Finlandssvenska is just a dialect of Swedish so if you don't understand it something's wrong. :) Maybe you think of people whose first language is Finnish and speak broken Swedish? It can be a little tricky to understand them, especially because some sounds don't exist in Finnish, for example "situation" may become "situason".

1. Swdes are relatively tall people. Im from Russia, and people in Swden are mostly taller than in Russia. 2. Sweden is very safe. I lived in Russia, USA and three more countries. And in my opinion Sweden is safest. And most expensive )) 3. Swden is not socialist. If you say it is, you dont know what socialism is. 4. Sweden is not cold if you live anywhere south to Uppsala or Stockholm. And 70% of swedes live in the southern part of the country 5. And taking off your shoes inside is a good tradition. Not unique to Sweden. In Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, China, Japan, Middle East, India they take off shoes when inside. Why would you take in all the dust, mud, filth, dogshit from streets???
@r.chamaemorus80256 жыл бұрын
Micober Ss. Is 5'4, or 163 cm, considered short for a Russian standard? Because I am that height and is short for a Swedish standard. Also I am from a cold part of Sweden, but it can probably not compare to the coldest parts of your country.
@micoberss55796 жыл бұрын
163 cm is short for Russian standards. Average male height in Russia is 177cm. in Sweden it is 181cm. So average Swede is little taller than average Russian. I am 173 cm, and i am considered shorter than average in Russia. Russia is generally colder than Sweden. Even colder than Norway. Because of Gulfstream you have you have little milder winters. But also Russia has hot areas in south, where it rarely snows in winters
@r.chamaemorus80256 жыл бұрын
Micober Ss, I also think height varies in different parts of Sweden. I feel taller in northern Sweden than in, for example, Stockholm. Maybe it is because there are more immigrants in Stockholm, who might come from places with a shorter average height. Norway is not cold compared to Sweden, at least not near the coast. The country are immediately affected by the gulf stream. Tromsø in northern Norway for example. The city seems to have milder climate than Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, who are located where the stream is colder. But Murmansk and Arkhangelsk do'nt even seem to be cold compared to cities in Siberia, like Norilsk or Yakutsk.

On the topic of swedes understanding norwegian and danish. Norwegian and danish is pretty much idenical in written form and pretty much all swedes can read it since it is similar to swedish. However the norwegian and danish pronunciation of the words are verry different. Norwegian and swedish are both languages where we articulate the words clearly making them easy to understand for other nordic people. Danish pronunciation is usually described as speking with a potato in the mouth. They dont articulate that much and it makes the language hard to understand for swedes (norwegians understand it better I think). However people from the south of sweden (skåne) usually understands danish better than the rest of sweden.

I'm from Skåne and I understand it ok, but it also depends on where the dane is from. A broad dialect makes it very hard to understand. I've found that the easiest danish to understand (for me) is the danish spoken in the east of Jylland(Jutland) near Århus.

I'm a college guy from France who went to Sweden with a bunch of friends, we got an airbnb in Stockholm. Yes there are a lot of non white people but also a lot of white people. Before we landed to Stockholm we struggled a little bit when we had to call our airbnb, a black guy came in and helped us, he said he lives in Sweden, but I actually didn't hear him once speak Swedish, it was kind of weird, because if you live in the country you should speak the language or be learning it, I felt like I could speak more Swedish than him (thanks Babbel), other than that, he was really nice to us ! Swedish people are shy but when you ask for help they will help you and it felt really nice. Not like in Paris, fuck Parisians, nobody likes them. I think, we, French can relate to the "let me some space" thing going in on in Sweden (in the bus, metro, etc), if there's plenty of room for someone to sit and he then proceeds to sit next to me, I would be like "Wtf do you want ?" and then move. It's actually not that cold in Sweden, at least in Stockholm. I can see why some people are afraid of immigrants, it's kind of the same in Paris, in some places you have a lot of them, in some others, you don't see any. I think that you think there are a lot of them because they're concentrated in a small area, hence the impression that you think there's a lot of them.

There are probably a small amount of anti-alcohol people as well. some younger people tend to go out drinking at a bar and/or drinks at a friends place, might go to friends place before or after visiting the bar

In some English-speaking countries (or countries where English is commonly learned as a second language) mostly former colonies, educated youth can converse in English pretty well but still retain an accent. I think you should try to look for things that we tend to "skip over" when talking in Swedish, such as "rs"(we tend to turn it into a sh-sound), "rl"(may drop the r), etc - so when we have to pronounce these in English words we won't be as used to them so we "struggle" a bit more with them. Another example is the letter z. Unless it's a common used word, I think we are more likely to pronounce it like a normal s because that's how we do it in Swedish. Personally I can usually hear when it's a Swede talking English. I watch a lot of gaming streamers and such and I think it's easy to hear when it's a Swede :P

Swedes speak English so good because English is technically a Germanic language like Swedish is. It's easier for a swede like you to learn English because of this. You speak great English as most of your countrymen do !

I am a swede, and I always thought danish was really hard to understand sometimes. But this year I worked at the touristinformation in my town and got to meet a lot of danish people. They always insist on talking danish insteed of english but I found that it wasn't as hard as I always thought. You would still have to ask them to repeat a question from time to time but otherwise it went very Well. So i do think swedes will understand danish is you just really try😊😋

I have to disagree with you on the "Sweden is safe"-part. I grew up in getto Sweden... - I've avoided going alone through the local center my entire life in fear of being assaulted. - I've got a few friends who live near there and can't avoid it, they have been assaulted. - Here, drugs are everywhere. - One day when I was a kid our school sent all the pupils home because of a murder in an apartment next to the school. - The same school is one of the most troublesome in my town. - Stores in the area, owned by irresponsible people, have committed multiple crimes and eventually closed down for legal reasons. - Stores owned by responsible people have had to close down because of death threats to the personal. - BUT, recently a lot of police have been patrolling the area which makes it feel a bit more safe. This part of Sweden does exist, it really does. I bet it's hard to understand unless you have seen it for yourself. But it is not a made up story. And it has to be brought to light! Not in order to blame anyone or to point fingers. But because so many swedes and none swedes are being let down by our country. Nationality doesn't matter, none of us wants to live here.

I think Sweden is called Sweden because when it was like 1200 it changed from "Götarike" to Sverige/Sweden because Stockholm was built and is was in "Svealand" or something like that😄

I would say most swedes can understand danish, if they don’t talk to fast so the words get mixed up.

The language thing is kind of a spectrum... right? I've heard "many kinds of swedish" (=dialects, in movies) and not all of it is easy for me to understand. For me it goes like this: Finnish swedish = I can do that! (easy) Swedish swedish = I manage (denpends on a characher) norwegian = funny, sounds like swedish, sometimes totally understandable danish = no... looks like swedish, kind of, but sounds more like german icelandic = can't really even read... some odd letters... aaaand the list would go on from here with dutch, german, french, english... they are all related, after all. It's like it gets further from swedish and closer to english and then it goes on with spanish, portugal and italy... and so on.

I'm not sure why so many Swedes tries to speak English with an American accent. We have our own, why not use that? Like Australians do, or practically everyone outside Europe.

on the topic if swedes understand islandic; I'd like to pitch in that we strange nuggets on the island of Gotland may actually understand islandic mainly due to the fact that the local native language called Gutamål is strongly related to islandic. One islandic friend could actually understand gutamål effortlessly. That said, gutamål is slowly dying as it is running out of fashion and that is a bit sad to me.

Nice video as always nackagubben, but I was waiting for a question that never arrived: I know all the systembolaget stuff, but I just wanna know if I go to a normal restaurant or so, can I order a beer by being 18 years old? Just this, thanks for the attention.

Hi! Yes, the legal age to drink at a restaurant is 18, but to buy at Systembolaget you have to be 20. Logic much? :D

I have lived in America my entire life, and so has my whole bloodline. We are American in literally every point you could think of, except for a little biology. *WHY WILL THEY NOT TAKE OFF THEIR SHOES???* I'm nowhere near germophobic, but it still REALLY bugs me. Edit: I'm literally the only one who takes off their shoes, being a young teen.

Ethnic swedes are white, but a big part of the swedish population are slavic because a lot of refugees came here to get away from the war in former yugoslavia. More recently, we have a lot of refugees who are trying to get away from the wars in Syria and Africa, and mixed in with those are golddiggers who want to live in a country that will give them money and don't expect anything in return. Some swedish women find these men exciting and don't find out, until it's to late, that commiting to a muslim husband is to commit yourself to a lifetime of slavery. Some women of the muslim faith find US exciting and if they can find a swedish man who wont mind dodging her relatives for the rest of his life, then it can go that way too.
@emsi76276 жыл бұрын
wha- ?? First of all it depends on what people you would call the ethnic ones (Sami?) Second of all, I laugh at people who say "Syria and AFRICA" like it's not a whole ass continent ??? + Having a muslim husband does not mean you're committing to a "lifetime of slavery". That's stereotyping.
@tommiejonsson89526 жыл бұрын
Dude. Syria is in the middle-east, right next to Israel. When I say Ethnic swedes, I'm referring to those who came up from the continent in the migration-era - i.e the 6th to 7th century - or rather, the descendants of those. Who layed the foundation to the nation (unintentional rhyme) that would become Sweden.
@emsi76276 жыл бұрын
I was referring to the Africa bit of your comment but ok
@tommiejonsson89526 жыл бұрын
The way I read it, you meant that Syria was a part of Africa, but it is not. Syria - and the rest of the middle-east is in Asia. Africa ends at the Arabian peninsula, which borders Israel on the west side.
@emsi76276 жыл бұрын
Then it's a misunderstanding. I was saying that people often say Africa as a country, which it isn't, that's why I reacted.
