During WWII Sweden officially was neutral but they provide rail road access to German troops in an agreement that Germany would buy vast amounts of iron. However Sweden active spied against Germany via signals intelligence tapping, relaying it to England and the Allied forces. When the war broke out between Finland and Russia, the finnish signals intelligence records where moved (Operation Stella Polaris) to Sweden working together with the Swedis counter parts relaying intelligence to the Allied Forces. Sweden (mathematician Arne Beurling) was also first to crack the G-printer (or Geheimfernschreiber/Siemens and Halske T52) and shared this with the Allied Forces. So the answer is not that easy to answer, double games seems to be the way to go.

Sweden did what it had to do to avoid being overrun like Denmark and Norway. They were neutral, but sympathized with the Allies while trying not to give Hitler an excuse to take over.

Pungfoster - 49% of Swedes are natural blue eyed blonds, which is more natural blondes than in California, which is roughly the same size as Sweden.

Obersturmbannführer according to Swedes I know, light eyes are close to 90% , same as in Finland, and hair depends of criteria and season.. but both Finns and Swedes I know claim that Sweden and Finland are the blondest countries, closely followed by Denmark, Norway and Estonia

Well to my Slavic eyes most Swedes( abd Finns) are def. blond, since we consider that “ash blond”as you call it “rat” “sandy” hair as blond. I heard it is considered as brown hair in north Europe.

A little mistake. The fact/myth was: "The Vikings did NOT have horns on their helmets". They didn't so the statement "The vikings did not have horns on their helmets" is true.

Basically what it is saying in those comments is that Germany used Sweden as a way of transporting thing to Norway. Since I'm a Norwegian myself I can give a great perspective on this 🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰🇫🇮🇮🇸✌👍. Plus I love all the Nordic countries ♥ 😍

I feel like I read somewhere that Vikings actually had horns, atleast a very small percentage, in the same way that the samurai would customize their helmets to look scary. But dunno if it was just a specific Viking tribe that did so.

The size question obviously depends on which definition of Europe you use, if you include Russia and Ukraine it would obviously move Sweden down two spots. If you mean "In EU" Sweden is #3 though.

Sweden was not neutral in WW2 because Sweden was on Finlands side. Other then that Sweden worked with/against both the allies and axis in equal amounts.
@gaynor1721
@gaynor1721 6 жыл бұрын
You guys contradicted yourselves! You answered the question by asking Swedish Vikings *did not* have horns on their helmets and then said the question was *false,* in other words they did have horns, then said the answer is they did not have horns, but you gave the answer in the question. The question should have been *Swedish Vikings wore helmets with horns?* Then the answer would have been no or false, but the way you asked the question, the answer should have been true, they did not wear horned helmets! As for Sweden's neutrality, 95% of Denmark's Jews escaped the Nazis by emigrating to Sweden and Sweden bought her neutrality by giving the Nazis 90% of iron ore. That's why you had Germans in Sweden, although you were not occupied like Norway, that's why Sweden didn't fight in the war, that's why the Nazis didn't build concentration camps in Sweden, that's why there were no Swedish women having sex with Germans and having their hair shaved off their heads for being Nazi collaborators... and all that adds up to being a neutral country, imo.

After Denmark and Norway were invaded on April 9, 1940, Sweden and the other remaining Baltic Sea countries became enclosed by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, then on friendly terms with each other as formalized in the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. The lengthy fighting in Norway resulted in increased German requests for indirect assistance from Sweden, demands that Swedish diplomats were able to fend off by reminding the Germans of the Swedes' feeling of closeness to their Norwegian brethren. With the conclusion of hostilities in Norway this argument became untenable, forcing the Cabinet to give in to German pressure and allow continuous (unarmed)[citation needed] troop transports, via Swedish railroads, between Germany and Norway. The extent of these transports was kept secret, although spreading rumors soon forced prime minister Per Albin Hansson to admit their existence. Officially the trains transported wounded soldiers and soldiers on leave (permittent-tåg), which would still have been in violation of Sweden's proclaimed neutrality. In all, close to 100,000 railroad cars had transported 1,004,158 military personnel on leave to Germany and 1,037,158 to Norway through Sweden by the time the transit agreement was disbanded on 15 August 1943.[1]

Even in rural parts of Sweden, with no recent immigration, brown hair is very common. Reason for this is that ethnic swedes are a of north germanic ethnicity, were both brown and blonde hair is endemic.
