For everyone that has asked or questioned bypassing the cars existing fuel tank to do this yes it will still clean, the reason why it is done this way is 1 to return and debris back to the temporary fuel can secondly to give the full concentration of the product to the injection pump and injectors. Filling the filter canister will return excess product back to the tank. Depending on how serious you are wanting to clean determines what route you go mind you the most effective method is the one shown in this video.

Thanks for the video it's really helpful. But I would suggest that you change the fuel filter before using the purge step, this way you don't have to prime the fuel pumps after changing the fuel filter (in cases where it's needed which can be a hassle) you are giving the pumps enough time to fill the filter and lines with fuel and purge out air. overall I like your videos. cheers

I carried out this process on my Skoda octavia 2.0 TDI Vrs, I found this video really helpful, only thing I did different I just doubled back one pipe on itself on the fuel filter. Afterwards the vehicle was more responsive

You don't put it in the tank, you don't put it in the filter. You do it just like he showed, with a jar and fuel lines. Burn up 2 cans of purge at varying engine speeds. Just before you run out, stop the engine and put everything back together. Then replace the fuel filters. You CAN prime a fuel filter with purge, but it won't clean like it needs to because the filter will fill with diesel and the purge will get flushed to the tank. Just pouring it into the tank isn't strong enough.
@Richard_L_Y4 жыл бұрын
Use two paper filters (especially if you are going to re-use the excess left over in the filter compartment or tank) and connect them directly into the hoses at the filter; then you only need two plastic hose lengths; use the (5/16" / 8mm) plastic join / splice connector to directly connect the tank to filter and return feed hoses. I've still nowhere seen an example (or any other info) which definitively shows the the feed and return direction for a VAG 8P1! (but it's easy to see and work out when you connect and start (if you've got the filters the wrong direction (just a bit more messy if it's the wrong way around). Suck some purge fluid into the flow filter first before you connect that if you want to avoid drawing air and possible stall (just be careful not to get it any further it's not good for you). A plastic container with two holes drilled in the cap for the plastic hoses works well and keeps the hoses in place (if hose O/D is e.g. 11mm use a 10.5 drill bit if you can; don't worry most plastic won't melt even though it gets fairly hot) It's easy! However it made no noticeable difference to the performance of an 2006 8P1 Audi A3 1.9TDi at 100k miles; but the paper filter clearly showed it had filtered something. Some say this shouldn't be done on a common rail?

What was the point of this?Did you do this to clean the fuel rail or to purge the air out the the rail?Trying to learn as much as i can about these diesels & you seem to know these pretty well.Thanks in advance for the answer.
@christophers124712 жыл бұрын
this is just a cleaning product for the injectors/fuel rail and pressure system you dont have to do this at any point as long as you change your fuel filter regularly or are experiancing problems with your fuel system. these fuel systems on vw engines are very reliable unless they are expossed to dirty fuel.

Thanks for your reply. On US models, the high pressure pump is on the left. I figured out that there is a pressure sensor before the high pressure pump, which will not allow the car to start unless there is sufficient pressure coming from low pressure pump. How did you bypass this sensor?

Hi, Can you please do another version or add an addendum using diesel purge on a 2009 VW Jetta TDIi (CBEA common rail) as my engine does not have the three stainless steel fuel lines as shown in this video. My fuel filter housing has the four hoses and also the Torx bleeder screw. It uses the "'wide mouth" 434A style fuel filter. Thanks

just curious, if there was concern over using a plastic container during the cleaning, why was plastic line and a plastic in line filter used?
@mannys913011 жыл бұрын
You can prime the filter with purge, but it won't clean. All the purge will be flushed back through the return line and dump into the fuel tank where it will be diluted way too much to work properly.

The diesel purge is clear, diesel is yellow. I noticed the diesel purge turned a diesel color upon start up so the easiest way is to drain the canister when changing the filter and before installing a new filter fill the canister with the diesel purge and then you do not have any fuel lines to disconnect. It will still clean the injectors doing it this way instead of the way shown in the video and in less time also. By less time I mean less time in being under the hood disconnecting hoses needlessly and then having to hook them up again as well as not having any possible leaks form the lines form them being disconnected in the first place.
@navisolim7 жыл бұрын
John F yeah but the concentration of the purge is going to be smaller because its constantly mixing with fresh diesel from the fuel tank...that way is better then just putting the purge into the tank but if you do it like in the video its going to have bigger impact
@RobinGWakker5 жыл бұрын
Agreed, just run the engine for 30 seconds for the solution to reach the injectors, shut off the engine, let soak for 20 minutes or so and run the car for a good 30 minutes driving around on highway speeds. The other thing i do before hand is decarbing the EGR valve to help smoothen things out. Works great.

I have a 2012 Jetta TDI and I accidentally put a few gallons of gasoline in it one night. I syphoned out the gas and put 5 gallons of diesel in it and replaced the fuel filter and filled the fuel filter canister with fuel (thank you for the videos which made it easier). Then, the battery ended up being completely dead. I bought a replacement today and while it cranks, it wont start. Do you think it is the lines? I was hoping I wouldnt have to do this as I am not a car guy. Also, it has been sitting for about 5 months now since the gas incident but all the repairs have been within the last 2 weeks.

I still don't understand how this works. The engine won't start without low pressure fuel being pumped. I would like to know how your engine is running. I was only able to do this two types: The VE pump type (ALH tdi's) and the CR TDIs (09+ I think) that have a pump in the engine bay. I was not able to start a PD engine with this method because as far as I know the PD injectors can't suck in the fuel like the VE pumps. Can someone explain?
@agt155 Жыл бұрын
PD engines have a cam-powered supply pump to provide fuel to the injectors. It's called a tandem pump because it is both a fuel and vacuum pump.

@overand7 жыл бұрын
That's definitely not going to help. It sounds like Talal has a high pressure fuel pump failure. Google "HPFP Failure." The fix for this involves taking all of the fuel lines out, emptying the fuel tank, and cleaning out the metal bits in the tank, the lines, the sensors, the pumps, the injectors, PLUS replacing the failed HPFP and any other failed parts. It's a MAJOR repair.
@cortinatim17 жыл бұрын
Overand Exactly. The metal is coming from somewhere and 99% of the time it's the high pressure fuel pump. A waste of time and money if you don't fix that.
