Loved what you said what you said about "not being smart enough". I was a tennis player in college, did okay in classes... was more focused on sport/ girls/ frat life. Never thought I'd be "smart enough" to go into the medical field. After college I worked a real job, then realized this could be the rest of my life. Having that experience of a real job was the most humbling thing that could have ever happened to me. I decided to go back to school, with a crazy goal to become doctor. Did an hour commute to a bankrupt city to take my biology prerequisites for dental school. The school was in a ghetto location (you could see needles on the ground of the school parking lot). People laughed at me for being the "old guy" in the class, but the struggle made the journey so much better. I'm 1 year out from graduating dental school (my dream school), and hope to go to residency afterwards!

I went through a similar thing. I always just assumed I wasn't good at school or good enough to go into any kind of medical field. I really just lacked a lot of confidence and didn't try enough. I worked way too many years of retail and useless office work that I didn't feel good about at all before I finally decided to go into nursing. I remember telling my BFF, and I was so afraid to tell people because I had never done anything science related or been "good" at math and science back in high school. She was just like ok...you could totally become a nurse. You should do that. She was just so casual and confident about it, like why wouldn't you? So that's what I had to start telling myself- why shouldn't I? I thought the same as your brother, like I have the opportunity to go back to school, there are tons of nursing schools here, I work full time and can even save the money, I can afford to take the pre-reqs...why not give it a go? I am in the exact same situation! I'm 21, just started my first post-grad corporate job after getting a business degree, and I'm absolutely miserable and have been doing all the same research. It's how I got to this video actually!

Haha I did something similar in my old job! I was 3 months in and got a late acceptance letter to medical school. I quit that day, moved from San Diego to San Francisco in 2 days and started my first year of medical school 4 days late haha. I have a feeling that corporation was just fine with me dipping so fast..

I’m going into nursing next year. Fall semester. I’m 27 right now. I’d be 31 by the time I get my BSN. I want eventually become and anesthesiologist I didn’t know I had to become an MD to become one and I’m terrified at the thought of being 32 and barley starting med school. Literally terrified.

I’ve been following your page for about a year now and I can’t believe how similar we are… I was an economics major, on a club rowing team, didn’t think I was that great at school, got my degree by 21 and the following summer I decided to pursue medicine… I did three full semesters with classes over the summer, took my MCAT and got into medical school by 24… and now I’m interested in either diagnostic or interventional radiology!

Hi! I am also an ECON major. I’m trying to do the same thing and I was wondering if you are currently in a post Bacc pre med program or are you taking pre med classes at a community college? Can you explain more about your route? Please tell me a less expensive university/college to complete my pre-requisites?

this video resonates with me so much honestly. I recently graduated from college and I've always had an interest in medicine which is why I majored in heath sciences. From listening to your past and hearing your story I genuinely feel confident to fully pursue working in medicine. Thanks Dr. Cellini

Im almost graduated from a political science major, due to depression and working at the uni’s orchestra I just did what I like. Now, I decided that law school or public administration is not what I want to do and I am going to take next fall term some of the courses I need to enter to the physical therapist doctorate. It is going to be expensive because of how long it took me to decide but all I want to do is what makes me Happy.

You know what i feel the same way. I just feel medicine is my route. My dad has been working as a engineer for 30+ years now. He even says himself he wishes he could have done something else. I have also witnessed many stressful things that he has to go through day in and day out just to take care of my family. And that idea of just working like that so hard for a corporation is just not for me. I feel like it would be so much rewarding and not as boring so I am leaning towards medicine now as a premed in college.

Just discovered your channel, I appreciate this video. I have been working in a corporate job since I was 16 and im currently in community college at the age of 20, and I swear ive switched my major many times. Ive always wanted to do something medical but I didnt think I could starting college a little bit late, but I am stuck in the same situation being so drained just sitting behind a desk. Thanks for the motivation.

Very similar experience I had a desk job in the navy very mundane same thing everyday and decided no way I want to live my life like this. What killed me the most was I wanted to enter school full time 2years after the navy but a contract still kept me in til 24 but took some classes when I could. Now I’m a third year pre-med hopefully I will excel with all my courses til the end. If not I’m definitely gonna consider being an officer though regardless I’m glad I got the motivation to go to school. If I didn’t take that chance I’d have missed out on great knowledge and just what i’m capable of. Though gotta say glad I saw this video even if it was a year later! Great motivation.

Thank you so much for this video. People act like to succeed in medicine you need to know you want to do medicine years before college and need to be very confident. I’ve only realised I want to do medicine at the very end of high school and have struggled with confidence thinking I’m not smart enough to be a doctor.

I have always been a successful student and excelled in my studies. I used to see myself as a doctor, and all my professors saw me as a doctor. Unfortunately, in the baccalaureate year, I was subjected to severe pressures and was not able to pass my exams as I used to. Today, I am studying engineering. Thanks God for every thing. But unfortunately I suffer from depression since then. I am studying engineering and I am sure that I am not an engineer, and that one day I will be a doctor. And I will. Today I fight for success in engineering. And my hatred for what I study hinders me. But after graduating and getting a job, I will work to save money to enter medical school and achieve my dream. And I will become a doctor as I always dreamed of.
