Many nail techs in America don't care about the health of the nails after the artificial nails are removed. I wish more technicians were like you.

Corina Roof I do nails and find that they don't want to pay extra for the time that is spent doing nails and keeping them healthy. I am picky about that not many in my area is. They want the in and out in an hour but that comes along with damaged and trashed nail beds.

I'd gladly spend more time and money to have my nails in good shape, but in all my life (I'm old) I've never had a nail tech give 2 hoots about my nails, so I have experienced the opposite.

I wish more nail techs were as precise as you. In my life I have gone to a dozen salons to have my acrylics done and I am rarely happy. I do speak up and show photos and explain exactly the color and shape I want. Usually it is this exact coffin shape. Most of them get frustrated. I actually had a guy the last time I got them done argue with me about what a “coffin” shape was. In 15 years I have yet to find a tech who will do what I ask and be gentle. I’ve been nicked more times than I can count, my nails have been wavey and bumpy, the shape is off, they are crooked, uneven lengths, ugh it’s always something. I am admittedly pretty picky with my nails bc I know exactly what I want them to look like but I never get the results I pay for. I think all nail techs should have to watch this video as a reference!
@lnuma926 жыл бұрын
Rosa Kennicott Ouch. As a nail tech of 4 years, there's a way you can tell who's a good nail tech and isn't. Usually the good ones give you a quick consultation and ask you questions BEFORE the service even starts. Like what do you do for work, what medium you're used to, and what your lifestyle is. That way, they can figure out what nail shape, length, or medium would be right for you (acrylic, gel, dip powder system, silk wraps, etc). Next, they'd look at the health of your nails. Do the hands have sign of infections or infection pustules? Are their any skin conditions that may affect the client (like contact dermatitis)? Does the client have any allergies? If I even SEE an injury on the fingers that may have my service harm my client, I won't even touch her even if she protests. Your overall safety is important and I can't jeopardize that just to make a quick 40 dollars. If your tech tries to get friendly, keep trying to push more sales onto you, never really communicates with you when they do something extra that'll be a charge extra, be wary.
@MariaLunaDelRey Жыл бұрын
My current nail tech is so rough- she even rips my acrylics off by using a tip and swiping it under to get it off… it hurts so bad. Last time she filed the skin of my finger off… I’m watching these videos so I can just do it on my own now… it’s so hard to find a tech who cares.

I had a nail techs "assistant" who was prepping my nails and was filing them. One of the things I hate is how hot the e- file can get when they are filing the acrylic down to prep. Anyway, she literally burned me to the point where I instinctively yanked my hand away. I told her she burned me....she ROLLED HER EYES!!! And mind you, I had warned her already that the filing was getting hot. Oh, I was livid! I got up, told the nail tech what happened, and the nail tech said nothing. So I left. I also went to every review site online and left a bad review. This actually happens a lot, and I would think that you're trained to not burn your client. I mean, you don't need a degree in science to understand friction causes heat! And then to have such an "non" reaction, and roll your eyes as if the client is overreacting? Whatever happened to customer service? Or just caring about your client in general?

All nail techs have their own techniques and tricks! It’s super unfair to judge anyone in any trade when you don’t really know yourself what they are doing and why. As long as the tech is not hurting you, they are taking time to protect your real nails and you like your end result, don’t be such a hardass client if not needed! Coming from a nail tech trainee who sees a lot of clients come into our shop acting like they know more than the ones who were formally trained in what they do because they watched a couple videos

You remind me so much of the wonderful woman who is my mentor and was my instructor, Cindy Lee Niles. I was too young to take the course in FL when I first came to her in 1993 but she let me shadow her for 2 years and finally I got to take her course in 1996. She was just like you, calm, organized and wanted all of her students to not only pass the course and state exam but utilize it to make a career and to love doing it. Although new products/techniques have come along, the core of what she taught is what you are teaching to techs and those interested in doing nails. Designs and glitter are awesome but you have to have a solid, properly structured nail to build on. So happy to see how you care about helping the next generation of techs (and even us older pros lol). Natural talent is awesome but proper training is everything.

I honestly had no idea how to properly care for my natural nails while doing acrylic. I was completely taking off my acrylics each time so that I could change the color and my nails underneath were sooooo flimsy and red that when the nail techs would file them I would be in a TON of pain. I had to stop getting them done for a long time and I started watching your videos and I realized that I could just do a gel polish on top instead of changing the acrylic powder each time 🤦🏻♀️ I’ve started doing them myself at home. Just depends on the scenario, if you have full colour and then want French for example, depending on the type that you want we’d have to do a new set. Or if the acrylics are getting old or discoloured, etc

I love watching your videos, Suzie. Its extremely calming. Though I will never get my nails done (because the nail techs dont give a crap) and because my natural nails are usually pretty healthy it is still nice to watch your videos. I got my nails done twice in my life and both times the nail tech made me bleed and my finger swelled up.

I was never fully satisfied with my acrylic nails, and my natural nails were always really damaged afterwards. Now that I found you I realize how many things the nail technician was doing wrong. Thank you so much I love all your videos and wish you could do my nails!

I want to try doing a fill on my own after watching this video. I got my nails done about a week and a half ago and wanted to just change the color. Thanks Suzie!
