The Future of Etihad - A350-1000 Inaugural Flight

I flew on Etihad Airways new A350-1000 inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Paris on 31 March 2022. The Etihad A350-1000 has 44 Business Class suites and 327 economy class seats. A total of 5 A350-1000 will be entering service with Etihad this year.
There are the usual celebrations at the gate before takeoff, aviation enthusiasts and media were busy taking photos and videos of the new plane. The pilot gave the flight briefing and showed the latest touch screen technology on the A350-1000 cockpit display. Enjoy the views from the cockpit during takeoff.
After takeoff, I explored the Economy Class cabin. The first 5 rows in Economy have extra space as Economy Space. There are tablet holders and a bluetooth enabled headset connection. I checked out all the seat functions in the new Etihad Business Class suite. It has a sliding door to enhance privacy.
During the flight, I interviewed Etihad Aviation Group CEO Tony Douglas about the A350 operation and the future of the Etihad A380. The new Etihad A350-1000 will be deployed to Mumbai, Delhi, Jeddah, Cairo and Istanbul before entering long haul service to New York and Chicago in July.
I give my verdict and recommendation on the Etihad A350 at the end of the video.

The A350 has become one of my favorite aircraft over the last couple of years and I’m very happy to see that Etihad has also added this beauty to its fleet. Pity they don’t intend to fly it to Europe, but understandable. 36.000ft cruising altitude seems rather low for the A350 by the way, often see them at or above 40.000ft. Anyway, thanks for another great trip report Sam!👍🏻

Sam, I know you wanted that galley to be smaller than the 787. I did too. lol. But, unfortunately, there is little good news for Boing in this video. The A350-1000 holds 372 people at 9 across in economy, and from the video, even those seats look really comfortable. Boing 777x will hold more, but at 10 across, so it seems. Will not be fun. Of course, between now and the time Boing 777x gets flying commercial, if ever, things will change. What hasn't changed is that airlines are buying more A350s than 777x. Great video, again. Thanks!

Hi Sam. Nice to see your review of Etihad A350-1000. I am really happy that they bring new aircraft type into service with several spectacular features, especillay with Economy Class. However, I am disappointed because of 2 eeasons. 1. There is no first on A350. I wish they can have 4 suites. Even though not a seperate cabin as 787 or a380, it should be at least similar to Jetblue. 2. The new business class seat is good but I expect more. I wish they can install some kinds of seat which are similar to ANA the room, QR Qsuites or Jal Skysuite. The new seat of Etihad is just marginally better than BA. Otherwise, Etihad team always create masterpiece in the air.

I trust the A350 is a Great product as the cabin width is just nice for a 9 abreast sitting comfort. The 787 is a tight squeeze for 9 abreast but 8 would be better. As for 777X, 10 abreast is a squeeze, 9 would be losing money for the airline. Therefore A350 is a winner.

I had the opportunity to travel Etihad A380 business class, I think it was the best flight experience I have ever had, but A350 seems to be a slight modern version and A380 will be less efficient for etihad as I believe they were having significant losses even before covid.

Perplexing comments from the Etihad CEO about the A380's performance and future. With good loading A380 is more fuel efficient. And what head of a company would announce flippantly that they will mothball all their A380s indefinably, an aircraft worth upwards of half a billion dollars each!! He's worried about fuel costs but not the massive capital investment he's delegating to collecting dust in storage and not revenue earning.

Fantastic plane in technology terms. But not a great plane for long haul flights, can hear the engine the whole way, and feel every bump and knock from the wind, and doesn’t handle turbulence very well. And virtually no room in economy.

Nowadays lot of jet planes tried to be eco-friendly and fuel efficient as it can be. There's a lot of engineering works to enhance the latest rolls Royce engine. Hopefully later, future planes can fly with cooking oil! As it was experimented on A380 at 3 hours flight

The Super Diamond seats are, in my opinion, the most practical and comfortable business class seats. I'm happy to see Etihad got rid of the business class seats they had. I only flew one flight with Etihad (Abu Dahabi to Zurich) on a 787 and HATED the seat so much that I've never booked a flight with Etihad since.

@@franklinloo2160 The Super Diamond seat Etihad is switching to now, is very good. It can be found on many other airlines. The former seat looked pretty, but was very impractical and uncomfortable. I flew on an Etihad 787-9 from Abu Dhabi to Zurich in 2019 on an overnight flight. The seat had no leg rest, only a recline feature. So, the only two options were to either be fully flat (for which the seat was very narrow in the foot well) or to sit upright. It was the worst "sleep" I have ever gotten on a plane. I like to have my feet up a bit and be slightly reclined while watching TV, and I like to sleep on aircraft in a zero G position. The best sleep I ever got on a plane was in an Air Canada Super Diamond seat, also on a 787-9, from Toronto to Dubai. I slept all the way from Newfoundland to Bulgaria.

747s and A380s belong to the past, present and future belong to A350 and 787, while 777X could have her niche
