@Scolee you need to look past that tub(your abusive past) and make sure that the the fish it’s self (you) is doing ok. As you can see the tubs keep increasing in size but you’re afraid that just because it’s another tub it’s going to be horrible and hurt you but as you can see you are doing ok and you being ok is all that matters. Using those wired and somewhat dark comparisons are going to hurt you but all you need to think about is how you are ok and that all that matters is that you are here and someday you’ll move away from those tubs and be in the pond
Mr Fish

@Scolee the fish is fine and healthy but you are just assuming because it’s in a tub, it is suffering

@Scolee Im sorry that you were put through that horrible shit but you just have to look at the fish (you) and make sure that’s is physically fine and that the tub (you’re abusive past) is the least of our concern.

@Neo-Filthy Frank I assume so. All it would take is a tripod to hold the camera while he does his thing, but as he might not have one, he has to hold the camera instead. I could be wrong and he just doesn't like using tripods, didn't have the proper space to set it up, or is just camera shy and didn't want to show the process. Who's to say? Fun to wonder nonetheless.

Excellent new tank! I'm glad he has more room now. Suggestion? Gar love to hang out under tilted logs (I grew up in FL and saw them a lot too)-- how about putting a big branch in his tank? Something nice and thick that'll give him a little shadow; he'll feel a lot more secure. Most predatory critters like Alligator Gar are happiest when they can lurk in cover. It'll look pretty nice too!

you can use black diamond blasting sand as a substrate, it’s much cheaper and chemically inert and ppl have been using it for years and no one has seen any negative effects, it’s about $8 per 50lbs, you can find it at tractor supply co. make sure you rinse it heavily in a separate 5 gallon bucket in 10lb increments until the water is clear👍✌️

You should put fish tank underwater pictures in the tank so they're not staring at blue walls ( nothing ) all day. It will make the small tank look bigger to see underwater scenes and give them something to look at. Happy fish live longer.

I knew a dude growing up who had a huge pet Gar. It was around 8-9ft long and ate expired chickens from the grocery store. He kept it in a huge fishing pond he had in the back he kept stocked with bass and some other kinds of game fish. That monster was bigger than the kayaks we were paddling around in. I think it's name was Tool, after the band.

How are the ponds doing? I’m unfamiliar with the terminology, but I assume you can’t just dump a bunch of fish into what is basically a large puddle. What has to be happening in the pond to turn it into a micro-environment that can sustain the fish? Also, are you going to move the turtles?

they look scary but aren't aggressive toward people. I grew up near a creek I was never afraid of these but one time a few weeks after a tornado we walked a big stretch to see the damage and while in the middle of this wide 5 foot deep creek a gar swam right by me and this thing had to be at LEAST 6 feet long. biggest I've seen in my life. it scared me because I thought it was an actual gator and I was done for if it were. we assume it came in through the river a few miles up as we've seen massive river fish end up in this shallow creek after storms all the time

Should’ve drained the water when it was really cloudy especially with sand cause it can mess with the filter. Also it would be best if you created a small overflow system to skim the surface, it’ll make it so much clearer. I’ll link a cheap design I like to use.

I’m planning to get a gar in my 220 gallons community royal plecos tank, has anyone have any experiences with keeping plecos with gar? Is it possible to feed a gar Hikari Carnivour pellets? Also The set up for my tank is biotope which doesn’t include much plants, does gar require heavily planted tanks? Thank you!
Jame And The Giant Peach
Jame And The Giant Peach 10 ай бұрын
...of course every fish is an individual, but rule of thumb with gar is like a real alligator, it will usually try to eat any fish that it feels is reasonable size for it to take down, so it would have to be a certain deal smaller than the pleco at all times, but in that case, plecos may attack the gar if it is reasonably smaller than they are, for territory....so.....
