I think the whole "super slow speed of though" thing in heaven sent and sherlock worked simply because it fits those characters as the kind who would run their thoughts that way. bouncing off themselves, and at the time in heaven sent the doctor was grieving for Clara and feeling the need to talk to someone, so he was imagining a clara to talk to as something his brain needed at that moment.

Flatline was such a cool episode that utilizes some fantastic visual effects, extremely creative ideas that utilize the main monsters' own ability against it, a genuine mystery and a moral grey in that the monster might not even know it's hurting people. Such a good episode.

around 27:00 - there's a thing with birdemic where the director dude for some reason felt the need to showcase exactly how characters get place to place, so the movie has a lot of really long boring driving scenes basically overexplaining something most movies do with two second establishing shots The doctor mind palace stuff is basically a bit tell not show issue, basically. It can kind of work in some situations - if you've actually built up a mystery and actually have a complicated resolution, you get to do that for the big triumphant i'm so smart payoff. But when you do that for everything it loses its umph and makes you look like you're talking down to your audience.

It may interest you to know that the amount of time it takes to become visibly pregnant is on average 16-20 weeks. 20 weeks is 140 days, so the number of rotations (21,754) divided by that number should give the number of rotations around that star per earth day, so 155.39, which is 6 per hour, or about 1 rotation every 10 minutes. It isn't unfathomable that "rotations" are used to mark time, or that the gravity prevents him from getting dizzy, but you would imagine that he would probably be using some other way to mark time, maybe some standardised method, used no matter what planet you're on

Why show them moving... the whole "PrETEnD To SEe" is such a retarded concept, the angels freeze unvoluntarily, it doesn't matter whetter they "Think" you can see you, if someone is observing them and they have no means to know how why or where they WILL freeze regardless.. Then they got turned into Stone clowns later on

@@alicesophie123 Honestly, I don't have a problem with "the image of an angel is itself an angel", it adds even more of a crippling feeling to the main characters as they can't even show others images of the "Statues" to warn them. and as amy demonstrates, it presents reasonable danger, but end the original image n' byebye angel clone, doesn't mean the additional angel is any less dangerous but can be somewhat dealt with. It does contradict Blink and the documents 10 gets.. but it could be easily explained somewhat (if moffat bothered to, that is) "Don't look at the eyes" is.. stupid, silly, just no. it would be fine if like, they go X million years to the future and now angels can do Y because *Evolution owo* but that really isn't the case..

Genuinely one of the worst episodes of NuWho. A confused, jumbled, emotionally hollow clusterfuck. S11/12 is a slow flatline, Flux is a trainwreck that might entertain by sheer force of events, but which is ultimately just as awful and painful to see as the rest of the era.

But I disagree with Jay's point about the Sherlock-thought-process thing. It can be done well, or poorly - the sequence of Sherlock figuring out how to survive being shot is fantastic. It's not just an elegant solution, but it goes deeper and reveals how the people in his life represent different sides of his self-indentity; the stoic drive of Molly, the condescending power of Mycroft, the hedonistic suicidalism of Moriarity. It's intelligent, meaningful, and entertaining. The use in Once Upon Time is entirely superfluous and contains no intelligence, elegance, or wit.

I'd like to disagree with you, Jay. I don't think the scenes where we see the Doctor do a whole internal monologue in a split second is a good thing. It's exactly what you've been asking for, it's characterization through actions. This is a way to show you the Doctor is like an alien with an extraordinary intellect, basically slowing them their super fast thinking. That's way better than the Doctor just looking at Dan and saying "I'm very smart, you know. I can solve an expert level math equation in a split second". I mean, I guess you could do that through dialogue too. Like, the Ninth Doctor essentially does tell don't show with his whole "I can feel it" speech, but it's delivered in such an emotional manner you like that he gets to do this speech. But anyway, while I defend this super fast thinking in theory, I do agree that by now it's overdone and cliche.
