I've made a few of these and I'd recommend, if using plywood, you use high quality birch. You don't want cracks or voids in your drawers that occur with cheaper plywood-the more plys the better. Also, I center the drawers with pieces of veneers as runners on their bottom side. I use oil and the Beal wax buffing system for a finish. Excellent video. Thank you.

Put painters tape on your blank first then glue your pattern to the tape. MUCH easier to get pattern off. Awesome project!

Yes! Forgot to do that. I do that with my scroll saw patterns

I do alot of fret work on my scroll saw. I use 2in masking tape before applying my patterns, won't come off while cutting. I've found the masking tape to be a good bit cheaper than the painter's tape.

@MSRWorkshop thanks for the lesson...might I suggest you try using felt cloth instead of flocking? No mask required and far less messy. You can get some really thin stock. I have multiple high end jewelry boxes that were given to me over the years and they are lined with either silk, satin or felt...

Damn good point to having 2 band saws. Since not everybody can afford 2 good size saws, maybe opt for an inexpensive 10inch saw, like the grizzly G0948 for the inside cuts, and reserve their big 14in to the re-saw applications????? Would save a little jingle in their pockets.

Hah, yes. I actually had the Rikon 10in but it was so limited on resaw height and I use the Carter small blade stabilizer and I’m not sure they make one for a 10in saw. So I sold it for the jet saw.

@@MSRWorkshop I bet that Carter stabilizer really helps. Makes sense how it works! I do alot of scrolling myself, but getting into bandsaws now!

If doing a number of boxes just change blades and batch the production.

So for pre-flocking I cut some elmers glue with a little water to thin it out. Then paint it on, works like a charm.

I have flocked 125,000 jewelry boxes in my shop. Not that many myself but in 44 years we have made a bunch of boxes. FLOCKING TIPS - I use yellow wood glue watered down a little. I seal the inside of the drawer or box with even a little more watered down yellow wood glue (2 coats) then lightly sand the sealed inside of the drawer with 220 sandpaper. Believe me it makes the flock much softer to sand the sealed wood. If you do not seal the inside of the drawer first the wood absorbs the moisture from the glue and you get an uneven result. By the way if you get flock prints on the box or glue overflow on the varnish it cleans up with a damp rag. The chances that the flocked drawer will get wet is very low. The only reason I see for using solvent based adhesives is to make the flock job waterproof. For big jobs you have to work fast. Divide the job into sections if the job is too big to do all at once due to glue drying. You can lightly go over the whole surface once you have all the glue applied to make the coating more of a uniform wetness. I use a dark cardinal red flock .030 and the glue does not show or affect the color of the flock.. It is not transparent but a very light yellow when dried. You could use white wood glue too. I use yellow wood glue because that is what I always have on hand. I have never tried because it was not necessary but I have thought of using food coloring if it was ever necessary to color my glue. I use an air pistol hooked up to an air compressor. The yellow can looking flock guns that Rockler sells suck. I have 2 and have never been able to get them to work right. If anybody knows how to make them work please let me know. I have an old heavy duty flock gun I have been repairing for 30 years. Just today I found a flock gun out of India. I inquired about it but have not heard back yet. Zari Flocking Gun it was called. (postscript. The people in India demanded a bank transfer. Do not do that. Only deal with people who accept credit/debit cards) I found another Flocking gun, the Wagner WF-20, 20 mm for the application of dry chips to a wet undercoat but that cost 180 Euros plus shipping. Flocks guns are very hard to find these days. By the way, When I am interviewing women to do the flocking I ask them if they know how "to flock". Not one has ever minded once they realized what the joke was.

I know this is a year old, and you may not be monitoring. I saw a different method used in the first steps and wanted to get your feedback. Step one was cutting the back off. Step two was cutting the drawers out. Step three was gluing together the cust where you cut the drawers out. Step 4 was glueing the back on, Step 5 was cutting the outside line. this way the back automatically fit the glued box. and ther is nothing to clean upff for the back piece. Thoughts?

Love the video - can you tell me what sort of fence you're using on that Powermatic. i just got one - 14" - and want to set it up for doing the resaw like you. I also just got a used RIDGID 14" - all tuned - no vibration. Will order the Carter Stabilizer for that one. But - I try to use the fence that came with the powermatic and I think it needs to be like the one you're using.

So I’m not sure you can get the Powermatic one to fit a smaller saw and it’s probably stupidly expensive to order. Take a look at this one by Rikon. It’s a great setup and should work really well for all that you’re doing www.rockler.com/rikon-quick-adjust-tall-rip-fence-system?country=US&sid=V91040&promo=shopping&PL&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0PWRBhDKARIsAPKHFGiKmaOsvv71sbL6_CMx5D0uwHHxFF8Aht3It310tR6LZF9-VMH3T1kaAnIHEALw_wcB

So you actually have to call them. It’s two separate items. They don’t have a specific listing for the jet saw …. At least they didn’t when I ordered. Call them and there super helpful and they will give you the 2 part numbers to order the proper guide
