The a6400 is a great little camera. I suggested it to my sister-in-law and she has fallen in love with it. She does portraits with the Sigma 56mm f1.4. She also has the Sigma 30mm f1.4, the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 and the 16-50’kit lens. She is one very happy photographer with this easy to pack kit. I’m looking to add this to my own a7III Kit to use it on my gimbal. My a7III is in a cage and a hassle to use on the gimbal, so the a6400 kept clean and light would be great to have ready for the gimbal.

Very good points about the small setup that's easy to pack. I really like that about this camera.

This is exactly like my setup The SmallRig cold shoe mount completely solved the microphone blocking the flip up screen dilemma that everyone was complaining about at release, and other than lack of IBIS, which is not a problem for me, I believe this is the best most compact vlogging setup.

That’s basically the setup I like to use. The Sony a6400 with the sigma 16mm 1.4. I use the smallrig ccs 2310 cage and the wooden handle. It adds stability and feels better in my hands. I’m a bigger guy so the a6400 by itself it just way to small.

I think if you film yourself the A6400 is a great camera. If like me you film behind the camera (I would have thought the majority of people) it's not such an obvious choice. I am considering it for a lightweight camera for a compact gimbal like the Weebill Lab or SC tho. PS you don't always need a gimbal for hand held clips. I use my fluid head and rest the handle extended on to my shoulder.

The a6400 is a great vloggling camera although it’s very underrated for that purpose. I still think the 6500 is Still the APSC flagship for Sony. Great video. Glad to see you back on KZbin.

The only thing the A6500 has over the A6400 is IBIS, everything else is better on the A6400 - improved color science, focus, real time tracking in video, no record limit out of box, no screen dimming in 4k, better heat management, improved processor/software, battery life, Hyper Log Gamma, lower iso for s-log, time lapse, better menus etc. etc.

I have the A6400. I'm stuck on something though. Recording in 25p (either 1080p or 4k) I get a noticeable flickering when panning left or right. I'm at 1/50 and use lenses with and without stabilization. What am I doing wrong? 60p and above the problem goes away.

Hey Danny, What would you say for ISO could you get away with this camera in low light for clean photo/video? could it do 6400 clean? or would you say 3200 max or 1600 max? I use to shoot DSLR, Took a break and getting the itch to shoot again and want to shoot mirror-less. I was looking at sony A7iii, but then this came out. For now I will be mostly shooting my family, and learning to shoot video. Eventually I want to get into paid portraits/video jobs on the side. What are your thoughts? The only other camer I was looking at was the Panasonic S1 but the auto focus is not as good as Sony and it is expensive but the video options are amazing on paper. Thank you in advance for your help.

If im using this for Vlogging would u recommend the stabilized a6500 rather than this one? Not really sure if I'll use the screen because I prefer not to look at the screen while filming , but its alot cheaper which is extremely exciting with the 16 1.4

Sony likes to advertise that the A7R4 has 15 stops of dynamic range. Well the a6400 has 13.6 stops of dynamic range. That’s really impressive for a crop sensor!

I was wondering if you were using manual focus or autofocus in this video. This is my first Sony camera, and I was hoping to film myself using autofocus, but there is a lot of pulsing even though it can clearly detect and follow my face. Are you aware of any solutions for that or is it what it is?

It sucks for me that this camera is that great because I don’t do video. I never really have. With having Nikon FF gear and the Sony a6000 it doesn’t seem to make sense to purchase this because all the great features I’d never use. What would be really nice is if Sony made just a stills camera that would blow the doors off of everything else. Our photo cameras are now camcorders. I’m sure with one of these bodies they could remove any video options and pour all that tech in to making a Sony a6600SRIII. All the goodies in one package for photogs. That would be awesome.

What's your opinion on cheap vs expensive variable ND filter. I too was looking for one for my 16f1.4 but pretty hesitant.
@that1cameraguy
@that1cameraguy 5 жыл бұрын
I've never really purchased high end variable ND filters, other than the Tiffen brand which have been okay. I've been in situations when filming on a sunny day shooting almost wide open and having to stop the filter down considerably. I'd experience some nasty color cast when pushing the nd filter. Secondly, I've used variable nd filters for photography before, and the lower cost ones I used definitely impacted the quality of the images in terms of sharpness and color. I just use that particular Variable ND filter in the video to balance my key light with the outdoor sun from my window and it works well. If I were to push that ND to the extremes, it probably wouldn't do so well. As far as expensive ones, I don't have a good answer as I haven't tried the high end ones.
