Dennis spotted this EYE-POPPING all steel CANDY APPLE RED chopped, stretched & widened Chevy coupe back in 2008 at a car show in Utah. He could tell it was something really special, but little did Dennis know that the builder, Dave Kindig, would go on to become one of the biggest names in custom car building! This was Dave's first appearance on national TV and the first time the full interview has been released.

After highschool I opened up my own custom motorcycle shop, and the color of the first bike that we built was Candy Apple Red. 30 years later I am retired from doing the actual fabrication work, I do have a Custom motorcycle shop but we only sale them now. I've seen some really good builders in my life, but Dave Kingdig and his Crew are the very best that I have ever seen. Builders are only as good as their team" Will Lockwood and Kris Elmer are the best in the field. I have had some very talented employee's over the last three decades" that has helped me make a very good living. I'll never take full credit for anything that my crew and I have built together, unfortunately most of those guys lived the fast life. After loosing my top fabricator and best friend to an overdose, I couldn't imagine trying to build anything else. Great video brother thanks for sharing it with us.

Love this car and the work that went into it. Dave seems like a really nice guy and so are the guys that work for him. They each bring their own talents to the shop and Dave seems to give them the room to show their talent. Each guy in his shop is a master craftsman. That shop is truly unlimited. Much respect to Dave and ALL the craftsman that work at Kindig-It.

In the early 90's i built a 37 Chevy along with the Posies shop in Pennsylvania. It was featured in several magazines including Hot Rod shot by Gray Baskerville. There are so many features between the two cars that are similar, it's quite interesting, I won't list them here except for the Porsche 911 electric sunroof in mine. There are some things about Dave's I like that I didn't think of back then, beautiful car! One other thing, I drive mine all the time, to work and cross-country trips.

I was in my 20s (this is in the mid 90s) when the street rod/custom bug bit me. That was the Trepanier/Foose radical mod era. I love that style but I also really dig Dave’s approach. His body mods are a usually a lot more subtle but they still slap. His drivetrains are usually a little crazier, though. 😁 Dude’s a real talent.

@@MyClassicCarTV - That's true. But what some don't realize is just how many man-hours is required to custom fabricate all the various components and parts for each build. So, I don't necessarily think Dave charges much more than industry standard for labor, it's the accumulated amount of man-hours required that makes a build expensive! It's not unheard of for a build to have 2,000 man-hours put into it! At $50 per hour, which is conservative, that's $100,000 just in labor alone! Parts and materials could easily equal that amount, if not exceed it. So, that's $200,000. Then add another $50,000 or so for Dave's fees. If you get a Kendigit Design custom built car for under a quarter mil, you're doing good!
