Does anybody else think that Tommy Shaw is one of the nicest and most talented people in the world? Just a classy dude. And to appear with one of the Wilson sisters who I love just as much. Just too cool. Tommy's guitar alone blows me away and then that voice. He was given a huge big box of talents. Nancy too. Listening to her and Ann sing in harmony is quite the treat. In fact Tommy and Nancy both play killer guitar and sing so well. Not surprised to see them together. Thanks for doing this Tommy, Nancy, and Styx.

Too bad he couldn't sort things out with Dennis De Young. Two greatly creative people that just couldn't find a way to work together after so many years of success. I don't like that Shaw kicked De Young out of his own band.

I saw him on Darryls House, and he admits that he doesn't read music. Really surprised to learn this, as Styx's music contains so many classical and Baroque elements.
@lobitome Жыл бұрын
I met him in the 90's when he came to town for something unrelated to music, but the DJ interviewing him invited him to a remote they were doing nearby, and he accepted. I took an extended lunch to watch Tommy just play requests and an impromptu concert for just a few dozen people. Afterwords as he was getting into the limo outside, I asked him for an autograph, and he happily did so in the pouring rain, but not before telling me to make sure I made it to see the Damn Yankees later that year. Even as people were trying to rush him into the car, he wanted to make sure he was making a fan happy.

Styx is one of the most overlooked and awesome rock bands ever. And Heart as well. Heart is the greatest rock band ever with a lady singer. Great video. Nancy Wilson is one hot granny.
@dlwseattle2 жыл бұрын
How can anyone say Styx is "one of the most overlooked rock bands ever"? Styx had eight songs that hit the top 10, as well as 16 top 40 singles. They were the first musical act to have four straight triple-platinum albums and they sold 20 million records between 1976 and 1984. Most overlooked ever? I'd say the Motors or the Soft Boys along with hundreds (maybe thousands) of other bands are a better fit to the moniker "overlooked and awesome rock bands".
@jennifersman79902 жыл бұрын
@@dlwseattle I’d say “overlooked” in the sense they never got much respect from the music press and the more of a control freak Dennis DeYoung became the more they moved away from the hard rocking sound they had on their earlier albums. Gotta side with Smoke 14 on this one. Sure, it was a downer when Dennis DeYoung left the band, after “ Mr Roboto” if I recall correctly. But Tommy didn’t “ruin anything “. His stellar work on The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, and Paradise Theatre albums among others propelled Styx into superstardom. Perhaps Dennis was miffed because they had become a more guitar-driven band? They were loaded with all very talented musicians.

Every generation takes pride in their musicians and music of the time. I can say without question that the 60's and 70's were the very best for me as I grew up during those two decades and had a chance to play some of the music. If younger generations had the opportunity to actually see and hear the groups perform live during the time, they would have experienced the same greatness we did back then. These songs carry a lot of good memories for me and I feel blessed to have been a part of.
