My unwoke opinion is that Shakespeare shouldn't be replaced with Indigenous authors. I'm in Ontario, and my school is replacing our English course with a new one that doesn't include Shakespeare. I think it's dumb, we already read books by Indigenous authors and Shakespeare is still relevant. His beliefs are outdated, and I think having that in an English class can bring opportunity to discuss why they are wrong instead of dismissing them entirely

I actually disagree considering I've taken that class, and its only a substitute for 1 of 4 high school english classes, 2 of which definitely teach Shakespeare. I personally think thats more than enough as Shakespeare is historically very important but his narratives and play writing techniques are not exclusive to him and can be examined through the work of other authors. Those techniques and narrative elements are whats important to english class, not the historical significance. More than that, I think the contemporary indigenous literature course was eye-opening and immensely helpful in gaining perspective and understanding the indigenous people of our country in a more intimate way than in history class. It can't be understated how valuable it is, at least to me. I mean the dichotomy of wanting your land and culture but settling and accepting the fact that it won't happen is fascinating. This class plants a seed thats nourished by your curiosity, and will grow into better understanding the country you live. This is so important, considering Canadians barely know their own history and politics.

unwoke opinion: censorship does more harm than it does good, and if you claim to enjoy freedom of speech, then that should extend to people saying things that you don't like. you're allowed to argue and not like that person because freedom of speech is not the same thing as freedom from SOCIAL persecution, but that doesn't mean, necessarily, that that person should be censored because that means that you could also be censored if the opposite person were to gain that power. people having the freedom to openly say and do what they want as long as they aren't harming someone gives more options to EVERYONE than people only being able to say and do what the majority agree with. people having the freedom to express themselves also gives you a decent insight on what kind of person they are by what they choose to do with that freedom, which gives more opportunity to hand pick your social circle by knowing that most people probably aren't faking their values out of obligation.

i think the legalization of weed is more to do with the double standard of alcohol being readily accessible for recreational use, and weed being demonized. while for some people it can be bad for productivity and mental health, its immensely less destructive to the body than alcohol, and less likely to be related to instances of DV. i think that large scale legalization and harm reduction programs should be pushed, but under reasonable regulations, and without predatory advertising. idk thats my two cents

I don't personally see anything wrong with smoking a joint or something as long as you can still function normally and aren't lashing out at people out of the blue. Grandmother actually uses it for her arthritis. Though I'm not denying that there are definitely side affects, I've had friends whove had terrible dependencies on pot but that doesn't mean that it changes your personality. From that way you're descriding it, either your friend was already going threw something terrible or was mixing his substances. I've known people to get angry easily after they've been using it for years and abruptly stopped, Even after a week or so those symptoms should be gone and usually show up in extreme cases. my unwoke opinion is about schools. my high school used to have so many ap classes you could choose to study, and now they hardly have any. same thing with other advanced classes. the reason for this was because they “didnt want to exclude those who have difficulties learning.” So all the classes have to dumb down their curriculum so kids can even pass, while kids who are passionate about school/learning are not in an environment where they can be challenged, and then face problems with harder classes in the future. I just dont understand why we cant offer higher level courses for higher level kids, instead of keeping every class the same. I’m in 9th grade, and I wanted to take ap biology next year, but my school is considering not offering it. enriched progams are also insanely underfunded. and what i mean by dumbing down classes is half of the kids in my english class can’t stucture an essay properly, but instead of teaching that, our teacher hands out worksheets on how to use commas. im not even joking. like dawg weve BEEN knowing how to do that 💀. how about instead of having one class that accommodates to a lower level by default, we bring back enriched classes and accommodate to kids’ NEEDS so they can be successful! it really doesnt seem that hard.

@@ambrosesky that’s the point… they should offer classes at a variety of levels. “dumbing down” general curriculum won’t help people who are truly behind. also you’re insane if you think kids shouldn’t have access to AP Classes. I think AP Bio should be a required class, it helped me understand so many thugs about the world and about the genetic argument for trans people (and why chromosomes = sex is a LIE and an oversimplification). a more personalized education makes it more accessible for kids with disabilities and those that need a challenge. Being disabled myself, I have done better in challenging classes than easy classes, because when nothing is difficult and I am bored out of my mind, I don’t feel any motivation to do the work and end up with missing assignments. School SHOULD be challenging because kids should be growing as a result of school. You can’t put every kid’s education on pause because a few are illiterate. you cater to them separately so they can get the full attention they need, and simultaneously help them without taking opportunities away from everyone else.

I have one that a lot of people wont agree with. Scholarships should be based less on personal identity and more on household income/major. I'm an art major in need of scholarships, but because I'm middle class and not low income, a minority, a first-generation college student, etc., I don't meet the criteria for so many scholarships. It fails to take into account personal situations. For example, while my household income is 100,000 a year, my parents are going through a divorce, and the money my father has needs to be split. It's so unfair to me. I do understand the need for scholarships to target certain ethnicities and situations, but it's becoming so inclusive that it is now exclusive.

You're literally just advocating for a gun license which is exactly what the UK has. The UK hasn't fully banned guns, same with many countries.
