@@CupcakeJemma Another of our Canadian desserts that you might enjoy is the butter tart. It doesn't taste like butter, but that's one of the ingredients. I've always referred to them as just "tarts". My grandmother and mother made them all of the time, and they have to be my all-time favourite.

@Dana-cv1gf2 жыл бұрын
@@CupcakeJemma They are fabulous! Originated in Ontario, Canada and I am sure they must be the official Ontario goodie because you can get them everywhere in Ontario. They are a Canadian staple. They are made with butter, eggs, brown sugar, corn syrup and vanilla and poured into pastry tart shells and baked. You can add raisins, pecans, walnuts, chocolate chips etc to the batter.
@hanjoyable2 жыл бұрын
@@CupcakeJemma Hahaha, of course! Invented about 120 years ago in Barrie, Ontario they're mini tarts (muffin sized or smaller) made with a short crust pastry. The absolutely divine filling is gooey and caramel-y, composed mostly of brown sugar and butter with egg, vanilla and heavy cream. The fillings and consistency become very polarizing... some prefer a runny filling, others like theirs firm, some like their tarts studded with nuts (especially walnuts) or raisins while for many, plain is best. There are also many more creative variations popping up lately such as toffee, coconut or chocolate. Ask any Canadian about quintessential Canadian foods, and usually these are near the top of the list behind beer and poutine 😉 PS: yours was the first channel I subscribed to when I joined youtube! Lots of love! 💛💛💛

@@CupcakeJemma A lot of recipes also call for a bit of regular white vinegar it cuts the sweetness. Recipes are based down from grandmothers! Thank you from Canada...had these all my life .. can't wait to try this recipe! Was wondering if I could OMIT the walnuts (nut allergy) or could just increase the coconut by 80g
@terrymovold43642 жыл бұрын
As a fellow Canadian who's been eating them for 55+ years, and making them for about 50 years, there's no problem omitting the nuts. Be careful if adding an equal amount of extra coconut though as it absorbs moisture & could make the base too crumbly. If you want an extra punch of chocolate, maybe add a 50/50 mix of chocolate chips or chunks and coconut . From Alberta, Canada!
