I own an '89 4Runner, and I love to see how Toyota has stayed true to itself when it comes to the 4Runner. Kinda dated style, but it's a good one tho. Also love the rear window detail, my 4Runner rear window lowers like that too.

Nice review! I've been watching lots of 2019 TRD Pro videos even after I got mine last month, and yes, I got it in Voodoo Blue. You're right, it definitely gets looks wherever I go. Just yesterday I had a blue Ram pull up next to me at a stoplight and the guy motioned for me to lower my window, and when I did he immediately said 'That's a nice blue!'. Anyway, I couldn't be happier with this 4Runner. I've already gotten some additional tint done (sunstrip) and rock sliders, and plan on many more adventuring modifications in the future. Again, nice video!

Have you had a issue with smelling a slight burning smell when you stomp on the gas to pass someone. It is not bad or overwhelming, but I was curious if you had an issue with this as well. I truly enjoy my voodoo blue 4runner. I went from a 2006 jeep TJ to the 4runner. Everyone is talking about lack of technology. I finally have power windows! And, a touch screen entertainment system to boot. Nothing but good things to say, except the slight smell(initially, then goes away) when I stomp on the pedal. Normal driving, there is no smell. Thanks

I looked at the 4R when I was trading my 2 door JK. Decided I wanted a 4 door Jeep Rubicon Recon. The 4R rides a lot better on road, but the Jeep is better off road. The lack of LED headlights was a deal killer. I just couldn't get past the front end of the 4R and the Jeep is far easier to modify. I still love the 4R. Both are great vehicles for their intended use.
@itr08635 жыл бұрын
SaintNick71 well said. They are both really good vehicles depending on what you want to do. I decided that the 4R was better for me than the jeep because of wanting to be a daily driver and a trail riding camp vehicle. I live in Florida which makes a decision easier as well. I think if I lived in the mountains or out west I would probably consider a jeep more.

Save your cash and buy the trd off road or off road premium. Can save roughly 10,000 bucks because dealers mark up the pro’s so much. Same vehicle without the low grade fox suspension that most people change anyway. And the pro wheels can be purchased for 650 or less when they go on sale.

Was just about to write that.(or re-write that for the umpteenth time) It boggles my mind why people spend so much on something like that and then strip it apart and recreate it. Look I have KDSS on my brand new model because it gives me better articulation off road and stability on road. Now I am going to jack it up 5 inches and make it obsolete. (1 example) To each their own. But it is a waste of a vehicle configuration and money.

Toyota doesn't design the 4Runner with the intention of it being appealing to everyone nor do they need to with their complete line up of other SUVs. When are people going to accept this? You either like the 4Runner's chacteristics or it's not the vehicle for you. I love the beastly thing= honest, old school makes no apologies truck. Nice and comfortable for what it is, without being pretentious or loaded with stuff I don't want to pay for. Stellar history of reliability. The only real complaint I have is the headlights...unacceptably poor for a modern vehicle, even a truck. Hopefully this will be addressed in the redesign.

I’ve been considering one myself. I saw a guy with a brand new one (cardboard license plate) recently in store parking lot, asked him how he liked it (even though he probably didn’t have it long enough to value his opinion). He said, “This is the 4th one I’ve owned, I love them!”. Well then, his opinion is worth a lot! So I asked if It bugged him that it didn’t have Apple Car Play. His answer, “What is that?”

I have the previous generation 4Runner an 2005 one and I’ve owned many performance sport sedans in past and still own one to this day the beauty of these trucks is how there easy af to maintain, they get the job done pure and simple. The headlights don’t even bother me at all there’s always the aftermarket for that but I always highly recommend Bilsteins 5100 with a minor lift and call it a day.

The 4Runner is likely my next vehicle once one of our leases comes up in about 18 months. However, I agree with you 100% about the engine ... I have to believe Toyota can improve the HP and torque in that 4.0L. If GM can get over 300hp and 300lb. ft of torque from their 3.6, this 4.0 has to be capable of more. It's a big heavy truck too, a bit more power wouldn't be the worst thing.

Bought a brand new TRD Pro 2019. Drove it off the lot with 1 mile. Heard a small knocking noise in the right front suspension. Slept on it. The next day it was very pronounced so we took it back to the dealer in Denver. The mechanic heard it as well. I returned the vehicle with 27 miles for a full refund. Two weeks later was informed there is a problem with the fox shocks. The independent valves inside the shock were freezing not allowing the proper flow of hydraulic fluid based upon the terrain selected. Unless you need something that's capable off-road, I would stick with the Highlander. Other than off-road capability and perhaps interior cargo space, it's going to be better than the 4Runner in every way. Don't get me wrong, the 4Runner is a great vehicle, if you need that type of vehicle. I bought one a few months ago, and I love it. After driving it though, I'm kind of puzzled by so many people drive them to just chauffer the kids around and such. Mine, I plan on using it to go camping and off-roading, so that's why I wanted something with that capability. A Jeep Wrangler was also high on my list, but Toyota reliability won out.
@reginaalear5 жыл бұрын
Michael Smith I never go off reading. I enjoy the smooth ride of the Highlander. I was wondering if the 4Runner had the same smooth ride. I’m assuming it wouldn’t be with the size difference. My Grand Cherokee was kind of bulky and was rough riding. My husband has back problems and complained about how uncomfortable it was every time I would go over bumps and potholes.
@trailrunnah88865 жыл бұрын
@@reginaalear no, your Highlander would probably ride much nicer. I would say just go out and drive a 4Runner if you're curious. You'll probably be surprised at how truck- like it is. They're big and slow, and they don't handle very well. They have some fancy suspension pieces available that make them handle a little better, but still probably nowhere as nice as your Highlander. Also, I don't know if you need a third row seat, nor am I familiar with the setup in the Highlander, but I can say from looking at a friend's 4Runner that the third row in the 4Runner is very small. And when it's in use there's very little cargo space left. What year is your Grand Cherokee? I had a 97 that rode a pretty rough after I modified it, but I thought the newer ones were pretty much luxury Vehicles these days.
@reginaalear5 жыл бұрын

4Runner is the real deal and I love that color, but after riding in one a few times, I was surprised for what a big boxy vehicle it is outside, how cramped the interior feels. I'm far from a big guy at 5'7", so I usually fit comfortably in all vehicles, but I was surprised how claustrophobic the interior felt up front. I had to load a water heater into the cargo area, at which point I realized how stupidly high the load lift over is. The suspension is also really oddly mushy on these things. Riding in one around the city on lumpy and rough pavement, the thing wallowed all over the place, but it does ride smooth. I was also gobsmacked that a vehicle costing in excess of $30k has an all hard plastic dashboard. Sub-$20k economy cars have nicely padded dashboards these days. Toyota does such cheap plasticky interiors and they always have. 4Runner is a great SUV if you need something off road capable. If not, it's totally overkill and there are tons of CUVs out there that perform much better for the typical A-B commute, highway trips, load cargo, ingress/egress, interior quality.
@trailrunnah88865 жыл бұрын
You are right on the plastic of the interior and the cheapness, but I'm 5-9 and I feel like the vehicle is pretty spacious. I love all the cargo space, in mine the rear seats are down most of the time with room for the dogs. I find the big windows and the sunroof make it feel light and airy inside. I also like that there's actual legroom for adult humans in the back seat. My previous car was a Volvo XC70, and while it had great cargo room, the rear seat legroom was near nonexistent. I would always have to put my seat up if I had people in the back, same with the front passenger. So now everybody in the car is cramped lol. No such problem in the 4Runner.

I know I'll be attacked by the Toyota fan club for saying it but I think an Acadia will the All Terrain package is a much more appealing choice so long as you can live with the more frequent servicing in the long run and the slightly reduced off road capability. The Acadia is faster, gets better MPG, has better tech, a better ride, more comfortable seats/seating position, better on road handling, is more maneuverable, gives you a 3rd row option and on and on and on. It also looks better than the 4 Runner IMO. To me, the fact that the Yota "runs forever" is a dubious argument. The rig is so dated now, I wonder how ancient it's going to feel in another 7 or 8 years.
@buoyant695 жыл бұрын
Don't know how laughable that is when the Acadia is equipped with the All Terrain package's 17 in. AT wheel option, then again I live in a metropolitan area not off a dirt trail cut into the side of a mountain. Go to a Wrangler forum and try to make an off-road parallel with the 4Runner sometime. guy proulx Just so you know, a Honda and two Fords presently occupy the spaces in my garage so I don't really have a weiner in your peeing contest here. That said, I'll be shopping for a new SUV soon and none of Toyota's offerings seem competitive to me (a Wrangler is a better off-roader than a 4Runner, the Pilot is a better crossover than the Highlander, etc) in any other measure than reliability. Anyway, I'm not brand loyal and never have been. Rest assured, however, you aren't alone in your allegiance to a single car brand for life. Sometimes it seems there isn't a lone grandmother in the entire Mpls-St. Paul metro area who doesn't enjoy clogging the left lane with her RAV4 or Camry - year after year after year.

Thank you, this aint any street car. It is for those who have the adventurous off-road mind, but it is good that all the 2020 models, come with Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa

Sorry, Dave. But I do not like Toyota's bulging or bug eyed headlights and rear taillights on most of their SUVs and trucks.

Look don’t impress. Ooooo, it says TRD. How about a longer travel suspension and a front locker so it can compete with a rubicon , Dodge Power Wagon, and others true offroad vehicles.

Great vehicle, BUT....god that gas mileage is HORRIBLE. When gas gets back to 3 or 4 bucks (and it will) this truck dies in value and costs an arm and a leg to drive.

Why do these reviewer all hold the camera in their face and show the truck behind them??????? Why can't they just show the truck and talk to us in the background??? Grow up!

@guy proulx a face only a mother could love... All auto sold today will not leave you stranded. Besides with discounting domestics and Koreans are much better deal being up to date and not outdated like Toyota.

@normt54635 жыл бұрын
@guy proulx funny you Toyota fanboys make insults when compare the 1/2 ton Silverado to the Tundra with towing max is not even up to 1/4 ton Silverado max today. The 1/2 ton even tows 1/3 more than Tundra. The 2019 Silverado 1/2 ton has the same US$29K 4x2(US$34K 4x4) on cars dot com as the Tundra and the Chevy is new, not circa 2007. The 1/4 ton is even a better price, tows more, and gets 30% better fuel economy than Toyota.

Beautiful color but it’s driving dynamics are really bad. Unless you are serious off-roader, take it in a highway and in rush hour and test those mushy brakes and nose dive.
@NaijaBoiTellEm5 жыл бұрын
Apparently, having KDSS helps the on-road driving experience. You're right about rush hour driving though ha. I've had mine for just over 22 months and put over 66K miles on my 2016 Trail. I've had to change the way I drive on the highway and/or street because of the aforementioned cons.

Sounds like a rav4 or highlander would suit your wants and needs better. Obviously it’s not the best on road compared to crossovers but it’s a perfect balance between off road beast and on road comfort compared to others. I personally love how it feels on road as well as off road obviously. Just get a crossover or try driving a wrangler on road. The runner is much better as an everyday vehicle for me personally. Use it for work commute and everyday driver and can go off-road anytime I want and know I can go just about anywhere.
@paulm64815 жыл бұрын
@@andyham6094 You may be a Neanderthal. Check yourself in mirror. 4-Runner is absolutely not a good balance. A Jeep Grand Cherokee is a good balance. A 4-Runner is good at one thing, going offroading. But hey, you may not live in a city where things zip left and right by you, see my first sentence again about where you may live.
