Something my hubby and I did at our wedding was right after the ceremony we went to a private room and we ate our dinner. So glad we did this because we got to relax, take in the moment that we had gotten married and assured that we actually ate something!

I’ve been married for 3 1/2 years and I loved majority of our wedding day! We asked our officiant to announce no phones at our ceremony which I definitely recommend to do. Tips I have. -no phones at ceremony.(ask your officiant to announce that before wedding begins). -pay for the videographer(just do it) -don’t have have a certain amount of bridesmaids for the pictures. I promise you’ll thank me later! (Less drama) - a wedding day coordinator is a must!!! - don’t think you can do everything yourself, it adds up. - have your wedding later than 3. We had our wedding at 4:30 and everyone was so relaxed & didn’t rush getting ready! I see so many tired brides. -My phone was not with me on my wedding day and I’m so glad! You don’t need to capture everything on your phone. That’s why you have professionals there. - if you usually don’t wear a lot of makeup it might not be a good idea to just slap on a whole new look on your wedding day. Do what your used to but obviously something that makes you feel beautiful! -unless your not easily influenced, go dress shopping with just your mom/close friend or by yourself. Also you don’t need to show people your wedding dress unless you want to. If you love it that’s all that matters. -don’t forget about late night snacks if you’re going to be dancing all night! We asked for a few pizzas and other appetizers around 9pm! -just pay for the extra help. We decided to have a longer engagement because of wanting to pay for extra help( setting up the wedding,someone to pick up the cake,venue to clean up,etc). None of our family members had to touch anything! And we don’t come from money fyi. We worked out bootys off to pay for our own wedding in cash. It’s just worth it in the end, everyone is relaxed and ready to enjoy the day! I’m sure I can think of more but hope this helps!🥰😀

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion but as a bride-to-be myself I feel like there is too much pressure on the weddings nowadays! It becomes a "must be perfect day" and people get so focused on getting perfect insta pictures instead of actually making it an enjoyable celebration of love! My dear brides, relax! ❤ you don't have to be perfect for one day ;)

Yes!! I told my loved ones that I’m not stressed about the wedding day bc in my mind, it’s a big dinner party with everyone I love. And then they start listing things they want me to have and tell me that they’re stressed for me. I say I’m a budget bride and they mention: videographers, $7 cake slices, flowers (I don’t care for flowers), person vallets for the guests?, caterers instead of buffet style, wedding planners bc they don’t think I can do it, etc etc. I’d be stress for me too if I planned on getting everything Instagram/friends tells me I “need” 😅 My expectations seems to be a lot lower than what’s expected of me

Yes I am a bride to be as well! I stressed for months and had so much anxiety on money and making the day perfect, and me and my fiancé finalized on only having immediate family and getting married in my grandparents back yard! I finally feel excited for the big day and am looking forward to it! There’s way too much pressure nowadays surrounding perfection!

Love this! We saved SO MUCH money (like $5000) by doing our own flowers!!! (just went to a local wholesale florist and got everything for $200) The main thing I would tell a bride is to stay focused on preparing for marriage and not just planning a wedding!!! xoxxo

Very true! My mother is an event florist and if you can afford a rockstar to do your flowers it can be worth it. But if you can’t don’t sweat it! If you don’t have a wholesale floral supply near by grocer pre-maid bouquets can be a good option as well (Trader Joes usually has good selections).

I thought it was so funny when you mentioned your hair, I’m not even kidding - I always thought your hair looked soo good in your wedding pictures and your wedding video. Like it does look different to the way you usually style it, but I always thought it suited the style of your wedding so so well and was wanted that way. And it was always something I’ve noticed as something i really liked about your look that day. I guess that just shows that even the things that went “wrong” or things you might stress about are things that other people don’t notice as something being “wrong“ whatsoever.

Best piece of advice I was given was to wait a little bit to go on the honeymoon. Other brides I talked to expressed being too overwhelmed and tired after the wedding to fully enjoy the honeymoon. Especially if you’re trying to travel to a different time zone! We stayed in a nice hotel the night of our wedding, then a month later we went on our honeymoon.

My biggest tip would be look for non-conventional venues to save money! Most traditional wedding venues around us cost close to $10,000 for a night 😳, but my husband and I booked a local church camp for a mere $600 for an entire weekend. This included an outdoor chapel for the ceremony, a dining hall for the reception, and a lodge to keep our wedding party overnight. It was STUNNING - directly on a lake at sunset with a chapel in the woods. And since we saved so much on the venue we were able to hire a decorator to spruce the place up (that was worth every penny too - who wants to spend the day after their wedding tearing down decorations and breaking down tables?) Consider places like museums, galleries, Boy Scout lodges, camps, Audubon centers, hotels - you never know what places might save you some serious cash!! Good luck to all my brides out there!! 🥰

My parents separated 1 week before I got engaged and divorced shortly before my wedding. Covid hit and the entire day was canceled and we didn’t get refunded a single penny. We were emotional spent. With no more money to pull it off and after years of family drama, accusations and horrible things said to me from both sides of our families, we decided not to postpone and just make it work. The day was sweet but very rushed and the atmosphere was tense. We exchanged vows in the park and had a little food from Harris teeter back at our apartment. My heart floods with joy for my sweet friends who are getting engaged and having such beautiful weddings but it still brings a sense of bittersweetness in my heart. I longed for a beautiful day, some joy and music after so much hurt and loss and struggle. But if I can give any advice it certainly would be this: invest into your marriage not the wedding day. It’s something I am extremely proud of my husband and I for. We were (and still are) very proactive towards our relationship and we invested a lot into one another. The wedding didn’t really happy but our marriage, though not without its challenges, has been the biggest blessing to my life. Invest into your marriage, invest into one another, keep God at the center and though life may bring its woes you will have set your foundation on solid ground.

@@LiVeUrLiFe3794 Aw thank you! On our wedding day I kept thinking, this is not for my glory but for Gods. It’s been sooo challenging at times and the comparison can get REAL! But I have to remember that this Marriage was dedicated to God for His honor and Glory to be displayed through our marriage. I have a long way to go but if I keep that heart posture it takes the focus off myself and redirects it to God

I'm in a similar position - it's almost been a year since our wedding, I still find myself thinking back, going over regrets, heavy-hearted and wishing some things were different/ planned better. My prayer for us and for people going through similar, is that we will be focused on God's values and what's truly important (the actual marriage), though it's difficult. I have friend's weddings coming up, and I want to be fully happy for them, despite not having it myself. If it pleases God, maybe He'll grant us the release to have a wedding 2.0 in the future, to celebrate an anniversary/ renew vows. God bless you Caitlyn

@@AnitaLoves ❤️❤️ ah I’m so sorry to hear that, but I do so deeply understand. But what you said is so true. And I’m finding that the more time that passes, not that the desire for things to have been different goes away but the deep sorrow and regret is lessening. Almost like I’m forgiving, not necessarily a person but…dose that make sense? Plus I keep reminding myself how truly blessed I am. Sometimes that feels exhausting but it also keeps me humble and drives that horrible attitude of complaining 😶 I also remember anytime my mom referred to her wedding it was in a negative light. There was always something to be brought up about this that or the other. I don’t want to have that attitude with my daughter. I want to focus on the good, what DID happen, and from my experience help her have the wedding of her dreams. Anyway, rant over, haha, thank you for sharing and may the lord bless you and your little family ❤️❤️

All of this is why I went to the courthouse, it took the pressure off of us, it also made it about us, however I do regret not having wedding pictures, or something sweet to look back on type of thing. If I could go back I might do a little hotel wedding thing but still small and just pick a wedding package to make it easy. I’ve never regret not having a huge wedding. I didn’t want all of the stress of planning.

You can take wedding photos with a wedding photographer for just the two of you and get charged a big higher than engagement photos but way cheaper than a wedding day shot. This is what I'm doing this coming May (wedding was 3 years ago)! If you go on Thumbtack there are many freelance photographers who would be more than happy to take the request. Good luck to you!

Girl, I have so many regrets with my wedding too. I can relate completely with feeing stressed/overwhelmed having everyone you know in one place and having to quickly talk/thank them and I literally didn’t have a piece of my cake either. ALSO, crazy but our caterer ended up being a con man (wanted by the FBI) and no showed at my wedding! So LAST minute, my family’s friend found a local restaurant that provided food last minute for us. I didn’t find out till after we took photos and ended up bawling. YES for the wedding coordinator! I planned my whole wedding, but then hired this amazing person to take the wheel from the day BEFORE the wedding and the actual day. It gave me the freedom to soak in the moment, to be with friends and family, have a sound sleep and actually enjoy every moment of the wedding day. I didnt have a single worry about the guests or where the cake is, or whats supposed to happen next, what time is it etc. She just came up and calmly asked - "are you ready for your first dance? " when it was time. (I have our wedding video on my channel, if interested haha)

Wedding tip: Have a spreadsheet of the entire day from start to finish. I had one with the times, when and where people needed to be, songs playing during the ceremony, food. Everything. And we gave out a copy to everyone involved. It took away any stress of answering questions about where people needed to be or what they were doing. It was a HUGE lifesaver. I had a couple friends who did it before me and shared what they did. It was amazing!!! And we started it early on in our planning and added details when we had our concrete plans. One regret I had was my hair too. One of my friends did it and don't get me wrong, it was very beautiful (it was like a braided crown with the rest of my hair down) but I have such thin hair, so the braid took most of my hair. I wish I would have had extensions or something so that it was more full....and my hair refused to curl that morning 😂🙈

I didn’t find out until after my wedding that the lady who was supposed to make our cake got the date wrong so I would have had no cake had it not been for my amazing wedding coordinator who ran to Publix and demanded a cake 😅 I’ve been married almost 6 years, I think it’s so normal to look back and have so many things we’d do differently now, even though we absolutely loved the day! I think looking back the biggest thing I would change would be to have a more smaller & intimate wedding, there were people at my wedding who (sounds so harsh) that I honestly shouldn’t have invited. And like you I wish I focused more on family photos!

I loved this video so much Kristen!! I'm a certified Wedding Planner and I'm really surprised you WP didn't check and/or cover the cultery + seating chart issues. The WP is usually responsible for checking these things before the Big Day. We have a checklist that we run through beforehand and these two things are always covered. Sometimes accidents do happen though hehe! We always bring an emergency makeup bag for touch-ups too, that is so important right! I'm not judging, just observing the situation. I find it interesting that the WP didn't cover these things. Maybe WP training is different in the USA! xxxx

Tips I have: 1- make a note to your photographer of photos you want 2- doing a “first look” is definitely worth it because you can do that then all your photos BEFORE the ceremony and you can have a special moment with your s/o when they first see you! 3- if you can afford it, a band is way more fun than a DJ! Something about live music gets everyone on the dance floor

I don’t really have too many regrets or anything that went wrong because it was smaller, I’m so glad we did it the way we did. One small regret was not going wedding dress shopping to try on multiple dresses (I just ordered one from the dress shop without ever trying it on lol) My other regret is not doing a wedding video. When I was planning, I didn’t think I cared about the video but now I wish I had it to look back on. We also didn’t take engagement photos and I wish we would of done that too.

Do final hair trial, she did not put enough product for hold and volume 4. Set boundaries with your time so you can enjoy the moment 5. Have a touch up bag with her

I got married in August of 2021. I don’t regret much but I do have some regrets… Things I liked that I recommend: We asked the officiant to announce that it was going to be a no phone ceremony. It was great because it kind of scared people into actually putting their phones away. I did a first look with my dad and now husband and I loved that! After our first look we got to take all of our pictures with the bridal party and also me and my husband’s pictures! High recommend taking pictures before the ceremony. I regret not getting more pics with family as well. I got enough of my dad and sister and my daughter… but now going through the pics I have none with my son from the wedding day and I’m so mad about that. No one stood as I was walking down the aisle because my mom wasn’t there to lead everyone to stand. I don’t blame her because she was battling cancer and couldn’t make it unfortunately. The only good thing to come from no one standing was that my sister could get a good video of me walking for my mom.

Pretty soon after my husband and my wedding, I journaled all the blessings the Lord had done on that special day. I truly felt His hand over the day and our marriage. I also journaled a few things that went wrong-things that I either laugh about now and things I wish I could go back and change. The biggest thing I wish I would have done was to put a reserved seating sign on the front rows of the ceremony seating. I thought it was common sense that the front rows were for family and not for friends. Sadly some of my family had to sit a row or two back while friends took the front row. The second thing was that our cake was cut into by a few guests before we had cut it! Again, I thought it was common wedding etiquette knowledge, but oh well. So for all the brides to be…reserve the front rows and protect the cake! Haha! Overall, the day was the Lord’s. Thank you Kristin for this video! It’s nice that we can all relate.

My husband and I had a very small wedding! I loved it. It was easy on my side because I only have three cousins but he has an extremely large family 50+ cousins and his mom is a sibling of 12 and his dad is a sibling of 5 so I almost felt pressured to do a large wedding but I said nope! This is about my husband and I coming together under God and I want to enjoy that. So we did immediate family, grandparents and I had my best girlfriend and her husband come and my husbands best friend and his fiancé come. So a total of 17 plus us I believe. I didn’t have any bridesmaids and he didn’t have any groomsmen. We had a homemade dinner, a backyard wedding and were able to just enjoy and be intimate with every single person who we love so dearly! Then three months later in summer we had a reception! And that’s when we invited all our other friends and family. It was a blast and if you can I highly recommend going this route. I think we spent less than 2k on everything, I mean my wedding dress was only 75 bucks from Lulus lol! And it turned out beautiful. Small weddings aren’t for everyone but if you are more minimalist then go for it! Try not to feel the pressure of pleasing everyone because you can’t please every single person. Focus on what will make you and your spouse most happy. Xo

My partner and I have always seen marriage as a special moment to share our love for each other. So we have always wanted to elope, which is what we will do once the time comes, instead of having frinds/family there and then celebrating it another time with everyone if we feel like it :) We don't use social media though so don't feel the need to post our lives etc. (currently 25 and 28 year old). I am glad we don't share on social media so that when it comes to these moments we can keep them sacred between just us two.

Oh and for talking to every guest: Our venue had to present the food buffet style so, there was a line of guests and my husband and I unintentionally started talking to guests as they went through the line (other people were getting us food), we talked to the good majority of our guests. Then the rest we talked to when we needed a break between dancing!!

I work as a wedding photographer, and one thing I've learnt like you mentioned is setting those boundaries with guests is so important. It's taught me that for when the time comes for me to marry, I want the most minimal amount of guests possible, because with so many you can basically end up spending most of the time greeting all your guests rather than being with the person you just married!

I get married in 3 weeks and I am SO stressed. It's a small wedding, but even so we are getting hit with news that person after person who is really important to us cannot be there for one reason or another. We invited 70 people, all our closest friends and family, and so far it looks like about 45 or 50 will be there. We really didn't want it quite that small, I knew to expect some people to not be able to come but I did not expect so many from out inner circle. I don't want to go into the day already disappointed. My plan is to just tune everybody out and focus on my new husband and the journey we are starting. It's just not shaping up to be the day I'd imagined.

I was so excited to see this video as I am getting married in October! I thought it was funny you mentioned regretting hiring a wedding planner - because for us, our wedding planner has been the best decision ever! Our engagement will be about two years in total, and we hired a planner from the start. She has been instrumental in selecting vendors, navigating communications between all the vendors, and has also gotten us some amazingggg insider discounts. Crazy how peoples' experiences can be so varied! Anyways, thanks for all the tips, Kristin! Another great video!

I actually regret having a large ceremony the most. Me and my husband paid for our own wedding and we forgot that we didn’t owe anyone anything. I wouldn’t change our large reception for anything. I was overwhelmed standing in front of so many people that I didn’t take in the moment of making that vow to my husband. I wish I could go back and have a ceremony that was more intimate or even just the two of us, then a large party afterwards!
@de6519
@de6519 2 жыл бұрын
I was going to comment on that. Did your family have an influence on how large your big day was?
@SoMuchAnna
@SoMuchAnna 2 жыл бұрын
@@de6519 both of our families would ask that certain people get added to the list. Technically they left it up to us to say yes or no to all guest requests. But what started out as a simple "sure that family member that we haven't seen in 15 years can come" created kind of a snowball effect. I wanted to keep our families feelings involved, but I wish we would have just sat down and considered if the two of us cared if that person was there, not if our families cared. Especially since they weren't paying for it. A lot of those additions were made prior to our budget being finalized too. So when I realized I was paying several dollars a dinner serving for a guest I barely knew, I started to have some regrets. People often say "more guests, more gifts!" but these are not the kinds of guests that will buy thoughtful gifts and I found were the most likely to purchase off registry.

My husband and I hired a month-of wedding coordinator which I feel like was a really nice happy medium, budget-wise! They helped us with everything the month before the wedding through the day-of and it was AMAZING to be able to pass the responsibility off to them at that time, because it helped me live in the moment (I am super type-A too 😅)

Omg Kristin same thing happened with my hair! I did the same style for my trial & day of but during the trial she did such beautiful soft waves like I asked but on the day did very ringlet-like curls that didn't stay well in my long hair at all! I think they use so much product to try and make it stay all day but it ends up weighing the hair down too much which is disappointing. My favorite thing I did for budget was combing the wedding favor, seat numbers & DJ song request all in one. We had a Photo Booth at our wedding so for our favors I got plastic Photo Booth frames from amazon and then got a download template from Etsy that had each guests name & table number (it was in front of their place setting) and said welcome to our wedding please keep this frame as a favor and reuse this insert to write a song request on the back. It was one of my favorite ideas! Saved a lot of money on favors and table settings. Also Etsy downloads for everything!!

I loved our wedding sooo much! For brides that are reading this really prioritize family pictures day of! We did and I have no regrets because we had family members come from all over the world and on hubbys side they have 8 siblings and they all werent together for almost 10 years. Now it’s not the case for everyone but I think it is important like Kristen said! Another thing is try to eat the moment you can at dinner! Because you won’t have time if you don’t. Something else if you are wearing heels for shoes, have someone have flip flops ready to go for you! Lastly make an itinerary or have a family member make one. This is what saved us when it came to having a huge family and having everyone be on time at location of your choice!

A tip I’ve learned is to have little fold out fans for your guests if you’re having your wedding outdoors during a warmer time of year. It can be really miserable to sit out in the heat, especially for older folks, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people rummaging through their purses for a piece of paper to fan themselves. I feel like that’s something I never would’ve thought of unless I had seen someone else do it before!

I have seen so many of these kinds of videos and everyone always feels the same way about not enjoying the moment or having a relaxing moment during the reception. So many didn’t eat or enjoy the food they paid for. I think the solution is to have a small wedding. Seriously only super close friends and family and if you know a ton of people have a fun sort of causal celebration party that’s not a wedding where you can chat and take pictures all night . I’m sure that not realistic for some people but that’s just my take. If I ever marry, Lord willing, I will have a small wedding

ugh i hate having regrets but i do tend to look back on the moments i wish i could change. Some things id change is getting two photographers instead of one, getting ready at the venue (i was late to my own wedding), communicating more with my bridesmaids about attire, hired someone to write down my guest list board instead of typing it up, telling my photographer that i need more one on one photos with my husband, saying our vows to one another in private instead of in front of everyone (the nerves were real haha), taking off my flower crown and finally doing my own hair and makeup.
