Күн бұрын

In this short video, Tibetan Buddhist meditation master Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche explains how he used the practice of meditation to transform the way he dealt with the crippling panic attacks and anxiety experienced as a child. He also shows how this approach can be used with any painful feeling or emotion. In another video teaching, "My Story ~ Mingyur Rinpoche talks about his childhood experience with panic attacks and anxiety," he describes his childhood experiences with panic and anxiety.
This video includes subtitles in Italian and Spanish.
These clips are drawn from the teachings presented in the Joy of Living meditation workshops, which are offered at Tergar Meditation Centers and Groups around the world. To take a free, self-guided intro to meditation course, visit learning.tergar.... Or, for more information about Mingyur Rinpoche and his teachings, please visit www.tergar.org, where you will find information about events and retreats, and also a free online intro to meditation course. Elona Alčiauskaitė He speaks in such soothing tones. The method he successfully used on himself also works. Empirical research finds that it follows a dose-response curve. That is, the more one meditates, the more benefit one derives. Therefore, one should stick with it, even if or when progress seems to be stalling. BTW, there is an ever-accumulating body of neuroscientific research demonstrating indisputably that meditation actually changes the physical structures of the brain in ways that are beneficial. So, if there are times that you get impatient or frustrated with the pace of progress, take comfort in knowing that literally beneath the surface of your experience, profound rewiring of your brain is taking shape, and all the more with add’l effort on your part! E.G., Check out videos (youtube etc.) by Professor Richard Davidson (researcher at U. Wisconsin) or Dr. Dan Goleman, among many others, on this topic. They also recently wrote or edited a book that summarizes the best quality, extant research on this. It’s called “Altered Traits”.

I have suffered with panic disorder for 15 years. 10 years i became agoraphobic and house bound from fear of panic attacks out doors. I became frightened of going out. The last year i faced my fear and started doing exposure therapy and little by little started going out doors and fighting my panic. Thank you for your video i have faith this will help me with my journey 🙏🏻

Same here. It's been like 10 - years for me about, and like 5ish years agoraphobic. Looking for solution to cure my eating disorder phobia quickly. I think this method seems quite good. It seems to follow the same mindset as Claire Weeks in the way that you just let it pass and observe basically. Floating I think she calls it. Have you had any luck breaking free?

Hi Julia, like Rinpoche said in this video - use the panic as an object of meditation. Don't run away from it, sit with it once. I know it takes courage but think to yourself at that moment, having gone through so many of them did anything ever happen to you? You have evidence that it's a false alarm, and just endure it (try to remember someone who gives you real strength, like maybe your mother or father). And sit on the ground, as close as possible to mother Earth. I wish you good luck!

Wow Fear of Panic is how my klonopin habit continued. Along with becoming less tolerant of anxiety as I got used to having an escape route. Been clean from that and some subsequent addictions since, but still dealing with the same thing with my cannabis use. Right now I'm just trying to strengthen my spiritual practice until I have enough tools and strength to completely stamp it out.

I had much of it in my youth, but it went away later on. I sometimes get it still, but it don't bother me that much. It's just a normal part of life sometimes. Nothing to be afraid of. I read a book on it, and it went away... Self help book. Meditation is good also. ;) The best way is to not even care about if, and just forget about it.

"Making friends" with the risings sounds fine - a bit like Rumi inviting all the negative thoughts in, like old friends on a visit, but beginners like me may need a little more guidance on how to direct our attention. I had a scary night once - and may have again - where I got through by realising that the observer is not the "negative" or even "positive" stuff that is seen. This needs maybe more guidance ( I only found a way through by using teachings I had heard) , and I haven't enough experience or authority, so if you need more, listen to some good teachers.

In reply to the objection put by "Peak Planet": to say Mingyur Rinpoche is being "duplicitous" is clearly based on an erroneous perception. Of course he knows perfectly well that we cannot "avoid the battle", and Rinpoche is clearly NOT suggesting that. PP says MR admits he was "powerless against his own PA's" . No he wasn't! Though "power" is a misleading word here, because MR found he could learn to ride the situation by steadfastly observing in a non-grasping way. One can develop trust and confidence like this, although one should not expect a smooth (or bumpy!) ride.

Samatha, Compassion and Vipassana But beside these it has a lot to do with changing your perspective toward it, he gave an outline of the sort of perspective that is useful but there was no thorough technique prescribed necessarily. It's probably very complicated and individualized.

In the moment, you have to try and cut through the illusory fear your mind projects - not fight it, but understand what and why it is - and use that anchor to embrace the moment, temper and soften your thoughts, and fully experience the bodily sensations with the understanding of what it is, why it is happening, and that the only thing that can actually hurt you in that moment is believing how you feel and rising to it.

Sam V. It-that is, Mindfulness Meditation or Vipassana (Insight) Meditation-can be used with every malady, mental or physical. Sam Harris calls it the “universal solvent” for human suffering. It both, overlaps and dovetails with, the cutting-edge methods of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Which is why it is now being adapted for, and combined with, CBT by clinical researchers and clinicians. E.G., MBCT; ACT. However, what I just learned from this video is that he also successfully applied Loving-Kindness (Metta) / Compassion Meditation to his panic attacks. He also mentioned Samatha (Calming) Meditation, so I’m going to watch his video(s) on how to do that. Usually though, Mindfulness/Vipassana Meditation covers this-or that’s the impression given. I’m still trying to discern how “Concentration Meditation “ actually differs much from the former. For the record, I’m a clinical psychologist well-trained in CBT, but now immersing myself-including experientially-in Eastern philosophies & methods, to supplement or perhaps even go beyond CBT in my efforts to pragmatically, palpably help people face life’s challenges. If anyone knows some bonafied Samatha meditation methods other than zazen or Vipassana/Mindfulness or mantra, I’d love to find out ...

He was having panic attacks, he had to leave the prayer hall, etc. I'm sure he wasn't cured instantly, but he worked on it. His story is similar to mine, though I was never trained in meditation nor did I watch how-to videos, through a hodge podge of experimentation and advice I was able to learn how to- for the most part- accept my panic attacks, and heal faster from them.
@Spartansoldier217
@Spartansoldier217 7 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean, but I don't think he was advising people to meditate whilst panicking. The way I interpreted it was that he had an epiphany and worked towards stopping his panic attacks in general, not that he had a panic attack and decided to meditate in the middle of it.
@Spartansoldier217
@Spartansoldier217 7 жыл бұрын
I don't doubt that's true for experienced meditators, but OP is right about panic attacks; they are utterly disabling. In my own experience, meditation has primarily been helpful in that it allows me to prevent panic attacks and to control general anxiety before they become problems, not while they're problems.
