Dr. Mis tells his personal story of losing his hearing and sight at an early age, and his fight to continue doing what he loves - to practice medicine - with the help of technology. Dr. Raymond Mis is a board certified gastroenterologist with a practice in Rhode Island. He has taught medicine at the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been chief of the gastroenterology department at Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick RI where he also practices. In 1998, Dr. Mis lost a significant amount of his hearing and in 2001 was declared legally blind. In 2002, with the help of new technology, he became the first visually impaired gastroenterologist to be accredited by the State of RI to perform procedures. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

It’s just so hard for me looking back and seeing all the stuff I went through, and how it was better. But I should look forward. There’s going to be good things happening.

I have been going to Dr Ray Mis since he opened his practice. Although he has garnered many well deserved accolades, the one that matters to me is that he is by far the best Dr I have ever had the pleasure to know. His love. Compassion, ability, and diagnostician abilities exceed every one! May God continue to “open your eyes " Ray to all He has destined you to be and to become!

Thank you for your exemplary life, especially in dealing with the changes in your life. The mention of your wife being there throughout is very inspiring. I am Kenyan, living in Nairobi and leading a small church. I will be sure to share your story with others in a similar situation. God bless you!

What an ispiring message! As someone who has taken on quite a few new responsabilities recently, I've taken comfort in creating concrete plans. I'm not talking about the detailed down to the t kind of plans, just some general ones that help me deal with some of the uncertainty as to where I see myself down the line. I'm not sure how many others do this, but it really helps!

Hey Dr. Mis. You may not remember me but I certainly remember you. Your courage is extremely inspiring and your story of success in your practice and entrepreneurial success is simply amazing. My name is Dave Ruzzo and I was a patient of yours years back. I love the idea of a fiber rich ice cream but what about those, like myself and my wife, who do not eat dairy? Can you formulate this great ice cream with soy or almond milk. There are alot of people who are vegetarian or vegan and do not eat anything in the meat category. Meat is not good for the digestion. God did not create human beings to ingest meat. Although I still like my chicken my wife and I do not eat Pork or red meat. we are trying to get away from dairy altogether like cow's milk. Cow's was not intended for human ingestion but was only intended for baby cows. I look forward to meeting up with you again and seeing "Seriously good ice cream" made with soy or almond milk. Since the days of your demise I have been seeing Dr. Angela Fishman.
