Honestly? I wouldn't say that Callum has won. Callum won what exactly? Prove that Earth 2 is a scam? Which will result in it likely crashing and burning? Callum doesn't really win with that. Sure, he achieves a lot of good with it, but it isn't really a win for him, I'd say. What would have been a real win for Callum is if Shane had pulled out all stops and just dropped a mind-blowing piece of demo for Earth 2 that would have shut any critics up forever. Because if Earth 2 is genuine, then nobody wins with it failing. If Earth 2 is a scam, while it failing helps people, it's still not leading to Callum winning much of anything. What really happened here is Shane lost. The moment he made the argument that even the internet's cesspits tend to ridicule for being too weak to amount to anything, Shane has lost. When Callum has delievered anything even 1% of what Shane claims he already had, Shane has already lost hard. But Callum had no real win condition here; Except Shane manning up, paying out the 10k$ and improving Earth 2 to be better. But that was at best a pipe dream.

After all, there's been an entire advertising strategy basically built off manufacturing controversy (often of a politically-loaded nature) to provoke discussion about them. You proved that a single dev could do that much while their "team" of devs and a year an a half of time have "kinda" that, proved that they are a scam. They lost. The challenge meant nothing. And Callum's map looked more like something from an actual game. He zoomed fully in, you can imagine a player standing near some bush or tree there. The recent E2 videos don't even have trees or bushes or rocks that could be individiually identified as such, it's literally just textured terrain/bland geometry with rough bumps for forests. E2 released a video recently with more in-engine location showcases including georeferencing using Google Earth. And while it doesn't look ugly per-se the problem persists that it's kinda zoomed out far and that it won't be super relevant in this form unless they are planning to make an isometric/bird's eye view game. But my impression is that neither Shane nor the E2 community can fully agree what will come out in the end, it's all so blurry and vague still.

I think what Shane and the E2 community need to realize is that we don't hate them, there is not a conspiracy against them. The issues we have can be broken down to 2 main things - 1) E2 is promising something that can not be delivered. A real time simulation of the ENTIRE planet, with RDR2 level graphics, for many thousands of players - The Matrix - Ready Player 1... it can not be done. The technology doesn't exist yet, and won't for many years. 2) They are already selling land, for a game that does not exist yet. Gems, resources, holographic buildings - for land, for a game, that does not exist yet. By all accounts, they were selling stuff long before serious development on the game portion had even begun. A small start-up isn't going to make something bigger and more complex than the largest MMOs out there. If E2 had only promised something more realistic, we wouldn't be so critical of the project.

In their demo what stuck out to me is that they used high speed movement as a wow factor... But as a computer science graduate and in dev space for few years now I can 100% say that if you speed through something that means you are not confident in that piece of the project or it doesn't work as described and you want to hide it. Exactly, it’s not very difficult to fly past “highly detailed” terrain at a few hundred thousand kmh. As if anyone will be doing that in the game anyway. With modern software solutions being able to do that easily, going that fast is really just a test of how fast your machine is. Callum I think I can identify what video the Earth 2 Devs used for there entire build it's called "Painting a Landscape using Mathematics" their execution is horrible but I've been doing terrain generation for upwards of 4 years now and the similarities between E2's "Proprietary Technology" and this video is uncanny, and it's honestly sad how bad there butchered it though, like it honestly shows that the E2 devs don't even have a high school level of understanding in mathematics

Minor critique: your "bounce rate" argument at the end does not really follow. Those that bounced would not know it was a spreadsheet, because they did not click anything. The break between expectations and reality is at least a click in. Bounce rates usually indicate a poorly targeted ad or landing page friction. Otherwise great video! Kudos.

Anyone who invests in Earth 2 right now has no choice but to go on the frontal attack and claim it's all real. It's real money, and that doesn't make a community any less dangerous. So, I think the most weirdest part of when Shane shows the footage is that it's in the unity game engine, not weird on it's own but rather he blurs out the actual version he is using, which is quite suspicious as while free there is a business license version he'd probably have to use, but me knowing the versions can tell you it is at the very least 2019 or later. due to various factors mainly dark mode, and the text and logo on the screen. NOT ONLY that but there is nothing in the assets window on the bottom portion because he is in the favorites and not in the actual assets file, witch is weird as there is stuff in the hierarchy on the left hand side. but there is a folder labeled packages in that bottom window, again kind of weird to see as I have delt with unity packages coming in that sort of labeling some what. I can't make out much on the right hand properties window but I can see it's kind of generic stuff and doesn't look like really anything special or more then a default thing you can just plunk down in unity from the word go. at least that is what I a small unity, blender and model maker sees as I have worked with that engine a lot, I don't know just seemed weird to me.
