@@frankpeter6851 It kind of makes sense if you know the backstory. Gary Busey was originally cast to be in the movie but he dropped the film for another project. Before dropping his role he wrote this song for the movie. Having written such a good song the people in charge thought it was too good to leave out of the movie. My guess that it was left out of the soundtrack is because it is basically the only song in the movie that wasn’t written by one of the cast. I assume It was left out of the soundtrack for that reason.

... it was the trio's early 'hit' protest song ... so even the Bluebird regulars would have known it. Funny how a 'Tom' performance of it by Carradine is on the soundtrack LP, but this gem isn't. Even with Geraldine Chaplin's 'I don't make it a habit to gossip with servants' unavoidable, it would have been fantastic to have it on a record.

Watch the eye contact between Keith Carradine and Tina Raines - he was doing more than coaching her. This film is full of actors playing musicians, not just musicians but stars... and they made us believe, with their sincere performances and with a little magic from Richard Baskin to polish out the arrangements and solid Nashville musicians (only Vassar Clements is credited by name). Ronnie Blakley's performance is absolutely stunning.

The actress singing does look a lot like Emmylou Harris in the movie. I read an interview with her and apparently she was pretty terrified filming this scene knowing millions of people would be watching her sing. If I recall the interview correctly I believe she said she would have rather run down the street naked than sing on camera. She did great in my opinion because I always assumed she was chosen because she could carry this tune. Never occurred to me while watching the movie she had never sang before in public.

Since there seems to be an almost one-to-one correspondence in the movie between fictional characters and real-life country artist I always thought the Christina Raines character was supposed to closely resemble Emmilou Harris at that time. Gary Busey wrote it. I love this movie. You know the idea of having a family with deaf children sort of hits you after you've watched the film and begin thinking about some of the scenes where Jeff Goldblum ,Barbara Harris, or Shelley Duvall communicate completely with their behaviors. Come to think of it, Lilly's deaf son spoke more than any of the characters played by these people. I wonder what the critics made of this movie. They probably said it was awful, but what do they know?
