I stated doing lawns part time a couple seasons back, still haven’t pull the trigger on better equipment. I have a Husqvarna weed eater and handheld stilh blower and a 22 in walk behind push mower. I’m debating between a 30 in toro or 30 exmart? Thoughts ? I use the bed of my truck so can’t do much bigger than a 30 in. I have around 15 total lawns that I do biweekly, so 7-8 every Tuesday which is my day off.

@Zulu Tiger Well it really depends what you want to do in life, i get that you prefer to sit at a desk and make 5 figure's a week but some people treat grass cutting as exercise maybe even an art. Most of us are independent, don't hire mexicans to cut for us and we love our job even though it doesn't make cash with low effort. You can't enjoy every single thing in life, you enjoy what you love and your life is what you make it. Some people just like to work hard for what they have
@scrapinpennies4365
@scrapinpennies4365 3 жыл бұрын
@Zulu Tiger I see what you're saying, and im not trying to say that you're career preference requires less work at all. Im just implying that some people will stick with this job as they don't see a purpose to pursue another career. Im in highschool doing lawncare right now but im not gonna stick to strictly cutting blades, im planning on branching out to other hustles such as car flips or carpentry because i want to stay self employed, fuck people making times and standards and choosing what they pay me. Thats just me though, and others alike. If you want to do stock trading, computer data analysis, art, writing, encryption, web design, video game engine coding, software engine coding or whatever, you can do it and i support it. We all stick to what we want to do, sorry if i came off as a rude fuck

Whether you realize it or not, your communications degree has shaped you into a business man and pushed you to become who you are today. Don't underestimate the power of a degree. higher education is important for people who are useless. That way they can charge for being useless. Don't believe me ? well employ ten professionals and then count how many were any good. You won't get to 3. If you have anything going for you at all you have a lot of options in life.

As a mid 20s degree-holder, Learn online and make moves quick. Moves will either work out or teach you a semesters worth of insight. Only way I can recommend media or communications degrees from schools is if you stream the entire process GoPro style, challenge the professors and go Simon Cowell when your peers present their work. Otherwise the internet has more info and it stays up to date better. Test the value yourself, get half decent with Photoshop, get some odd-sized hardstock paper and a frame... Run rampant through these industries

I’ve been a solo self employed guy for 30 years now. Many advantages, anyone who can be dedicated, communicate well with customers, and offer quality work can do a business. For the last 5 years I have shifted my business to just a lawn mowing business and a snowplowing business. Finding time off when I choose is not the way my business really works. I have 56 lawn customers and I mow at least 10 to 16 lawns per day, 5 days a week, roughly 6hr days. The lawn mowing business requires weekly cuts, at least here in the northeast...I have weekends off, usually, but I get 10 days off in late September, early October.....that’s the only break in the 8 month season when we can escape. Winter? I get lots of time off but I have to be local if it snows, hard to vacation. What I’ve experienced over 3 decades of self employment is I am married to my business, and my wife as well. I have put the business first as many owners do. Money? Absolutely. But if a “boss” asked me to work as hard as I have, to take 5 minute lunch breaks, to start in the office at 6:30 every morning, to crawl under mowers at the end of the day to sharpen blades, to spend my money on more and more equipment, to drive trucks and vans instead of a sweet sports car, well he could kiss my ass. Yet here I am. Running your own business is at least double the work of showing up to someone else’s company , but hey, I can do whatever I want.

Great advice and can tell your on track to being very successful in this business. One thing I could add after doing this for 24 years is suggesting using Monday's for maintenance day and then mowing just 4 days a week with a employee. It makes things so much easier and besides most people would prefer not to have their lawns mowed on Monday's. Then use Saturday's to do landscape projects for customers or shrub trimming. Life is Great! ...God bless!

Thanks, this is the most useful video i've found on this. Back when i was your age i had a carpet cleaning business and basically "lived to work" just like you said, with a ton of expenses. Eventually i got a good "paying" job (not to be confused with a "good" job) and shut down my cleaning business. Now I'm 50 and tired of working for a company with all their rules, and I am looking to do lawn care as a 1 man operation and work only 2-3 days a week with low expenses to spend more time enjoying life. I have always loved mowing and being outside, so it seems like a perfect fit to earn some money while getting some exercise. Thanks again !!!!

I've been following various guys doing their lawn businesses for over a year. I'm new to the business so I'm trying to get insight on equipment and strategies to be successful. Most of the guys I follow have been in for many years and are at the peak, so I often feel inspired but not engaged because they arent talking about how to get to where they are. You are an inspiration because of your success and simplicity. I know I can reach my goals after watching how you perform. Thanks for the guidance. Keep it up guy!

@@sebas.0773 my advice, head to the subdivisions in your city. Lotsa retired folk, go door to door confidently, ask them straight up. "Hi ma'am/mistet, would you want your lawn taken care of for $_?" From there, use a bike tow wagon or have your parents drive you around until you can get a better mower, build a reputation and spread to other subdivisions. Especially here in California, you can technically start a business legally at 14 (that's what I did) and hire some of your classmates/other kids to spread across. Or just keep it personal.

Thanks! I do not do aeration or seeding, just mowing, fertilizer, weed spray, hedge trims, mulching, and some cleanups! And for length I just determine what would look best for their yard, and if they ever want it higher/shorter they can let me know and I will adjust 😎

@makemoneymowing
@makemoneymowing 4 жыл бұрын
I will do the occasional mulching- most of my yards can be mulched with under 10 bags so no biggie! I just don't offer it as a service for new callers, only my existing customers. I don't do seeding, all i do is the mows, fertilizer, weed sprays, hedge trims, mulch, and that's it!
