There was that news clip that Robert had on in one of the scenes. You can hear the news mention that the patients that received the cancer cure were starting to exhibit symptoms like rabies. Because of her accent, we can assume that the first cases likely started in the UK and then by "jump", the virus jumped from Europe to North America.

I also agree! That’s actually why I enjoyed World War Z. Yeah yeah it wasn’t faithful to the book but I finally got to see a big budget first stage of the zombie apocalypse. And then they solved it! After zombie movies always ending ambiguous it was refreshing for them to be like we cured it. Happy ending!

@@wadewapass4197 if u c at the beginning of the movie a doctor called Ailson Krippin played by Emma Thompson made a cure for cancer by using the mesals virus but reprogrammed to work for the body rather then against it like they do with all cures and vaccines but anyways her cure was tested on 10.009 people who were developing cancer and they were cured from it but the cure took a bad turn and turned into a rabies and measles like virus which they called the Krippin virus that was spreading through out the world and pushing man kind to the edge of extinction and most people who got infected died while the others turned into dark seekers then in this scene the virus took on a new strain and became airborn.
