This is the best RTS game I've played. The summary that this review gives isn't fair. This game is like if Age Of Empires and Civilization had a baby. The best part it's this game let you enjoy a match without need to dominate all the hot keys like a no social life person (Starcraft players). Another reason it's every clan (faction) has unique play style and there is a lot of ways to win a match: domination, economic, fame ... It's a light refreshing way to play a strategy game for a change.

Hey man. That is exactly how I felt when I started playing this game 3yrs ago. But you would be amazed how quick this game can be played at fast pace in intense multiplayer battles. The unique thing about Northgard is being RTS, it doesn't rely purely on micro but it is more on decision, tactic, build order focus and teamwork. And of course the differences and strategies of each clan.

I want an RTS game that does not have a duration of gameplay, a slow paced game that you can build your kingdom forever. Like Clash of Clans, or The Settlers.

I absolutely like it! I hope it gets more updates and expansions. So many differences and tactics between the tribes. Great game! I bought warcraft III for twice the money and this is much much better (although the story is somewhat limited)

Thanks for this. Kind of thought I was crazy or missing something for not liking it. Having no creative freedom with building my village made it feel pointless. There are so many frustrating things about this game such as your army not being able to lift fog of war to travel to a different location. Makes no sense. I wish I’d watched more reviews before buying this game because it was wasted money for me.

yeah building a base is not fun in Northgard, actually there's no base building in Northgard in my opinion. In stronghold there's a territory concept but you can do whatever stuff you want to in that territory and you've more control over your territory and resource management. I like the northgard concept specially those mythical creatures and mythology concept like "AOE the age of mythology" but in game mechanics of northgard are very bad in my opinion. i always feel like i am bound to progress in a very certain way and if i don't then i cannot compete for the W which takes the sense of freedom from this game.

Nice review i can support the points you made about this game. However i do think that the first missions of the story are so slow that you might not even wanna complete it. And i think you should have mentioned the 4 Ways of winning in a multiplayer match and how your starting ressource may ruin the match for you. Lastly that there is no cross tile ranged combat

Great summary. Didn't expect you to play this since it feels more like a puzzle game than an rts. Find a way to progress through the tiles without getting killed of by a rat plague followed by a harsh winter. Slow pace and lack of things to do often let me watch the demise of my people within 5 min after playing for an hour... Great fun -_-

There's way too much sitting and watching in this game. And too many dumb rules, like your troops can't move over invisible lines on the map because a scout hasn't been there yet. And zero military depth.

Good review, wish I had of read it before buying. The lack of real base building gets me too. Some of the tactics really irk me and seem counter-intuitive, ie let your first military die rather than heal. No hero in skirmish till you finish story on extreme is bs.

I played it, nothing too terribly special about it. However if you want a *real* challenge, play the story on extreme difficulty and try to get all the bonus objectives on each level. It's pretty hard. I'd put it on par with Age of Mythology titan difficulty (which if you're unaware, is absurd).

I didn't care for this game. Everyone was unhappy all of the time. I couldn't add enough buildings to thrive. Money just stopped at one point and I couldn't get it started again. Meh

Northguard is really slow for an RTS. It's okay but as the reviewer said, there are better games in the genre out there.

This review gives me the sense that you did not play multiplayer, or if you did, you did not win any games. Not only were you totally unfair to the game, but you also got some basic things wrong about the mechanics. I get that you didn't like it, but you clearly didn't play it enough to give an accurate review, so why did you even give a review in the first place?
