#1) The laughter is a dead giveaway that every word of this "skit" is 100% accurate. #2) This was absolutely a "hint" Penn, flowers (get the bear), dinner, card (not handmade), take notes you've got five days. Good luck. 👍

I usually am low maintenance about gifts but for our tenth anniversary I was kind of lamenting that we always have to plan our gifts to each other (usually out of a kindness to our budget) but sometimes i’m sad he just doesn’t ever surprise me with gifts. He then proceeded to pull out a ring box with a beautiful tenth anniversary diamond ring. I have never been so delighted and so sheepish at the same time!

Being married for almost 17 years now we stopped “buying” things about 7 years ago. We do go out for an awesome dinner each year, just around the date and not on V-day. We love each other and try to express it daily, no holiday needed. 😊

yep! we're 30 years in and stopped with all the "extra" stuff a long long time ago. I like to get flowers once in a while but never ever on Valentine's or Mother's day when prices get jacked up for no reason. It actually feels better to get them on a day they aren't expected.

I love the giggling in the background! Every one of your videos just makes my day so much better.😊 My husband and I have been married almost 40 years and Valentine’s Day has been a non-event for a long time, and that’s perfectly fine with me. He travels for business so a lot of years (like this year) he’s not even home. We actually don’t give gifts for most occasions (birthday, anniversary) - we decided a few years ago that we had enough stuff, and we use the money on experiencias instead. We take a trip every year for our anniversary, and have made some wonderful memories. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤

I haven't laughed this hard in sooo long! We don't celebrate 🙄 My husband says it's commercial holiday. Which.. I agree. However, I am a huge romantic at heart and would just like the cute fun things (NOT go in debt) So now I just celebrate with my kids getting them little candies, books, a homemade valentine punch to drink etc. One year I decorated each kid's door with valentine wrapping paper and wrote 5 things I loved about each kid on it. It feels sooo good to celebrate love even if it's not romantic. Happy V day Kim and Penn!!

That was hilarious! My wife is the exact same way as Kim! She always says "Don't get me anything for Valentine's Day" or says she wants just a card. But if I don't get her anything more than a card she acts very disappointed, even though she claims she's not. So every year I get her a big bouquet of flowers and she is thrilled even as she chastises me for "spending too much money." Women are interesting creatures.

My husband and I have never done gifts or cards for Valentine's Day. Our tradition is to spend time in the card aisle picking out the card we would buy for each other, sharing it there and then putting it back. My friends think we're nuts, but it's so much fun as it comes with a "right of refusal, must do over" rule. I used to be a store manager at a pharmacy and after years of watching folks come in at the last minute in a panic to get something so their significant wouldn't be mad made me never want to put that pressure on him. Thanks for your videos--y'all are the jam! :)

Absolutely HILARIOUS… Between my SO and me, it’s exactly the opposite. He keeps saying he doesn’t do Valentine’s and doesn’t want to exchange gifts… and then gets me one. Same with Saint Nicholas which is a big thing in Belgium and The Netherlands (depending where you’re from, December 5th or 6th gifts are exchanged). This year is going to be tough: I’ve just had spinal surgery and am not allowed to drive. I’ve roped my in-home carer to get something for him when she goes to do my grocery shopping for me. He loves abbey-style beers and she’s swinging by the local brewery to pick up a limited edition with matching glass. I’ve already paid for it, it’s the best I can do right now. He’s the best man I could ever dream of having and despite what he says this year he is getting that gift.

I feel like sometimes if someone is very anxious and doesn't like upsetting people they'll try to be as low maintenance as possible and say they don't need or want anything because they feel like they can't ask for something. This was hilarious! I’ve just accepted the fact that my husband can’t read my mind. I think Valentine’s Day is a great reminder that we need that special focused time together as a couple. We discussed and planned Valentine’s Day together ahead of time this year-and decided to do something we both enjoy: going out to breakfast and a hike. Not to mention-hiking is free, breakfast gets us up early to enjoy the rest of the day, and breakfast is usually less expensive than dinner! I actually prefer breakfast over dinner anyways though. It was a wonderful romantic morning. ❤

My first husband splashed out on public displays on Valentine's Day so everyone else was all, "Oh, he's a keeper!" But he treated me like crap when we were alone. So I have no interest in observing the holiday. But I'm lucky to have a guy now who always treats me well, every day of the year. That's so much better. I also have explained to him my varied but specific reasons for not being a huge fan of fresh flowers as a romantic gesture, and he's allergic to everything, so he knows I'm not going to get passive-aggressive about it. It may help that we're both autistic and have no trouble communicating pragmatically without playing silly headgames about what we need, want, and expect.

Way back when we were about 7 or 8 years married one of us was going through chemotherapy. We had 2 small children. There was absolutely no money for anything including barely paying bills. Valentine's Day was coming up & we agreed that instead of feeling pressure to give cards, gifts, flowers, etcetera we'd simply acknowledge the day by wishing each other Happy Valentine's & leave it at that especially since we had no money. That & the fact this was one of the many holidays spent in the hospital. It's been many years since then & we have labeled Valentine's Day a Hallmark holiday which we always simply acknowledge the day & have zero expectations. It's worked out so well & no one is upset because no one is disappointed.

The last 3 valentine's days my husband has had to work. Go Army! However in 15 + yrs I have found expressing my gratitude and recognizing all he DOES do daily and not stressing over the things has no control over keeps the passive aggression away. Lol🤣 He does still try to get me gifts, but when I get them, it's like. "Flowers, yay, something to water and add to my to do list. Or you're making dinner? Another MRE meal yum! He does try other gifts, but clothing sizes and gadgets he likes don't always go so well. The best gift is him putting the kids to bed early (3 kids 10 and under) and then watching a show I want to watch with me. ( My love language is time together) A gift he likes, being an introvert, is alone time, time to decompress from the day. Lol.

It's a celebration as it was the day we were married...47 years this year. We usually go out to dinner, my arrangements. I usually go shopping for myself, as I know what I like and want, then thank him for whatever I bought myself. LOL It's just another day really. We say we love each other every day, often, so it's hard to think of it just being celebrated one day a year instead of every day of the year!

Growing up, we had a family tradition that mom would make meatloaf in a heart shaped cake pan for Valentine's Day dinner and write something sweet or doodle hearts etc. on top in ketchup. Kinda an odd tradition but we loved it. (BTW, no one particularly likes meatloaf that much, so we rarely had it. Just for Valentines Day for some reason). Cards and gifts had to be smuggled to the kitchen table by midnight on the 13th so they would be there for breakfast.

You guys SLAY me!!🤣🤣 You never disappoint and btw this is SO spot on it's hilarious! We say we don't want flowers because let's be real, they die fast, they are ridiculously expensive, especially around Valentine's Day..but when you get them anyways..we are THRILLED! My fiance has learned that even when I say I don't want anything..deep down I really do. Lol Even if it's not extravagant flowers or something expensive. I'm happy with a cheap bouquet from Trader Joes and some of my favorite chocolate or a nice card. Oh, and a foot massage of course!😝 It's the thought that counts..the fact that they spent the time to get you something regardless of what you said! Us women can be so confusing lol. I confuse myself sometimes!🤣🤣 Hope you two have a wonderful Valentine's Day! Also just a side note.. as far as flowers go..any day of the year, flowers are a super sweet surprise and way cheaper than for Valentine's Day! Lol the fact that it's unexpected makes it extra special..but we still want something that shows you care on ❤Day!😝 Also, I know this skit is exaggerated but that's what makes it so great and funny! You two are too much fun!🥰

yes! a couple weeks ago my husband sent me a text with a picture of 2 little bags of chips he got from the vending machine at work. It was a flavor I used to love but haven't been sold in the US for over a decade and they were now bringing them back. It felt like 10 Christmases all at once and it was just a random Tuesday. That's the real right there. He knew I was so bummed when they stopped selling them years ago so he wanted to surprise me but he was excited and couldn't wait so he texted me the picture. Even after 30+ years, I love this man so much because of all the non holiday moments like these.

We don't but we also forget about it. It has been 21 years together and we have remembered three times. Years 1, 2, and 4. He brings me spring flowers when they start blooming and that makes me so happy, and sneezy.

Penn did such a great job doing Kim's "voice". He had her inflections and her specific way of saying some words down pat, as well as her gestures and facial expressions. Obviously he does pay attention when she talks to him... sometimes! The only thing that could have made this skit better is if the Midwest Neighbor came over to brag about the flowers/gifts her husband got her and how they were going out to dinner later.

We stopped buying each other Valentine's Day/Sweetest Day gifts after the first few years of marriage. It just seemed silly that THOSE are the days you are supposed to tell/show someone you love them. I'd rather hear that/say that/do that, on a day that hasn't been dictated to me. Sometimes, my husband will come home with something, BUT, here is my point. My guy does stuff for me all year. He will bring home special treats/gifts for me at different times throughout the whole year. I do the same for him, and it makes it FUN, not a "task to be completed on Feb. 14th". I appreciate that showing of love more than a few days a year when card/flower/candy companies say, "Go spend money because, if you don't, you don't love your gf/bf/so/spouse". Since we've just had our 45th wedding anniversary, it's worked for us. No passive-aggressive here, but thanks for the laugh! Now Kim, what do YOU do for Penn on Valentine's Day? It takes two to tango...

0:15 "just write a letter" translation, spend $ on a good gift. LOL@printer paper, would have done the same ahahhaa. I heard this line a lot "oh don't waste the $ on flowers" later... *woman mad at just a letter* 3:20 too accurate with the micro aggressions. spot on+ 4:00 This man selected his wife wisely. All jokes aside, they are a good combo.

A few years back my equivalent half got me flowers. From the grocery store. Which I found lying on the counter, not in water, two hours after same arrived home and settled in front of the computer. We're still married, but gifts like that lend a lot of sincerity to the annual , "no, really, DON'T get me anything, honey." :)

Hi Penn and Kim, you two are adorable and I like your videos! As my two cents re not getting passive-aggressive about disappointment on Valentine’s Day, I think it’s a bigger question about holidays in general. When I’m not celebrating a holiday with family, I’ll tend to shrug them off and not decorate or plan anything special to celebrate (like Kim saying she doesn’t want anything for Valentine’s Day) but then on the day I’ll be sorta disappointed and my life will be that much more meh over time. This year, I’m picking a few holidays a month to actually do something festive for, even if it’s small or silly or arbitrary, to have more festivity in my life! Planning ahead and finding ways to actually make special days special - even if we don’t ‘really need’ anything to be special - is being good to our future selves! 🎉 So, stop saying you don’t want anything special for Valentine’s Day; you just made a whole video about how you already know that future-you actually will, so be nice to her!

Omg I FEEL THIS 😂😂. My first Valentine’s Day with my husband, he asked what my expectations were and I didn’t really give much info and said I was low maintenance, assuming he would know at an absolute minimum he should get a sweet card and maybe a small gift. So I show up with a basket of homemade cookies, a book with 100 reasons that he’s awesome, a mix CD, and a few other goodies and he had…NOTHING. Then we went to the dive bar across the street and he sang karaoke to Lonely Island (I’m on a Boat). 🤦🏼‍♀️😂🤦🏼‍♀️😂

I love this so much. We sometimes celebrate and sometimes don’t and its always fine. We’ve been married for 30 years next month and i know he’s pot committed so to speak. We also may not be celebrating our 30th Anniversary more than going out to dinner. We did celebrate our 25th big by taking 19 people to Disneyland for a week. Our kids, parents, grandkids, and 2 close friends. We’ve never bought each other like lovey dovey cards or anything like that. However, when my husband does do something romantic for me he goes hard and its all like a fairytale. I think thats why I’m not passive aggressive about it at all. I do love that you can laugh at yourself. 😂

My husband I have never done a typical Valentine's Day celebration: no cards, gifts, dinner out, flowers, etc. I'm just not into the commercialism of the day. We love each other as well as show and say it everyday. I cook daily so I usually make a fancier dinner, such as filet. I'll mention we're also very practical. When he took me to look at engagement rings I told him I just wanted a gold band and no diamond. He respected my wishes and a few months later his mom was confused when he texted our engagement and sent a pic of the ring. Naturally, she expected to see a diamond and thought we had gotten married on vacation. For our anniversaries I make a cake and a nice dinner. No passive aggressiveness here. We're happy and love each other and don't care about the material stuff.

I don’t have a significant other so for Valentine’s Day I make super elaborate homemade valentines cards for my mom dad and brother and mail them or at least send a picture if it’s too big. None of them ever expect it or are sad if I don’t, (some years I just don’t have time) but that’s why I enjoy doing it. And of course I FaceTime them, like I do every other day. We have never really celebrated in my family so like there’s not an expectation or anything, I just like being crafty and this gives me a good excuse. And it makes my parents happy. (My brother likes them too, but he has adhd like I do and you know, forgets or misplaces it in the next minute.)

Love this per usual!! 😊💜 Your posts always brighten my day!! My husband and I had our first date the week after Valentine's, so we celebrate that day instead. It means more to us and we avoid the crowds, etc. And we don't always do presents...it sort of depends on the year. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I ask if I can get a certain gift. He says yes ( sometimes no, but mostly yes...and if no, I have backups on hand). I order it. When it comes....I give it to him to give to me on Valentine's Day. He sometimes forgets because he hides it. And then I have to remind him to go get my gift, that I know he has, to give to me. 30 years, baby,,,,THIRTY years! LOL!

For me it's not so much about a "gift". I'm the planner of the family and my friend group. I coordinate all holidays, birthdays, vacations and other special occasions. So if someone really wants to do something for my birthday or Valentines Day (which fall in the same week), the most meaningful thing would be for someone else to step in and plan/coordinate it. Even just having the family over for pizza and board games, if someone else coordinates and all I have to do is show up and enjoy it, that's priceless for me.

Not gonna lie, honestly can't remember the last time we celebrated Valentine's day - I've never been a fan of it. I do enjoy being spoiled on occasion - doesn't everyone ? - but not because some date on a calendar dictates it. Just because it feels so much nicer. A date just because, hubby cooked just because, he brought me flowers just because ... okay, that last one, unless it's a fruit tree or something I can plant, he knows better, lol. I am that wife who Wants household appliances, kitchenware, or a gift card to buy myself clothes - not even joking, I got super excited over the stuff I got for Christmas the past few years ! All kitchen/camp stuff ! Loved the video as I see so many family members/friends in this, lol

Gifts from someone I share a bank account with don't make sense to me. We tend to focus on the kids for Valentines Day, but for our anniversary and our birthdays we go out to a nice restaurant and write something to each other (email or on Facebook). Other than that, we appreciate doing things for each other, like a massage or taking over a chore for the day. Or sometimes for birthday, Christmas, or Mother's/Father's Day we help the kids make something touching for the other parent. Before we had kids we took a trip for Christmas/anniversary (same month).

We’ve been together for over 30 years and I told my husband years ago let’s not do valentines. But, in 2019 we we’re temporarily separated and during that time, on valentine day, he got me a candy dish someone made at the church. He didn’t have to do it during that time; but he did. It’s the best gift he ever gave me. We still don’t do valentine lol. But I think I’ll get him a card because lately he’s been having a tough time and feeling depressed.

This is hilarious! My husband has ADHD, so it really helps him when I tell him specifically what I want. I prefer Costco flowers (they are beautiful and last much longer than flowers from other places) and take-out on Valentine’s Day. We get See’s chocolate and go out to dinner sometime before or after the day. It really helps when I tell my husband exactly what I want…hints don’t work well with a lot of men. It may sound like I am very controlling, but after over 25 years of marriage, we both appreciate the plain talk.
