Marshall Valvestate xD Honestly just your Friedman by itself gets you there soo close I think. Do you have the same experience? I´m kind of torn now if I should get a Friedman or stick to the AMT route. Greetings and...stick to that sound, its awesome^^

Thanks! I have no experience of the AMT Preamp but the Friedman is great and I have no plans to remove it from my board :-)

So none of these are in an "FX loop"? Its all placed in a chain in front of amp, i.e. it plugs straight into an amp. I don't know if i am missing this...

Thanks! Not really. I really like my tone / sound now. I’d probably use this setup if we’d be as big as Metallica and could afford to travel with lots of gear. And Metallica uses Kemper’s nowadays and not real tube amps anymore. ’Cos you know; why bother if you can get the sound you’re looking for from a rig that fits in your backpack 😊

Thanks! This is old video / board but most likely the same what I have nowadays: tuner - whammy - wah - phaser - od - chorus - flanger - preamp (sometimes I have cho & fla after the preamp so could be that also and sometimes just fla ) - boost - gate - dly

Would you use this same setup with an amp instead of the BE-OD? I also have a CE-5 but it taps out if I put in the loop of my amp :(

Yes and I actually used this when I played in Shining. I used a clean sound from the amp (usually Marshall JCM2000 TSL or DSL or JCM800 2203) and then my OD / Distorted sound was the BE-OD and boosted with SD-1 or MXR GT-OD 👌.

Yeah! And I’ve dialled the trimpot inside the BE-OD lower ’cos it was way too gainy 😊👌

No amp. As I explain in the video the signal goes from the board to Neunaber Iconoclast speaker emulator and from there to mixer / FOH. Nowadays I have the Iconoclast on my board so my whole rig is just the pedalboard 👌👍

I’ve used the MXR from time to time. It has a switch inside that you can toggle between ZW-44 and GT-OD modes and I usually have it on the Zakk Wylde so it’s basically MXR’s version of SD-1 😎👌.
