Hi, did you by chance drill though the DPC there @ 25:00. What would be the minimum depth expected to lay armoured cable. Some say it should be at least 1ft down.

I wish I had you as my installer. I had a right cowboy. Blew out a brick being too heavy handed: cracked another brick;. Broke two drills due to overheating when drilling an earthing rod. Drilled my charger to the wall in situ causing the internals to be full of brick dust, and finally, pinned the cable to plasterboard without using wall plugs. Apart from that perfect. :). Thanks for sharing

The Zappi got some really clever functions. I love the solar charge option, and I understood from another video from the MyEnergy channel that with the Harvi its possible to monitor the amount of energy generated by your solar panels as well by fitting CT clips on the cables coming from the inverter. As a result it's possible to see how much current is going in or out the grid, into the car and from the solar panels, and then the usage of other consumers in the house can be seen as a result. In the future they will offer a switch box to make other consumers in the house like a washing machine or tumble dryer intelligent, they are switched on when there is a surplus of solar energy. This can be a great advantage when having a smart meter which monitors consumption and feedback from or into the grid, in the near future in the Netherlands consumption from the grid will cost 3 times as much as you get payed for feedback, and this may apply to other countries as well. So worth using as much as possible of your own generated power directly. Also a big advantage is the built in type A DCR.

Great video. Very well described performance and functionality with the install process. What I really like is that as a DIYer I can prepare for an electrical installation of an EV charger in the future by getting suitable cable under my floors from the consumer unit to an outside location. This way I do not need to have SWA screwed to my outside walls. This video confirms the capacity rating and prep work ahead of an installer coming in.

The Storm SWA glands are very similar in design to Pro Term SWA glands which I first saw and liked at a trade show around 2010. As a result I gave up on the brass SWA because the Pro Term were so easy to fit and did a much better job of connecting the armour and sealing around the outer sheath. I retired just before EV charging really started in earnest. Always something new to learn. Keep up the good work.

I love watching your videos and always learn plenty by watching them. I wanted to ask a question though about the supply cable. Would you consider using a 2 core SWA with blue and brown conductors? If you go into a plastic CU you can add a link to the earth bar as a continuation of the armourings rather than a bonding conductor. If you go into a metal CU, the link could be omitted as the metal body of the CU would finish the link to the earth bar. By using at 2 core cable you would be using the steel armourings to form a very large CSA conductor for fault current. I know you will have considered this option. Is there a reason why you don't use two core which would avoid the parallel paths you get when you have an earth conductor and and earth link from the gland? Keep up the good work.

Great video!! I have a couple of questions, 1) why have you went onto the non rcd way? I'm assuming there is a reason? I know the have a 6ma rcd inside the charger there self, 2) have you done a video on setting up the charger and Harvey and Eddie? 3) whats this back plate that someone said you might have forgotten?
@artisanelectrics4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching. 1. The cable doesn’t need RCD protection as it’s armoured and clipped direct. If I put it on an RCD it would have to be a type B RCD as it’s upstream from the Type A RCD with 6mA DC protection that’s built in to the Zappi. 2. I’ve not done a video on this maybe I should... 3. The back plate is just to protect the tethered cable from being scratched against the wall. It clips on to the top of the Zappi and is held on by a couple of screws at the back.

@paulf25294 жыл бұрын
Top tip, you can buy large silica gel packs very cheaply on ebay / Amazon. I have these in my tool cases, particularly useful for precision stuff that often gets damp like my spectra laser level. The other thing is to keep a bit of scouring pad in the box and some wd40, a quick rub will get any surface rust off and the wd40 will give a bit of protection.

@Artisan Electrics I also spotted that when you drill through the wall from inside the cupboard with the consumer unit in it you also appear to have drilled through the damp proof course and you didn't answer Chris B's comment either when he passed comment about that you conveniently ignored it. If I had done that I would have ensured that I blew all of the Loose dust out of the hole before I passed the armoured cable through and then after inserting the armoured cable I would have pumped the hole full of clear silicone in order to try and restore the integrity of the DPC otherwise it's quite likely that you could end up getting Rising Damp in the wall . At least it is something that you should be more aware of on your next install

Hi, I have been watching your channel for a while with great interest, and it reminds me not to fiddle with wires! I have been quote for a Zappi and they are proposing to use Hi-Tuff cable. Anyway I am not going to trust them to run the supply cable and will get my local Spark to do it neatly rather than easily! Had a Zappi installed yesterday including the myenergie hub. I presumed I could now observe on the app how much solar energy my solar panels were generating. I could not. I know the fitter used one CT clamp, however from what I am reading now I need another CT clamp? Would this addition sort it out or do I also need the Harvi? If I do nothing else will my solar panels be contributing to my charge or not as I cannot see physically if they are. Wish my fitter had explained this but he seemed to know little about the hub. Thanks!
@artisanelectrics4 жыл бұрын
That's a shame, yes he should have installed two CT's, one for the grid input which goes on the main tails from the meter and one for the solar input which goes on the feed in from the solar panels. Seem's like your installer didn't have much experience installing these. I would ask him to come back and fit the additional CT. The Harvi is just a wireless communication device which enables you to connect CT's to the Zappi without running a hard wired data cable from the Zappi to the CT. Your installer can do either a hard wired connection from the zappi to the two CT's using the provided cables or a CAT5e data cable, or they can install the Harvi and run the CT cables to that. Hope this helps.

Hi, thank you for video. What determined the location of the Zappi? I assume all EV cars have different charge point positions and some people reverse into garages and if you cannot be bothered to put the car away can the lead reach? While my brain is on - what about the lead going outside and closing the garage door? Could a transfer adapter be fitted into the wall? I’d better stop now otherwise you’ll be charging me and I can’t afford it. Thank you.
