I think the clothing could increase the comfort level while wearing them and resting by 1/2/3. This would also make some sense since resting in fine clothes would be more comfortable than resting in armor. Although it might be unbalanced to have both the headpieces and the tunics/dresses grant the increase, so they could make it a set buff.
@Pimpemon Жыл бұрын
I was also thinking that the new clothing could give some kind of rested buff while it is equipped. While it would be annoying to switch clothing when sleeping, wearing heavy armor while you sleep should give a debuff for the rested bonus since it is heavy and uncomfortable to wear while constricting movement. It already has the constricting movement debuff which is probably enough.

I think people should remember that Valheim often creates a skeleton of a feature to test its mechanics then fleshes things out down the road in future updates. This includes food, the original trader, seasonal events, building and crafting stations. This is how development has been for the game. So right now the rewards, items and quests for the new NPC are meh but they will improve if the past development cycles are anything to go by. This game is in early access and it actually a proper early access with the game developers working to add systems and flesh out existing mechanics as the game advances through its development cycle. I am fine with a wait and see attitude because the dev has delivered so far. I may not agree with every choice but the game is better than release and there is more content than release so I am more than happy with this progression.

Personally this update was something I was hyped for because of the world customization. Not only does this mean quite a lot for the future, but I also absolutely despised the no portaling metals feature. It always felt like needless padding to a game that was already pretty grindy. As for the minibosses, I love fighting all of them, but I also agree that they need their own personal drops that don't break progression, but is still very useful. Doesn't make any sense that Zil & Thungr gets one, but the others don't

Strict linear progression is so limiting. I love having a few ways through the maze. Stoked to get chickens. I’ve been exploring Mistlands fine so far and have found all the items and dungeons I need without beating Yag. The biome has plenty of mist-free areas, at least in my seed.

Given that Valheim is fundamentally a roleplaying game, I can envision a multitude of ways in which this update will significantly elevate and enrich the overall gaming experience. In multiplayer gaming sessions, it's not uncommon for one player to assume the responsibility of tending to the base, which involves tasks such as gardening and cooking. The introduction of visually appealing clothing adds versatility and serves multiple purposes in these scenarios.

Even if they sported the skills boosts suggested, who has the patience and inventory space to go out into the world, swap to an armourless outfit that gives +10 to Woodcutting to chop some wood, then to a +10 Pickaxes outfit to mine some Silver, then switch to your armour gear because you woke up a Stone Golem, then back to your Pickaxes outfit to finish mining and so on? It's just bleh. More stuff to spend your gold on is fine - if it's actually useful stuff. I think existing stats would not be the way to go because as other people have said, lugging around an extra set of clothing is not really worth the benefit of doing so when you are out in the world. The best thing they could do is add unique modifiers to the outfits for domestic tasks you do around your base, such as increasing farming yeild, increasing smelting/crafting yeild, reducing building costs or a bonus to the rested bonus you get if you rest while wearing them. But adding a quest with with rewards that mostly have no effect on gameplay is pointless. I don't understand the line of thought here. Hildir's update feels like an in between side project that they made during the mistlands development. Is it a bad update? No. Underwhelming yes, but not bad. As someone who enjoys dungeon crawling getting some minibosses, which can serve as 'bosses' for raids, this update was genuinely fun to just go out and explore the world and take on new challenges. Trophies are gorgeous and I welcome having a use for gold because in the past you'd buy megingjord, some ymir flesh, a few thunder stones, and two chicken eggs and you were done. That's all that benefits you on the main gameplay loop. Maybe the fishing rod but I've not seen many players fish for food. Another thing people overlook is the introduction of world options. Want a more brutal experience? Dial up difficulty, dial down resources and disable portals. Want more chilled cruising? Enable portals to teleport metal (did that. not fun carrying iron up a mountain for base building), lower raid frequencies and up the rate at which you get materials. New music, new hair, new beards (most important part of a viking), upgraded crafting benches improves their radius which is now cylindrical rather than spherical, so building is a tad easier; and the QOL that is chest quick stacking. However, to call it a good update? I'd not really say so. The outfits are nice which could be good for cinematics, events or role play for those who enjoy it. Time to relax and enjoy themselves. Some enjoyable QOL and improvements that make the game a bit more enjoyable. The new features don't really apply to people during their main gameplay and is entirely optional with minimal gameplay impact. It's by no means a bad update, as I personally enjoy it, but it feels kind of shoe-horned in like it was cut from the mistlands, intended to be part of a major update but released on its own. Either way, the ashlands awaits. We'll be getting that soon (tm) since unlike the mistlands the devs actually know what they have in mind for the biome.

World modifiers are something the game was sorely missing been really enjoying doing a moder only run(tears are mandatory for artisan table) and still getting enough iron just from wild scrap piles and oozers for everything up until breaking the towers in the mistlands...using the 3x drop rate and finally being able to just teleport heavy stuff through portals. Making it so you get constantly invaded and it's based on player level and not world level feels fantastic too. I can now use ooze bombs as a main weapon for dealing with deathsquitoes and seekers. In my current world I'm on day 68 only 1 death(got greedy in melee against 3 loxen) already have enough cores to make 3 endgame workbenches. Modifiers for me are 3x loot, normal combat difficulty, casual portals, casual death penalty, maxxed out frequency of raids and raids based on player level. Having those options is just great though :)

5:27 giving stats to clothes items: If they did that someone would complain that the blue tunic should give +1 to fishing not jumping and the red one should give +1 to food, not sneaking. People will never be happy and take any opportunity to try and sound like they are smart by explaining why the above stats I mentioned, make perfect sense. Every update should be as small and insignificant as possible. Don't agree? Ever play World of Warcraft? They RUINED that game by trying to appease everyone that cried about anything. Game devs should IGNORE 99% of what people complain about as they are only complaining for attention (of one variety or another.) Personally, I love the game the way it is and I hope they change nothing. Ashlands? I don't care. I don't need any changes to keep playing this game. Generally, people have lost the ability to pay attention.

Try sneaking in a red outfit. I know you were just pulling examples from the ether, but seriously. Sneaking in red makes zero sense, and YOU are the 99% that should be ignored.

I really hope they continue adding more helpful features in the future. I'm still hoping to see things in the base game like: - sort button for inventory/containers - shift + e to instant fill fires, smelters, kilns, etc - blast furnace takes all ores, not just black metal - quantity input for crafting - crafting filters for item categories - crafting search bar - trash button to discard unwanted items - scrap items at work benches for materials - one click repair all at work benches - equipment slots - quick slots for action items like food/mead - equipable quiver with arrow slots - dverger circlet as a utility item - compass that shows map markers - less janky ladders with proper step animation - vertical (slope) directional attacks - max health/stamina only start to deplete once the food icon is blinking - destination selection for portal frames - tamed wolves can go through portals

I've been holding off on playing a for this update cuz of the preset options the ability to make it where you can teleport all items is essential to me currently I just load into a different world drop stuff off load back teleport into the second world picked up and load back again I understand the teleporting iron and stuff like that is a law reason but still most people don't know about that and it's kind of stupid that you can't by default you can't teleport with iron ingots and or but you can with weapons and armor why

Im disappointed in this update simply because i never see myself wearing clothes just for the sake of them beings clothes. In my opinion it was a waste of time for the animators. Like they could have created customization options for every tier of armor and ship sails kinda like the shield paint jobs. But they gave us dresses... Sure hope traders eventually offer bounty locations for gold or something. These new boss zones are the only good thing about it in my book
@WoodenWizard Жыл бұрын
weird to be fixated on the dresses. you don’t have to use them, so just play how you want and learn to appreciate what others like about the update

Gold should also let you buy certain ressources and or meals (not ALL of them but many, yes even good ones) which will burn through gold for a casual player and indirectly make it more meaningful, a bunch of garbage cosmetics isn't cutting it - also maybe a couple no durability items like building hammers, gathering tools, garden hoe, infinite fishing lure, infinite TORCHES etc. (for a high price ofc or X amount of boss heads + gold or something)

Yeah I agree, the new clothes should have parks or stats attached to them, such as blacksmith clothes(T1 = 5% reduced materials for crafting armor, T2 10%, T3 =15% for example. We would have so many more uses for these new clothes such as builders clothes, farmers clothes, weaponsmith clothes, potion brewing clothes etc etc. This update has taken ages and I just feel more effort went into making this update than was needed and if they had these developers working on the ashlands we would have a whole lot more content instead. Also, where is the ship update? Wasn't that in the roadmap ages ago? The shear amount of sales this game has had on steam alone surely would have been enough to hire a butt ton more developers/designers to get this game completed by now... Its frustrating cause I love this game, I really do, I just feel like they are dragging their heels a little..

My gripe is still with the previous Mistlands update, magic introduced as an end game mechanic... should begin at start with basic magic and grow into greater magic?
@Omgbbqhaxlolol Жыл бұрын
Negative. That's not what Irongate wants. They PURPOSELY don't want us to have magic early. They want magic to be powerful, and as a result it takes time to get to it. Besides, how would it make sense that you get magic before you can build with stone? You're supposed to be a real life viking, dropped into a new world, where you discover things like magic, so starting with it would break the lore. I personally think they can easily expand on magics, and given how in the past we've had retroactive updates for the Swamp and Mountains, I'd say it's safe to assume they will eventually do so. I do, however agree with you on 1 point, we should have some sort of introductory magic, maybe something you get within the mountain caves, learning a tome from the cultists to do their fire slash or whatever. There's TONS of options for them to expand on, but full blown magic in the beginning of the game would be kind of busted. Especially given that everything you'll fight until the swamp is weak is fire, and that's usually what people consider introductory magic.

Honestly, has there been a single update the players haven’t raged over? At this point, every update has had many fantastic features, and like two flawed ones. People are always going to screech about the two flawed ones, even though everything else is great. Valheim players can be a real pain the rear.

The real problem is the different types of Valheim players. This update will please most of them, if not all. Then again, some players just like to complain about anything. Noise makers.

It would have been nice if they allowed you to increase inventory space. When grinding for resources those slots fill up quick.
@WoodenWizard Жыл бұрын
Overplayed complaint. If a player runs out of inventory, its on the player’s lack of inventory management skills. Give that same player more inventory and they will fill it up just as fast. What you really want is either infinite inventory or god mode all the time.
@1877wf Жыл бұрын
@WoodenWizard You may have misunderstood my comment. I'm simply saying it would be cool if they implemented a inventory upgrade like a backpack that could be either bought from the trader or crafted or found in the open world. Sort of like the Megingjord belt to increase carry weight. Same concept
@WoodenWizard Жыл бұрын
@@1877wf I understood you, and your idea is as old as the oldest minecraft mods. The game has solutions for inventory already (carts and chests and portals). My point remains true, that if you increase inventory in any form, that only give you more time to fill it all up, which in turn will take more time to sort. It does nothing to improve inventory management, which is a skill the player needs to develop. If you play this out in your mind, you’ll see I am right. Ive played thousands of hours of modded Minecraft with a backpack mod and this is the conclusion I came to. Too bad improving inventory management is not a measurable skill in the game like all the other skills.

Thanks Firespark. The QOL fixes are great, though I feel like the modders have done so many already, eg farming. Are eggs worth that much before the black marble cooking station? Seems kinda meh. Clothes for clothes sake is also a bit meh, with no stats or anything on them.

As the traditional dungeons are only accessible via movement to their location thus making local physical terrain obsolete in relation to the dungeons' spawn space I have to wonder why any of these dungeons spawn in with so many immediate dead ends. I get procedural generation but I also understand setting spawn minimums and after a swamp with 7 Crypts of which 5 had 2 immediate dead ends and 1 had all 3 blocked with only yellow mushrooms to be extracted the amount of time and resources put into the iron extraction there was not worth it. This game simply needs greater minimum spawn sizes for their dungeons. I don't know how many of you ever played Everquest and know of Guk and Lower Guk but Valheim dungeons need more sizeable dungeons like that where a pack of Vikings could put an hour into the exploration and clearing of the whole thing instead of 3 minutes swinging a Stagbreaker.

To be fair...there could have been so many better offerings from Hildir for the work. More recipes could have been sold. Rare, Epic, Legendary recipes of the same items we make now could have been sold to us. Materials to craft those items could be sold to us. For the size of the studio this game is truly amazing and enjoyable but this update is seriously lacking in content as they could have negotiated for so many of the Most Used mods for their game and incorporated them for improving the quality of life far more than Hildir did.

Sounds like a nice QOL update, but I do hope they add some bonuses to the new gear. Maybe just faster wood cutting, faster or cheaper cooking, I dunno, something. How many players actually just roleplay? Those players could still use the gear for roleplay, but I assume many, many more folks play for progression.
@msarilyn7677 Жыл бұрын
It's not that Hildir's is a bad update, in fact it is a good one. The problem is that it not marketed toward what the playerbase wants, things like Ashlands and Siege Warfare.
@fortnitesexman11 ай бұрын
how is it not a bad update? it adds dungeons with poorly designed mini bosses - wolf dude being unable to make it up the little rock at the base of the cave, and dungeons generally being a terrible place to put a mini boss in due to the lack of space with loot that's completely useless ontop of taking AGES to get to hildir because they decided having fun is illegal and made them non portalable in my book a good update is one that expands upon and or improves the experience this doesn't expand upon and or improve the experience, it actively wastes your time and distracts you from playing the actual game with every second you spend humoring it's existence
