One of the things I always think about with Olimar is that one of the components he is happiest to find in the first game is his ship's massage machine. It doesn't help him get off the planet - you don't even need to get it to beat the game - but if you do find it Olimar is over the moon because he's been running around for days by that point and his back is killing him. Just a wonderful humanizing moment of how important a small creature comfort can be to someone. Stuff like that is the reason why I care about Olimar and him getting off the planet.

I do think it's a shame they decided to go the collectathon route. Like Kyle said, idk if it's a good thing that there's more items to collect than all the games combined. I'm 5 or so hours in and I find the areas kinda void of life? The enemies are so scarce and you hardly go against any deadly enemies. The ice Pikmin make every encounter pointless because all you do is freeze the enemy and then send your dog in and boom, enemy is practically dead at that point. For a game where you travel to a distant, hostile, foreign planet, it really doesn't feel like it anymore. In the earlier Pikmin games every bulborb encounter was a threat. There was a sense of danger everywhere. Now I'm just breezing through without a care in the world really.

Yeah, the reason "Kyle, you're thinking about this too much" doesn't work here is because this is the fourth game in a franchise that did not use to do this. The planet was pretty believable in Pikmin 1, no unexplained underground aquariums or houses. Still, I can't wait to get paid so I can finally buy this game and most likely love it lol.

@@Xbob42 it honestly might just not be for you. I jumped straight in and loved it from the get-go. I missed Pikmin 3 and was fiending for it before 4 came out. What I haven’t seen reviewers mention is that it IS a real Nintendo game lol. It has Nintendo charm and runs perfectly. QoL is perfect and it feels like they let this one cook for sooo long. I genuinely wish I was more struck by the ff 16 demo. I had fomo when it came out but the demo did nothing for me, So I get you .

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is neither too soon nor too similar, it's just on time and more different than it seems. Putting together the redone visuals, the announced modes, MultiVersus' comatose state, and the announcement that large swathes of character movesets were outright remade, this isn't just a cashgrab sequel, it's a finished version of the first game! Those five points might be comin' at you faster than you think.

As an enormous fan of the Pikmin series I completely agree with every point made in this video. Ice Pikmin are interesting in gameplay but absolute ass in design. Also fun fact you can't exceed 100 Pikmin even in the caves, it starts telling you that when you get to the cap. It's why I started taking like 80 Pikmin into caves instead of a full squad in case there were wild Pikmin.

I like the NPCs. They all look weird and it's neat to see your base gradually build up, an interesting contrast from the emphasis on isolation the earlier titles had. There's a good bit of worldbuilding around them, like how Shepherd is from a long line of captains (you can read their diaries) and how many castaways just have random jobs like school teacher or stylist. Plus, Collin looks like a nutcracker so I love him.

After playing through the game, I pretty much agree with all of these (in some way). When it comes down to it, I think the people making the game wanted to work Pikmin from every possible angle ("...and it will have overworld maps, and caves, and night missions, and side missions, and mission mode from the older games will be be integrated into the campaign, and multiplayer will be integrated into the campaign, and upgrades, and..."), but at some point they lost sight of the fact that part of Pikmin's charm is its simplicity. I'm not saying Pikmin 4 is bad by any means (I'm still just happy it exists), but it was just a LOT of "content" that sometimes was more "filler" and less "killer."

the only new character I really like is the doctor because he's really weird and keeps trying to experiment on creatures and his coworkers. Pikmin 2 and 3's casts were better though. They should've made night expeditions an optional feature that occurs if you don't leave the planet at sunset. Then it could be extremely difficult, giving new players a reason to want to leave and veterans a new challenge that fits naturally into the gameplay.

I can't speak for everyone, but personally I know that if I had more than 500 pikmin, each of their deaths would be slightly less impactful. As a compromise I could see a pikmin game where you control 15 different captains each w 100, and like, actually flesh them out as characters.

I was a big fan of Kyle's back at GT. I stopped paying attention after he stopped doing the GT time stuff at EA . I also gave up and left when kyle was making a video about trying to get a body like link. The final Bosman is and will always be one of my favorite shows. I wish this was more like The final Bosman but Kyle has improved this show and it is better now than what I saw here a year or two ago. Kyle is funny and if you've never seen The final Bosman I implore you to go check it out!

Kyle is definitely the angriest, most unfair game critic there is. And that's why we love him. Seriously though, I've only played Pikmin 1 and 2, but I think I perfectly understand the points. In Pikmin 2 pretty much everything they added was useless and simply complicated the simple and effective formula of the first one. If you add another type of Pikmin, its function needs to be so obvious and universal that the player wonders how comes it wasn't already present from the start. Also, Nintendo sequels usually don't just add a bit of content, but instead rethink the whole formula to stay relevant and surprising. So the "sea of Pikmins" actually makes a lot of sense. 😲
