On the topic of swedes understanding norwegian and danish. Norwegian and danish is pretty much idenical in written form and pretty much all swedes can read it since it is similar to swedish. However the norwegian and danish pronunciation of the words are verry different. Norwegian and swedish are both languages where we articulate the words clearly making them easy to understand for other nordic people. Danish pronunciation is usually described as speking with a potato in the mouth. They dont articulate that much and it makes the language hard to understand for swedes (norwegians understand it better I think). However people from the south of sweden (skåne) usually understands danish better than the rest of sweden.

I'm from Skåne and I understand it ok, but it also depends on where the dane is from. A broad dialect makes it very hard to understand. I've found that the easiest danish to understand (for me) is the danish spoken in the east of Jylland(Jutland) near Århus.

Finlandssvenska is just a dialect of Swedish so if you don't understand it something's wrong. :) Maybe you think of people whose first language is Finnish and speak broken Swedish? 1. Swdes are relatively tall people. Im from Russia, and people in Swden are mostly taller than in Russia. 2. Sweden is very safe. I lived in Russia, USA and three more countries. And in my opinion Sweden is safest. And most expensive )) 3. Swden is not socialist. If you say it is, you dont know what socialism is. 4. Sweden is not cold if you live anywhere south to Uppsala or Stockholm. And 70% of swedes live in the southern part of the country 5. And taking off your shoes inside is a good tradition. Not unique to Sweden. In Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, China, Japan, Middle East, India they take off shoes when inside. Why would you take in all the dust, mud, filth, dogshit from streets???

Micober Ss. Is 5'4, or 163 cm, considered short for a Russian standard? Because I am that height and is short for a Swedish standard. Also I am from a cold part of Sweden, but it can probably not compare to the coldest parts of your country.
@micoberss55796 жыл бұрын
163 cm is short for Russian standards. Average male height in Russia is 177cm. in Sweden it is 181cm. So average Swede is little taller than average Russian. I am 173 cm, and i am considered shorter than average in Russia. Russia is generally colder than Sweden. Even colder than Norway. Because of Gulfstream you have you have little milder winters. But also Russia has hot areas in south, where it rarely snows in winters
@r.chamaemorus80256 жыл бұрын
Micober Ss, I also think height varies in different parts of Sweden. I feel taller in northern Sweden than in, for example, Stockholm. Maybe it is because there are more immigrants in Stockholm, who might come from places with a shorter average height. Norway is not cold compared to Sweden, at least not near the coast. The country are immediately affected by the gulf stream. Tromsø in northern Norway for example. The city seems to have milder climate than Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, who are located where the stream is colder. But Murmansk and Arkhangelsk do'nt even seem to be cold compared to cities in Siberia, like Norilsk or Yakutsk.

I'm a college guy from France who went to Sweden with a bunch of friends, we got an airbnb in Stockholm. Yes there are a lot of non white people but also a lot of white people. Before we landed to Stockholm we struggled a little bit when we had to call our airbnb, a black guy came in and helped us, he said he lives in Sweden, but I actually didn't hear him once speak Swedish, it was kind of weird, because if you live in the country you should speak the language or be learning it, I felt like I could speak more Swedish than him (thanks Babbel), other than that, he was really nice to us ! Swedish people are shy but when you ask for help they will help you and it felt really nice. Not like in Paris, fuck Parisians, nobody likes them. I think, we, French can relate to the "let me some space" thing going in on in Sweden (in the bus, metro, etc), if there's plenty of room for someone to sit and he then proceeds to sit next to me, I would be like "Wtf do you want ?" and then move. It's actually not that cold in Sweden, at least in Stockholm. I can see why some people are afraid of immigrants, it's kind of the same in Paris, in some places you have a lot of them, in some others, you don't see any. I think that you think there are a lot of them because they're concentrated in a small area, hence the impression that you think there's a lot of them.

There are probably a small amount of anti-alcohol people as well. some younger people tend to go out drinking at a bar and/or drinks at a friends place, might go to friends place before or after visiting the bar

In some English-speaking countries (or countries where English is commonly learned as a second language) mostly former colonies, educated youth can converse in English pretty well but still retain an accent. I think you should try to look for things that we tend to "skip over" when talking in Swedish, such as "rs"(we tend to turn it into a sh-sound), "rl"(may drop the r), etc - so when we have to pronounce these in English words we won't be as used to them so we "struggle" a bit more with them. Another example is the letter z. Unless it's a common used word, I think we are more likely to pronounce it like a normal s because that's how we do it in Swedish. Personally I can usually hear when it's a Swede talking English. I watch a lot of gaming streamers and such and I think it's easy to hear when it's a Swede :P

The language thing is kind of a spectrum... right? I've heard "many kinds of swedish" (=dialects, in movies) and not all of it is easy for me to understand. For me it goes like this: Finnish swedish = I can do that! (easy) Swedish swedish = I manage (denpends on a characher) norwegian = funny, sounds like swedish, sometimes totally understandable danish = no... looks like swedish, kind of, but sounds more like german icelandic = can't really even read... some odd letters... aaaand the list would go on from here with dutch, german, french, english... they are all related, after all. It's like it gets further from swedish and closer to english and then it goes on with spanish, portugal and italy... and so on.

I have to disagree with you on the "Sweden is safe"-part. I grew up in getto Sweden... - I've avoided going alone through the local center my entire life in fear of being assaulted. - I've got a few friends who live near there and can't avoid it, they have been assaulted. - Here, drugs are everywhere. - One day when I was a kid our school sent all the pupils home because of a murder in an apartment next to the school. - The same school is one of the most troublesome in my town. - Stores in the area, owned by irresponsible people, have committed multiple crimes and eventually closed down for legal reasons. - Stores owned by responsible people have had to close down because of death threats to the personal. - BUT, recently a lot of police have been patrolling the area which makes it feel a bit more safe. This part of Sweden does exist, it really does. I bet it's hard to understand unless you have seen it for yourself. But it is not a made up story. And it has to be brought to light! I can answer some questions better here. Are Swedes white?: Yes, ethnic Swedes are white. Are Swedes Slavic?: No, Ethnic Swedes are called "Svear" and don't originate from the Slavic root. Though non ethnic Swedes can of course be Slavic.

To answer the first question: yes we are. In comparison to America all our political parties are kinda socialist. Even the ones that don't see themself as "the left" still have some socialist views that an American would consider socialistic

I think the reason why you're really good at English are: - because of the Swedish is pretty near to English (much more then other languages like for example Italian) - because lots of film aren't dubbed (I mean this will sound weird for u but in Italy literally every film is dubbed) - and because of in Sweden English is more likely to be known by older generations (I mean my grandparents aren't able to understand a word in English and for my parent generation too is really a strange thing speaking English) Sorry for my bad English your video are perfect man 😉

Well, generally I agree that Sweden is safe. Not every part of Sweden is safe, or that depends on what you consider as "safe". I live in a so-called "No-go-zone" in Sweden. On average there is around 1 car fire every month. Half a year ago there were 3 car fires on my parking lot alone. I've received death threats for being a white Swede in an Arabic heavy area, all I did was walking. I've seen an ambulance being robbed when it was out on a call. I've seen a large fight including over 70 people (Arabic/Muslims) according to the police report, 1 guy was cut with a knife near his throat, he was lucky to survive. Last year there were 2 grenade explosions, two big holes in the ground were left from it. I often hear how my neighbor abuse his wife above me (Muslim family), the police claim they don't have enough resource to get out in this area and asked me to go up knocking on their door. If you consider stuff like this as safe then yeah, I guess the myth of "no-go-zones" or "problematic zones" is just a myth after all. I personally don't consider these areas as safe, and I'm glad that I am moving away from here soon. Majority of the Arabic people that live here are great people, but there are extreme Islamist living here too, that other Muslims are being terrorized by them. As a Swede, I'm actually fairly safe in areas like these outside of the things I mentioned. Other immigrants have it worse. So if you are denying these problems and claiming they are myths, doesn't that make you a racist? You are neglecting issues related to immigrants and non-white people.

on the topic if swedes understand islandic; I'd like to pitch in that we strange nuggets on the island of Gotland may actually understand islandic mainly due to the fact that the local native language called Gutamål is strongly related to islandic. One islandic friend could actually understand gutamål effortlessly. That said, gutamål is slowly dying as it is running out of fashion and that is a bit sad to me.

Sweden is a very safe country, the areas with lots of immigrants are poorer and compared to the rest of Sweden it is more dangerous. These areas are not nice places to live for native swedes.

it's not the race it's the culture that's messed up. People of every color can be good human beings that i would love to be friends with. And people of every color can be rapists, thiefs and just down right dangerous people. It has nothing to do with race, it sometimes has something to do with poverty and/or with mental illness...but also alot of it is cultural. I live in an area where most families are through generations swedish, and we have some families that have lived here for a few years and adapted to swedish mentality and funcions well in society. And we also have some newcomers that are an absolute pain in the ass to be truthful, not saying everyone is like that but for many it takes time to adjust to a new country. For example: Most native swedes thinks it's wrong to have more kids than they can afford to give a good lifestyle, so most swedes would rather protect themselves or in some situations abort their child rather than giving birth to a child they can't feed or provide basic needs to. Also most swedes find it embarrassing to beg on the streets and wouldn't do it even if they were starving, they would rather offer themselves to work in places or try to come up with some craft that they can do to earn money. Most swedish people find it embarassing to have your 5-8 year old in a stroller on the regular, they can walk on ther own feet. While many immigrants are seen with older children in strollers just because they can ride bus both for free as long as they bring a stroller/pram. Most swedish kids are taught from an early age that steeling is very wrong, while unfortunatley many immigrant children in sweden seem to learn ways to scam people out of money. I work at a store, and we have so many immigrant children that steal on the daily there. WHY does it happen? because immigrant children are 1. allowed togo outside alone, or just watching their younger children. Swedish 6 year olds would never get to go to the store alone. but immigrant children that are 6 are watching their 2 year toddler brother and has an infant in a stroller while going without money to the store...that happens alot where i live. And the older kids have stories to tell just to get you to feel sorry for them and give them money...one said that her mom and dad are working several miles away and she is left at home with her younger siblings and they are hungry, can i please give her money so that she can buy candy to him...It's a thing she says to get candy just...her family is home, she is straight up lying because i know who her parents are. It's like some immigrants just get child after child and don't bother teaching them nearly anything. And the cultural view of women is horrible, really disgusting. I went off in my own thought now, i'm not racist...i'm just saying my reality how i see it, and it's a cultural problem. zero procent a racial one, only cultural.

Sweden is wealthy because we have much natural resources, so after the Second World War in which we didn't directily participate, we could sell our products to the rebuilding Europe. It is also because we had a high literacy rate thanks to Protestantism which means we could have more developed industries. Among others. :)

Sweden was once a land with three kings where each kings land was name diffrently where one of them was called Svealand and after a few years thise three kings merged under the banner of the king in svealand therefor it became know as sweorice came to be. and that is also why we have the three crowns on sport jersys and such,and then we changed it into Sweden to become more of a land ran by the peapole and not by the royal family hope this helped

Ethnic swedes are white, but a big part of the swedish population are slavic because a lot of refugees came here to get away from the war in former yugoslavia. More recently, we have a lot of refugees who are trying to get away from the wars in Syria and Africa, and mixed in with those are golddiggers who want to live in a country that will give them money and don't expect anything in return. Some swedish women find these men exciting and don't find out, until it's to late, that commiting to a muslim husband is to commit yourself to a lifetime of slavery. Some women of the muslim faith find US exciting and if they can find a swedish man who wont mind dodging her relatives for the rest of his life, then it can go that way too.
@emsi76276 жыл бұрын
wha- ?? First of all it depends on what people you would call the ethnic ones (Sami?) Second of all, I laugh at people who say "Syria and AFRICA" like it's not a whole ass continent ??? + Having a muslim husband does not mean you're committing to a "lifetime of slavery". That's stereotyping.
@tommiejonsson89526 жыл бұрын
Dude. Syria is in the middle-east, right next to Israel. When I say Ethnic swedes, I'm referring to those who came up from the continent in the migration-era - i.e the 6th to 7th century - or rather, the descendants of those. Who layed the foundation to the nation (unintentional rhyme) that would become Sweden.
@emsi76276 жыл бұрын
I was referring to the Africa bit of your comment but ok
@tommiejonsson89526 жыл бұрын
The way I read it, you meant that Syria was a part of Africa, but it is not. Syria - and the rest of the middle-east is in Asia. Africa ends at the Arabian peninsula, which borders Israel on the west side.

Then it's a misunderstanding. I was saying that people often say Africa as a country, which it isn't, that's why I reacted.

I would say they are muslims based on the pictures, but Sweden forbids statistics and any sort of racial identification on crimminals. Actually, they don't even stop crimminals because that's racist, right?
@adriano74446 жыл бұрын
Oh, and by the way, it's interesting how you mention the failings of racially diverse countries like the ones in America to defend Sweden's diversity politics. But do go on, turn Sweden into Brasil.
@Banzeken6 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that it's nowhere close to becoming less than first-world. If you're going to say anything about a country you have most likely never visited lately, make sure you have *been* there before fabricating half-truths. Burning of cars has been going on in the *largest* cities since many years before the most recent refugee wave and is in all likelihood unrelated to religion and ethnicity. The most recent cases were co-ordinated, again, most probably as a means to affect public opinions right before the election. Please define "diversity politics" and why we should be worried about them any time soon.
@adriano74446 жыл бұрын
Banzeken Sweden has been taking migrants since the 60s, so the argument that cars burning is something "normal because it's from years ago" is just bad. That also completely ignores how this issue became worst right now. Crime is going up, and according to statistics (before Sweden decided to ban them) about 70% of those crimes are made by refugees, so it is something that might be affected by culture. Also according to statistics, only 5% of refugees taken in 2016 found jobs, by the way. You also doesn't need to go to a place to know if it's shit or not. Facts and statistics more than suffice and are worth more than any anedoctal evidence you get from going there. For example, They marry and fuck children in Yemen, do you think it is a good country or a bad country? what do you think happens when you accept people from Yemen into your country?

And now for the 2nd question. I went to school in malmö, and my school was located in the centre of where all the crimes happend. And no, malmo is not safe. Rest of Sweden is. In malmo there is alot of gang fighting and it's the kind of gangs that don't care about anyone. For example: someone got shot 20m outside my school at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. They won't shot you but will do anything for money. So... Sweden is safe in general but if you can, just avoid malmö. Lund is a town 20km alway and there is super safe.

nisse ok?
