Looking for something currently. The a6400 was on my short list... until I saw the GH5. Yes, it's more expensive than the a6400 - but it's pretty much right in line with the a6600. Features and functionality the GH5 seems quite a bit ahead of either Sony. Thoughts/opinions? Pros/cons of the Sony vs the Panasonic? Yes, I realize the Sony is APS-C and the Panasonic is MFT :)

This is such a great setup! If you ONLY need this setup for a couple events a year, I recommend looking into renting this gear! Although, if your shooting videos all year long, buy this gear because you can use this camera is so many more ways as well 🙌

I'm using the a6500 with the recording limit removed. I've found if you tilt the LCD away from the body, it doesn't experience the overheating issues too much unless you're in a super hot, sunny place. Usually, my batteries fail before the heat. I'm also using the smallHD monitor and a DJI Ronin-SC gimbal (separately depending on application). Great additions to have!

I'm currently using the panasonic lumix g85 with a 12-60mm f/2.8-4 - it's a m43 mount camera and is super crispy at 4k. in body image stabilization (IBIS) can be combined with in-lens image stabilization for buttery smooth shots when going handheld in the field, and the autofocus works really well. I can either do 2-system audio with my zoom h4n and htdz ht-81 shotgun mic or I can power the ht-81 from an AA battery and use an xlr to 1/8" adapter and run it directly into the camera and use it with a coldshoe mount for very light run-and-gun work or for streaming / studio work, i put the ht-81 on a microphone boom stand with a longer xlr cable running it into my zoom h4n pro as a usb microphone interface to my pc via usb and using a camlink 4k to do clean capture of the lumix g85 via a microhdmi to hdmi cable into the camlink - everything is just as sharp and clean as if i were recording to sd and I can use OBS to control my stream and sync the audio delay so lips match the voice. it's a very light, very durable (weather sealed camera and lenses, strong enclosures) setup. oh, and also I bought the USB power supply cable for the g85 which comes with a usb power adapter for constant ac power in studio environments OR I can use a 20ah USB battery pack (yup, a normal large usb battery charger like you'd use for your phone), and that will power the camera and the audio recorder pretty much all day. I can either stick it in a pocket or I put some velcro on it and to my tripod so it just sticks on my tripod for use on sticks. extremely versatile setup.

How is the face auto focus detect when using the External Monitor? Would it still focus on the face or the one nearer to the camera? If it's the later, what would be the solution? I am looking to use an external monitor for gimbal work but I am worried that face auto focus would not work. Thanks!

I do SOME event recording. At one point I was doing a 2 camera setup with a GoPro hero 4 and a T3i.. I would record at 4k with the GoPro, and push in 2X down to 1080 for my wide and get closeups with the T3i. It "worked" but it was a pain. Now I do it with an M50 and the T3i w/magic lantern. I like this setup much better though. Now the company I work with just wants me to go live with my cellphone (so they don't have to pay me for my gear) If I was still doing evens I would probably consider this, but I'm really looking at buying a Canon C100 or XC10 this year. Something more Cinema focused.

I am a stay-at-home mom and wanted to start a channel of my life including parenting, homemaking, and foster care. I have since realized that due to the specific details of our foster child's case, this would be unwise. Do you have any ideas of what kind of channel I could do that would be successful and not include filming my kids or much of my living place, that still fall into this niche?

Very good but the half truth, make more videos about... I think that the amateur audience here want to know the equipment workflow and techiques are mastered by experience not by equipment..my humble recommendations are , 3 primes lenses to start so that anyone must realize the hand(ling) stability on tripods and learn to follow the action -prestaged (on a live event, theater etc.),so that distance and aesthetics can perform on editing platform.. The fluid head and tripod is another painful story , prefer the expensive ones.. The body is a matter for beginers , features like excellent autofocus and conituous video recording stands at new mirrorless sony a6 series , other manufacturers like panasonic have also excellent features especially at video ,costs more or even the competitive canon , sony , fujifilm etc. , the recording limit through an external recorder that supports dci p3 chroma space isn t an issue and costs over 1000$ but the result and possibilities are miles ahead of a simple monitor and an expensive photographer s lens..new sony lenses for example are the 70- 350mm f4.5 - 6,3 is an excellent crop lens and sharp with stabilisation ,costs about 950$ i think , and 16 -55 f2.8 wide to zoom cost about 1300$ and is for crop bodies also..full frame lenses have stange appliance on crop bodies and vice versa.. Mic jacks prefer with amplifier or phantom power with linear pcm coding cause the sound is the half case of video, costs around 350$ to 700$ or take multidirectional recorders that have double use 1)just record atmosphere far away from speakers and above 2 meters height or 2) connect to the sound console of each event you shoot...costs from 200$ to thousands!! Also prefer different cameras so that u can learn the handling and what suits you the best through time.. Hope i helped for other info maybe at another "tutorial"of think media...
