It's finally here! Almost a year since we started (although we've filmed at various intervals throughout the last year!) About a year and a half ago I made a joke on Patreon about making Natsuki: The Movie. Suddenly everyone decided it was a good idea and off we went, to turn an amusing idea into reality. I learned a heck of a lot from producing this; from learning how to make half decent opening credit sequences and music videos, to attempting to tell a story over the period of an hour. It's been a fun struggle and above all I'm just looking forward to sharing Natsuki's life with you all behind the scenes. A HUGE shoutout to the Abroad in Japan Patreon community for making this happen. Also be sure to stick around for the three post credit scenes! Why not turn it into a fun drinking game; drink every time Natsuki smokes, drinks or swears! (Good luck with that)

I couldn't help but tear up when he was talking about his life and not being able to travel. I'm glad we got to see this side of him, that he could go to Europe to experience things that he's been wanting to do, and start making more dreams. I hope that Natsuki can find relaxation in his new dreams in a way that will allow him to quit smoking; for his sake, and Asami-san's...and also so he can keep putting smiles on everyone's faces for as long as humanly possible.

@@waltwhite8126 Same. I'm starting a job in insurance sales tomorrow. Usually, I hate sales jobs as I'm not good at it. But nearly a decade of working at call centers has broken me. I almost didn't do the interview because the company has mixed reviews...but I'm not going to let that stop me. The way I see it, nothing can be worse than returning to a call center. I'm selling life insurance, something always in need (so I'm not selling useless items nobody would want) and it's in need more than ever now. Plus, I can actually become licensed in other states with similar insurance laws without even living there, thus easily increasing my client list. That already shows that I have way more growth opportunities than any call center I've worked at. I'm excited and scared. I keep making lists of all the things I'll finally be able to do, all the debt I'll be able to pay off, how I can help my family, and then I get nervous about what if I'm not good and I fail? I don't know...but I do know I don't want to go back to before. I literally flaked out and was fired from my last two at-home jobs just because I was mentally burnt out from call centers. I can't get any lower than that.

If the company you are working for now reveals to be bad employers, don't think twice and look for another job in the same field. @@hippie_4762 I don't understand why they keep doing it. I get that they are used to it and it's considered honorable and all that. But it's been proven plenty of times that even an 8 hour work day might be too long. People are less productive when they work longer. So especially when you don't do production work, very often a 6 hour work day would be as productive as 8. But it will take a while for Japan to change. I would love to migrate, but I can't retire for quite a while and don't want to suffer though their work days.

@@markeldik7057 not everyone there works 15 hours a day or even 12. The average Japanese works 10 hours a day, and have 2 days off a week. The main thing is, is that they often work unpaid overtime because its in their culture to stay and finish a job, even if its outside of work hours.

@@nerdnairbnordnirbu9044 @jobobobo I know all that, but without looking into IT in japan as someone in IT its already kinda sucky over here. I imagine it can only be worse there. And I get that the pressure to just keep on going really fast isn't there so much as here, but I would much rather do something quickly than very leisurely. Difference in mentality I guess. Also with the pace I tend to work 10 hours would break me as well. I notice very much that like the first 4 hours I achieve like 2/3ds of what I do the entire day if not more.

This documentary is both well made and speaks volumes regarding friendship . A heart felt story of someone who we have grown very fond of in a short amount of time, mostly due to Natsuki's own magnetic personality. He is the guy that everyone wants to be around. He has this unpredictable nature of which you're never really sure what he is about to say, But when he does say something he has a knack for making everyone smile. The end of this documentary, when it shows Natsuki playing his song along with clips of their travel related to the song's verses, is completely brilliant! We see Natsuki stating a couple times that "life is balloons" and we think that's just silly and funny. However, when we get to see the lyrics of his song, it all suddenly makes sense. He says that Sid Vicious is "dead and buried", and "around no more", so he can't see him anymore. He says the same about Mona Lisa. He went to see Mona Lisa in Paris, but because he has already came back, she's "dead and buried" for him, since he can't see her anymore. That's the reason why "life is balloons". He says that he is a balloon himself because one day he will be realesed, set free, and he'll be able to reunite with what's "around no more". It's quite fascinating how he tries to explain such a concept through the better metaphor he could find with his simple vocabulary. He's not afraid of using his english even to express the deepest reflections. Overall, this documentary is surprisingly well made, both narratively and in terms of technical film making. The way it shows the relation between Natsuki's personality and his internal conflict, opposing to Japan's culture and society, constitutes a narrative masterpiece. Congratulations, Chris, you have done such a great job!

This project really sets you aside from a lot of KZbinrs. It's one thing to film yourself doing something interesting, and another thing entirely to plan and execute such a long and complicated project. With such a limited time on location, the planning and vision must have been amazingly clear. Most amazingly however, was the fact that I found myself emotionally involved in, and touched by what I had assumed would be a comedy piece, similar to your other content. You took a funny idea, and made something heartfelt, poignant, honest, caring and yes...funny. It really shows the breadth and skill you have as a content creator, and I really hope it helps bring you closer to your dream of become a fully fledged film maker. Bravo sir, bravo!
