The announcement of it being premium just because of it looks and feels was laughable to say so early. The problem with anything RK3588 related, with Rockchip's latest statement about the SOC, for all round use it is essentially dead from a manufacturer/vendor support and the only hope for it's future, already long into the production cycle lies with communities trying to figure out drivers etc. For industrial uses it may have the required elements to be of use but for the home user, like the RK3399, this has to be considered a lemon. Two dud SOC's in a row for Rockchip's top of the line processors. Only Android will have some of the required hardware accelerated drivers installed by default but just look at what versions of Android the RK3688 is stuck at. 12, or if you are lucky, 13. Behind the curve and no indication of getting better. Invest with caution and open eyes.

I have a radxa rock5b (rk3588) running all my home assistant stuff/energy management/vpn/... running from an nvme on Armbian since about two years. In the beginning I was stuck at an older custom kerrnel. It was ok for me since I ran docker containers and some usb-to-serial devices for the energy management part. The last year, year and a half the kernel development really took off (thanks to Collabora amongst others) and now I'm running Armbian on the 6.1 kernel. I'm aware it's 'community maintained' (armbian wise), so for industrial applications that's a big no-no. At first I ran everything from raspberry pi 4's, but I had stability issues with booting from USB, although I ran everything from solid POE. I then ditched the rpi4's for this rock5b board (nvme boot, better performance,...) and until now I'm very happy with it. If support for this board would stop, I would switch to a lowpower x86 system (some mini pc) and ditch ARM devices altogether.

Am getting this right here... you have to buy the expansion board if you want to have wifi and a m.2 drive?
@TechnicallyUnsure17 күн бұрын
You are correct. For M.2 you need an expansion board, for Wifi, you just need to plug the Wifi card to the back of the board.
