I lived in Cincinnati (not far from Erlanger) at the time, and I remember this. What isn't mentioned is the fact that it wasn't just rain, it was sleet, and the roads were icing up rapidly. You can even kind of see this in the video when the driving officer gets out of the car and has to walk very carefully to avoid slipping. The whole area at the time was a giant accident zone. The problem was, relatively few people were aware of the icing conditions, and only discovering how slick the roads really were AFTER it was already too late. Of course, in that area, the knowledge of 'treacherous conditions' does little to slow anyone down, and that stretch of road is VERY busy even at the best of times. In short, I have some sympathy for the truck driver. It may not have been entirely his fault. And I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt.
@xaenon7 жыл бұрын
Like I said, in instance of this video, the roads started icing up before people realized it. You'd get into your car, and it was just rain. By the time you got to the freeway it was a skating rink. And there is always that breed of driver who just shrugs, turns the cruise control on at 70 mph, and then has no clue whatsoever why he is upside down in a ditch.
@xaenon7 жыл бұрын
***** YOU do. I do. Most people don't. It's exactly why they tell everyone to be extra careful in the first 10 minutes of a rain storm, because not only is the rain stirring up all the oil and shit from the road surface, but 95 percent of the population is oblivious to the fact that rain, snow, and ice make the road surface slick.
@xaenon7 жыл бұрын
***** I should amend my statement; I was wrong to say MOST drivers are oblivious. Most drivers probably are decent enough behind the wheel; but there is a fairly large group of people who just don't have common sense, and they muck it up for everyone else.

FedEx drivers are forced to drive too fast. Those tractor trailers are full to the brim with packages, tens of thousands of dollars worth, and if the driver doesn't make it to the airport/plant on time, he will likely be fired. It's an unfortunate system, but blame the company, not the driver.
@charlieberry2828 жыл бұрын
+Rainor BS son, the trucks are governed and usually have layovers at terminals anyway, why lie? Serious why the hell do you lie?
@Pro-RTen8 жыл бұрын
+Charlie Berry My truck's not governed. I could do 100 mph if I kept the pedal to the ground. And I contract with Fedex Ground hauling doubles. Most of UPS and Fedex trucks are not governed. But Fedex gives plenty of time to deliver trailers, they usually figure times based on a average speed of 47 mph. Fedex is actually really big on safety. Can't comment on their LTL stuff though (Fedex Freight).

you have no idea what you are talking about that was a FedEx freight truck not a package hauler. We are not force to run and all freight trucks are governed at 65mph. Safety is top priority with management and drivers damn near run this place. People like you spreading misinformation is partially why the general public has unfavorable views on this industry

To those defending FedEx and their drivers, stop making excuses for them. A professional driver shuts down when road conditions are dangerous, they don't keep on driving putting themselves and the motoring public at risk. No load is worth it, and it won't fly in a court case involving millions of dollars. Consider this: an investigation was conducted earlier this year and it was determined that FedEx was involved in over 700 crashes in 2016 ALONE!! This came from a woman that Dave Nemo from SiriusXM Road Dog Trucking was interviewing. Some were due to 4 wheelers, but most were driving while fatigued, and driving during hazardous road conditions. Also, it has come to light that there is indeed pressure from upper management to drive and get the load through, regardless of the weather. Upper management's position is that if the state snowplows can get through and keep the roads open, their trucks can get through and there's no reason their trucks should shutdown. I happened to be just North of Toledo, in lower Michigan when this crash happened and when the local news anchors in Toledo were reporting this, the disgust on their faces was obvious.

Fedex are the worst, UPS isnt far behind. I can distinctly remember being passed by a Fedex double, on I-80, there was a whole line of us trucks going about 30, due to slick roads...and fedex went by us at about 55...needless to say, we passed him in the ditch about 1/2 mile up the road. Fedex drivers are stupid.
@df0x197713 жыл бұрын
@cybermoss1 You're 100% right on the money there! People in general are ignorant ass faces. Driving truck is extremely dangerous in and of itself let alone driving triple combination set ups. The cop in all honesty was taking too much time calming down the previous idiot who lost control of freaking regular non-commercial sized vehicle instead of securing the accident with flares on a dark bad weather night. To be a little fair though that semi was travelling a bit fast for the weather.
