I’ve had my ps5 for almost 3 years and just opened it up yesterday for the first time, it was basically immaculate. It only had the tiniest amount of dust on the fan (probably because it’s very open ventilated, I run a HEPA filtered air purifier always, and have no pets.) I vacuumed the two holes inside and gave it a good wipe down for the hell of it. I’ve never had any issues so far, and won’t be bothering with getting the slim…no reason to in my opinion.😅

Take the plates off , get a soft brush and a vacuum and clean the outs side regualrly and you'll be fine . I Vacuum out my Ps5 virtually every week .

Make sure the fan don’t spin while cleaning even if it’s unplugged because it uses kinetic energy meaning if it spins without power it can build up RPM and release it into your motherboard

Actually, it's more of a concern for the fan to be destroyed. It literally doesn't make enough power for that unless it's spinning at a high speed for a long time.

The original ps5 sucked dust right into the internals and heatsink, I see no reason why the slim wouldn't. Cleaning the fan alone won't be enough.

Get a dust filter on that fan. Also buy a vent fan plate for better cooling.

I wonder if having the console in a horizontal position is better in terms of dust build up? Like since the vents aren’t pointing straight up but rather to the side…

I had an overheating issue using it vertical, the moment I started having the console in a horizontal position the problem disappeared, so yeah, either way it's gonna be súper important to have a cover For the console For when you're not using it, also cleaning it at least once every month should help You with yours, stay safe man 💪

​@KmiloO13me Same! Mine would constantly shut off, soon as I put it horizontal it stopped and never did it again! But that's because the liquid metal covers the APU better when horizontal, when vertical it pulls downwards and creates dry spot because of gravity. So many stupid kids laugh at me for saying it but I was a technician for like 15 😂 there's a reason I never used liquid metal in a PC😂

Yes very true. My ps4 is still like new. Always when not playing a few days. I throw a dustless cloth over my ps4. Then before I turn it on. I take the cloth of and shake it out. You can quickly hoover in the side vents for dust once a year. For a good clean I will take it in. Or just remove cover. Take fan out and blow dust of with an air can. The ps5 slim I will get because it repairs better and cleans easier. Less screws and plates. Also I will put mine horisontally. Getting less dust from the top.

Is there a filter u can by so that the ps5 fan doesn't suck in dust deep into the console. I used work in industry where pc had airfilters installed in front of cabinet fan of pc. You would just vacuum the filters every so often and it help prevent dust getting into the pc.

T9 is what you need to unscrew the screws. In do not use microfiber it will scratch your gloss !!!

Loved the vid, can be very informative for new PS owners and your presentation was well done. A good tip to add is the four fan screws are not the same sizes and an easy way to remember which hole what screw goes into is by taking 4 different color paints and put a dot on each screw with each paint, then put a dot on the aluminum fan cover next to each screw with the matching color. Also those who have access to cans of air, youvshould use them to blow out the heatsink vents of the PS (point the straw of the can of air through the fan hole (after fans been removed) and angle it into ea vent of the heat sink. Then use a vacuum hose to suck all the loose dust out. Manual cleaning should be performed a minimum of every 6mo or if high volumes of dust accumulate on the intake vents, clean the console anytime this occurs. The console should not be left on 24/7 if you go to sleep your console should be off (this is purely common sense, yet some people just lack it). Keep the content coming you just got yourself another sub.

I've had 22 playstation consoles since Sony launched their first one: Bought, used, sold, & upgraded whenever it was time. lol 😃 so I always took care of them...
