Nevermind!! I found the polyatomic ion chart in my book. Thanks, great vid!

SIR! how did u get Titanium (IV) oxide in TiO2? i dont seem to understand this in my chemistry classes. please help :))
@chemhelps11 жыл бұрын
Remember that the oxide ion has a 2- charge. Since there are two of them, it is a 4- charge that must be balanced out by the titanium. Also, note that it is not titanium dioxide because it is a combination of a metal with a nonmetal, which makes it ionic, but only molecular compounds (those made from two nonmetals) are named using the prefixes (di, tri, etc.). (That said, in the real world, you will often see it labeled as titanium dioxide, but this deviates from the standard naming practices.)

I have a question. Why is Cu3(PO4)2, Copper (l) Phosphate and not copper (lll)?
@chemhelps11 жыл бұрын
Don't forget you have two Copper ions to divide that 2+ charge over. That is why it is Copper (I)... There are two of them to balance the 2- of the oxygen, while it would only take one Copper (II) ion, so Copper (II) oxide is CuO, while Copper (I) oxide is Cu2O.

for the first one how are you supposed to know that CO3 is carbonate?? is that memorized material?

I'm sorry but i coudn't understand when to use suffix 'ide' or 'ite' or 'ate'..And when to specify the charge.. E.g- CO3 is carbonate not carbonite..How will i know it.. Plss help

its because we dont know the charges for transition elements. Therefore to balance the equation we must know the charge of the other element/compound. The charge for Oxygen is -2, and in the TiO2 compound, its charge will then be -4 because there is 2 oxygen atoms. Therefore for it to be balanced, titanium's charge must be 4, hence the written equation of Titanium (IV) Oxide.

Hi pls I need your help on this.what is the mass of 0.05mole of chlorin (molar mass of cl =35.5
@joellado65257 жыл бұрын
Daniel Musa 0.05x 1 divided by 6.022x10^23 power.
@jordandarst36326 жыл бұрын
This guy that gave you an answer doesn't have a clue as to what hes talking about. He seen moles and just threw out Avogadro's number lol. You just need to memorize the formula Mass= Molar mass x number of moles. So you need to multiply 0.05m times 35.5g/mol. Its that easy.

how did you know it was titanium (IV)?? I don't get how you got that just from 2 >_
@handledishandle8 жыл бұрын
Hello sir, the Ti is located in the IVB group, it is not in the first or the second group like Ca or K, if the metal is located in the B group like the Ti is, that means, you have to calculate it's charge from the other ingredient which is the O2 in this situation, O itself has a charge of -2, but you got 2 O's so it will have a charge of 2*-2 which equals -4, so the Titanium must have a charge of 4 so it would be balanced. If you got a B group metal and a non-metal you do the roman numeral to the middle of the name of the compound.

From oxidation number you need to first find out the oxidation number and then include it after the element name
@forever2710111 жыл бұрын
but i thought you were supposed to neutralize the equation, why is it that in some other equations its 2. like eg: Sn 4+ 2+ and O2- and the answer is tin (II) oxide, that makes sense because 2+ (-2) equals 0 sorry its Cu 2+ 1+ and O 2- woops lol

so im doing this work sheet and they give you the formula and you have to give the name. So i went and looked at the answers online and go confused with this one. So its Cu2O (pretend that 2 is small and at the bottom) and the answer is copper (I) oxide. i broke the equation down and got Cu 2+ and O 2- . 1+ wouldnt it be copper (II) oxide? 2 balences out the equation!!! at least thats pretty much how it is for the majority. HELP!!

To understand this first u have to learn the chemical names with their formula then automatically u will understand this... 😂😂
