Our story is so similar, and I'm forever grateful that I found this channel because you keep me motivated. As a 38-year-old mother and wife, it is nice to see someone living a semi-normal family life instead of constantly going on organic retreats in Bali and staying skinny while eating fresh coconut and nut-acai bowls every day. Potatoes work! The 50/50 plates WORKS. The Starch Solution is an ideal way of eating. And I agree with you on this: adventures and experiences always trump things. Keep it up, woman!

Hi! 14 year vegan Mom here I’m unsure why your videos showed up in my feed about a week ago, but I have sat and watched them all. And while dr mcdougall isn’t new to me, nor this information, I still sat and watched. I can tell you this. I’ve been vegan before there was any content or real books about vegan recipes, over the years this community has had so much confusion and misinformation. There’s been some good ones who have come and gone, (and there are still some good ones) you have so much grace, and you convey your message so beautifully and well informed from your perception and experience. You are a refreshing welcome change to this community and I stop watching vegan content years ago. Don’t stop you natural beauty. This community needs you.

I was pescatarian for 3 years and loving it, but I joined the eat your veggies challenge with you & High Carb Hannah (started it before the official first day) and ditched the fish. Since then, I'm down 15 pounds and I'm continuing to follow the Starch Solution way. I have a lot of weight to lose, but I'm taking it one day at a time. I've watched Hannah for a few years and adore her, but for some reason, you were the one I was able to connect with and actually decide to do this. Thank you Kiki for the continued motivation & inspiration 💞

I started WFPB two years ago and shed 140 pounds to far. It's taking time but I'm so happy I'm in a healthy weight range right now and have such an improved quality of life. Over the next few months I'll hopefully lose the last 20-25 pounds and your videos are so helpful in my journey. X

Oh just what I needed today, I’m on the 3/4 week slump and although I’ve lost 13lbs in the last 5/6 weeks, I’ve had a few slip ups with meals not being 100% perfect and was starting to panic, I love the bit you say about your on a walk, a journey. I’m also going away to see family in a week and it’s my birthday too so I know I will eat naughty things, and family already struggle to accommodate just vegan food, let alone a more complicated diet... but it’ll be fine, I’ll do what I can and enjoy it all! Thanks for your inspiration Kiki! My weight loss is all because I was recommended to follow you, still got about 60lbs to go though!!

I have been struggling for years with GI upset and general malaise. I know it’s diet related, but even at the recommendation of dietitians, still haven’t found a cure. I’ve been considering this diet for a while and thanks to the simplicity of your videos and recipes, decided to try it. Currently feeling better than I’ve felt in years! I agree with other commenters that this community needs you. Thank you!

When loss your weight did your skin bounce back, did you have to have surgery ? I lost 40 pounds because of illness in 5 month. My skin on my triceps is a bit loose. But I've firmed up everywhere else pretty nicely. Thanks !

Next to your mama😂 I have 6 daughters (3 in Colorado ,3 here in NC at the beach with me)and I'm constantly talking about "kiki" I have been plant based almost 10 years !! I am literally obsessed with your videos. You make it look so easy! I lost 70lbs on Keto but my numbers were horrible. I switched to plant based the beginning if this year and have gained 15lbs. I am trying to lose another 60lbs and I know this is the best way but im having a hard time keeping it up. I watch u for inspiration. Your awesome. Now to kick this sweet tooth I have acquired.........💝💝💝💝

Fantastic plant-based testimony, Kiki! Every time you do one of these, I get a little more out of it. Your channel is like one long playlist that I watch over and over! the one thing I wish is that you could get your husband to come and make a video for us guys about what his transition was like! When you first went WFPB did you have cravings for "junk" foods? If so, how did you deal with them and how long did they last? Everyone says that what you eat today, you will crave tomorrow. Still waiting to crave broccoli...lol ?

Ocean Mermaid good question! I also wonder how long it takes people's taste buds to adapt to eating this way. I really need to hear how long it took, if they struggled, and basically a pep talk to hang in there that this food will taste amazing one day. There are so many videos of people eating a salad or a big bowl of beans and saying how amazing it taste but did it taste that way as soon as they started eating that way or did it take a while? It's like I'm almost there because I do love a lot of these foods but I can't quite make a total transition because I'm missing something. Maybe flavor or texture. Not sure.

It’s true, it takes a while to crave those healthy foods. I think it’s also mental and physical. When you’re feeling better about what you’re eating and feeling better about how you feel and look physically it’s motivating to keep going. I do go through spurts of loving salad and then it won’t sound good for a few days or I change up what’s in the salad. Just keep going!

This is so funny because I was craving broccoli today 😂😂 I’ve been vegan for 3 years and THIS YEAR I stopped craving vegan junk. I tried to go WFPB prior but I couldn’t. I still ate a vegan standard American diet. Now I rarely eat any junk and my body craves all the veggies and fruits! I’m also down 15 lbs since this change. However, everyone is different!! & they say it takes 21 days of doing something to make it a permanent change. Good luck!!

Thank you! I am currently on this journey, down 30 pounds but still have quite a few to go. I love hearing about your journey, it’s so inspiring. I have made lots of your recipes and my family and I all love them. We love your refried beans, cheese sauce, masa cakes, tomatoes Fritos and lots more. Thank you for sharing all this. My husband has already hit his goal weight and has been able to go off his cholesterol meds.

Kiki, I’ve been following you and all your tips for one month now 💪🏼. I’ve watched the MD videos you’ve recommended, listening to Dr. McDougall’s Maximum Weight Loss book. I can relate to so many of the things you just mentioned. I use to think that I ate incredibly healthy but my diet did include nuts and seeds and avocado and especially olive oil for cooking. I could exercise an incredible amount including 300 miles a month of Mountain biking, two days a week of strength training and two days a week of long hikes and never lose a pound! It was so frustrating. Since I have adopted this diet I have lost a total of 8 pounds after the first month. Happy to have something working & feel great!! You emulate health!! Thank you for all that you do. 😘

Wow! I can relate so much! I also gained a lot after my second child. After my 1st child I got fit and was great. But after my second has been such a struggle! And she’s SIX!!! This is so helpful

Ok this is lost what I needed,! Thank you so much! My cholesterol is super high and they put me on cholesterol medication. I can't take it, it makes me feel terrible. I'm going to start doing this Monday after I go shopping lol. Thank you!

Hey I’m a newbie here! I’ve been meal prepping today & I’m so grateful for your tips and that I’ve found you. One thing I’m not certain about is: Can you tell me how many grams of carbs and fats can you have per day on starch solution? Especially fats I’m confused about. I guess I won’t eat nuts for the beginning but some foods do have fats and I want to be mindful of it. Planning to get the book!

Since doing your vege challenge (and continuing to eat a 50/50 plate) I've lost over 11 lbs, and have more to go. But best of all I feel less tired, have more energy, better skin and better periods. Thank you so much for making these videos xx

Thanks for continuing to share your journey. I enjoy your videos! I wish it worked for me but I simply cannot lose. I'm still following the Starch Solution but I've started to make peace with the fact I cannot lose even tho I have about 45 lbs to lose. I'm going to focus on the health part instead and hope it helps.

I should add that from Dec-May I was down about 30lbs and 10 away from my goal weight. I have not been on the scale for awhile but I look and feel super fit. Dec-Mar were a big learning experience for me and I've since adapted more to this lifestyle. I plan to continue indefinitely. Looking forward to that cookbook and the "cheese" sauce was bomb!

1:44 I actually don’t even know if that’s true because I think making TOO many changes all at once causes people to burn out, binge, and give up, so incremental changes to start and get used to things before adding another is more sustainable tbf ❤

Dear Kiki, thank you for the valuable information. I have been watching your videos and I can’t tell you enough how great they are and how much they helped me and inspired me. I lost 13 lb in 7 weeks and I don’t feel deprived. I actually feel better then ever. My family doesn’t want to eat like I am but I am able to do it anyway because you make it so simple. I have 4 kids and they are really picky and unfortunately stuck in their standard American diet (SAD). So do you have any tips on making the transition easier for them? Thank you for the inspiration! Kiki, I am really struggling to follow McDougall's 50/50 plate. I'm eating really healthy food but the weight loss has stopped and I think that's because I don't eat enough veg. I just find starches irresistible and I fill the plate with lots of starch instead of 50/50. Any advice? Did you have the same problem?

I’m 4 months in happily plant-based and mostly oil free but lately I’ve noticed a lot of hair loss, 20 gray hairs whereas I normally have only 1 or 2 (I’m 43, so maybe it’s just my age but it’s weird that I suddenly have so many after going vegan). I’ve always been a work out lover and in June I developed a really bad shoulder impingement that did not go away after six weeks so I had to get a Cortizone shot and Physical Therapy. Again, I know these things can happen but it is a weird coincidence that it happened shortly after I changed my diet. Also, my period was five days late for the first time in ever that I can remember. I am taking all the supplements, DHA, B 12, EPA, women’s multi daily, flaxseed oil.All from GMP vegan whole food sources .I am using all whole foods and only about 5% of the time I indulge in like Thai food or Trader Joe’s vegan tikka masala. Idk what the problem is. 😭

80% of weight loss comes from diet and the remaining 20% from exercise. A lot of people don't know that! Exercise is important, but exercise burns very little calories. 80% of it is all about what you put in your mouth!

I gained 50 during my first pregnancy ( at 26) but lost it all by 6 months post. Only gained 20-25 (I kept losing at the end) with my second (at 40), and she nursed longer than her brother, yet here I am nearly 5 years later with 25 extra pounds from my previous normal. Thank you for the inspiration and simplification of eating this way and staying true to it in the videos. I really look forward to your cookbook.

I started the Starch Solution back on 11/15. I have not bought the book but what I have learned on this channel. I am losing the weight, have regular bowl movements. The only side effect I am experiencing is having loud stinky farts. My question is, will it take time for my body to adjust to the new way of eating and that will go away or will this just have to be something I have to deal with? Does anyone else experience this?

I’ve lost 5 lbs in the last 5 weeks not being very strict. Just found out my thyroid is very low too so to lose weight at all in such a state is impressive. Had my first child in January and I initially lost some weight but it had stopped moving for months. Breastfeeding hasn’t impacted my weight. I’m not being strict at the moment as I am breastfeeding my little and don’t want to make drastic changes to his diet. He has a special need to gain weight. My husband also helps to cook but loves oil in his rice and we love fried plantain /patacones with hot chocolate on Sundays. (We just made the decision to prep separate rice.)Some of our usual and favorite recipes are still in experimentation to make them enjoyable but compatible with this lifestyle. It’s a work in progress though and I’m going to enjoy the journey and not stress myself out over it. 😊 Other news from my checkup is that my bp is down, calcium and iron are high normal...after years of being very low. Also, my reflux and my son’s is also much improved. I’ve really appreciated your content! I’ve been vegan in the past and have wanted to return to it healthfully...long story on that...had seen a few McDouggal videos after recommendation from lilykoi’s channel. Found your channel in my search for starch solution recipes and experiences. Had been following high carb Hannah for years but the info didn’t fully click to me until I found your channel. No disrespect to her at all! I wrote off he starch solution years ago when I browsed it’s recipe section. But the gf and soy free options you shared made me see it is possible to do in spite of my complicated food issues. The explanation of the fundamentals also helped. I bought the book and am reading when I can!Thank you again! Also yay for not being dependent on gritty, hard to digest protein powders!

I’m just starting the 50:50 whole foods, plants based lifestyle change today. Do you drink on occasion, or do you think this would hinder weight loss in the initial stages? Relatively new sub, but don’t think I recall hearing you talk about it in your vids. Congrats btw!!

Hi! I really want to live a plant based lifestyle & try the starch solution but every time I start I get an overgrowth of candidas that makes me super fatigued and memory fog etc.... I’m assuming because of the break down of starches into sugars? Any suggestions for working through this?? Thank you!!

I wouldn't consider weight lifting as extreme. Weight lifting is very beneficial for women. It helps increase your metabolism and bone density. It reshapes your body which can help people who've lost a lot of weight.

My question is, how dis you get your kids to transition to healthu eating? My 6 year old is picky eater and has trouble with some textures. And he also loves unhealthy snacking. Chips...buttery popcorn... etc. I have been able to incorporate hidden veggies into his meals but I need more kid-friendly healthy meal ideas and what to do for snacks.

Hi kiki. this month i have been looking into the plant based diet. Did you sometimes, in the beginning of your yourney, had slip ups? For me, i really noticed how good i felt, weight did not really drop much, but i felt good. But now i'm having diffuculty to get back on track. Just had family over and now its hard to get there again. Do you tips and did you experience it too?

Hi kiki I have been looking for a good time your videos and I love the way you eat I really want to do this kind of eating but I am so scared 😟 I had a gastric sleeve and my weight is going down but now I cannot go down from 155. I can not eat to much at the time so how will be they way I will eat if I follow plant base style? So confused 🤷‍♀️ not sure what to do!

A bit confused about your diet before. You said it was low carb high fat, but also standard american and that you ate pizza etc which is not a fair representation of a healthy low carb diet. Makes it hard to compare the two. Either way congrats on the success!
