I absolutely LOVE the attention to detail in this mod. The mameluk you see riding alone with napoleon was called Roustam Raza. He was Armenian but, a slave in his early years, he came to serve (as a free man) in the army of a pro-napoleonic Egyptian bey. As Napoleon went back to France, Roustam asked to be put in his service. He followed him around until Napoleon's exile in 1814, as a bodyguard among other things (nothing ambiguous, he just fulfilled a variety of tasks for the Emperor). I think it's really cool the bodyguard unit looks like that, I'd never seen it before.

Just a little info regarding the pronunciation of the names of the french units (eventhough you probably already know this), the "e" is the french equivalent of the english "st", "nd" or "rd". 12e is actually short for "douzième", which means twelfth (or 12th). Waterloo would never have happened if the Russians hadn’t beaten Napoleon’s Grande Armée. In fact, Prussia had already been beaten and was forced to contribute men to the Grande Armée. The Prussians, Austrians, etc. only turned on Napoleon after the Russians broke him. (Also, the battle of waterloo wasn’t really instrumental in the defeat of napoleon. He had already lost his empire and been forced to abdicate. The Only thing that was achieved at waterloo was the restoration of the Bourbons who would be deposed in less than two decades.)

@ 1:30 EDIT: yes, I know you're joking. But you'd be surprised...anyway: They weren't terrified. In fact, the Russian commander was severely criticized for his constant retreats. Some even accused him of cowardice and even treason. The got what they wanted, when the Czar replaced him with the more aggressive Kutuzov--and nearly half their army was killed and wounded at Borodino as a result (not because Kutuzov sucked--he didn't. It was rather because the army wasn't really ready, and yet were very stubborn--a great combination for mass casualties). So the Russians were left with no choice by to keep retreating, and focus on harrying Napoleon's supplies, wherever possible. The survivors weren't thrilled though, since that meant surrendering Moscow--Russia's sacred capital.

Napoleon was superior on a open field batte and because off the bad coordination and some bad communication mistakes at the battle of Austerlitz(1805) the russians couldn't do anything then run because they hadn't the manpower and equipment to fight against the French in an open field. Please don't be every time against the russians because you are American and between the two superpower is rivalry. (Sorry my English isn't good) Enjoying your content really much please upload more ntw3
@pierredbss96384 жыл бұрын
At Austerlitz, the Russians actually outnumbered the French (and they were the only nation to be able to do so) and completely outgunned them, with nearly twice as many cannons. Apart from the few communication fuckups, which did happen but didn't have a decisive impact on the battle, the reason of their defeat is that the Russian chain of command fell right into Napoleon's trap. With the exception of Kutuzov, the Russian generals, many of them newly appointed noblemen wanting to impress the Tsar, wanted to charge head on (more or less) into Tilnitz to crush the French right, leaving the Pratzen heights close to undefended, which they did. But Tilnitz held on thanks to the arrival of Davout's corps, which had been called back from Vienna by Napoleon the night before. Napoleon then only had to take the strategic position at Pratzen, abandoned the night before on purpose and in expectation of the Russian reaction, to divide the enemy army in two and defeat each side separately. His attack was screened by the fog, surprising the Russian batteries and preventing them from shooting at the attackers as they were marching uphill. So what you said is completely wrong ; at Austerlitz, Russia had a very clear advantage in both manpower and equipment over France. But that's probably not emphasized in Russian schools, much like we don't speak about the war of 1870 too much in France, so that's probably why you had such limited knowledge of this matter. All those things apart, I hope I taught you something and bid you good day!

Actually in the real Napoleonic last stand at waterloo, it was the Prussians that gave the final and deadliest blow to the French forces. Napoleon was sort of winning against the English forces until the arrival of Blücher and Prussian armies. Even wellington famously said, Night or the Prussians must come. - Wellington so Prussia too played a major role in the ending of Napoleonic wars, not just British and Russians. cause if the emperor managed to win at waterloo, then there is no stopping him. Also if there was no Russian advantage of vastness of land during Russian campaign, napoleon and Grande Armée would have steamrollered the Russian empire.
