Thanks for this visual of what coarse hair looks like compared to fine hair. 👍

This one was very educational (as usual! ;-) This comparison was very helpful in really showing the difference in thickness of hair strands, which is not the same as thickness of the overall head of locs, which is usually dependent on hair coarseness and density of hair follicles. Your visual also shows why for the most part, it is better to retwist with damp hair, as we want the tightest coil possible to form the loc faster. Nicw one, Seb!

Very nice assessment, Windsingerful! I didn't even know I was doing all that lol :) Btw, how's your set of locs progressing?

Hey, Seb! 31 months! Whoohoo! They are condensing and staying together more, but you know me...I think I'll always have those hairs that decide they wanna party ova the-ere, when I think they should party ova he-ere! We'll see what happens today - washday. I am getting my retwist time down to about 3 hours vs 4-5 (I'm slow as hell - LOLOLOL), and the longest are clavicle-length when I put them in front and at my shoulder blades in the back (I can tickle them when I reach up behind my back!). Still frizzy (after first week, they're frizzing out again), and I'm working with the crochet technique to try to get those hairs in, but my success is still illusive, as it seems they pop out later. Either I'm not doing it right, or my hair is like "Girl, please - we do what we want - recognize!" LOLOL... But they're mine, and the length is really starting to come in! Yours are shooting too!

Very good! I hope the wash went well! Three hours, while still long, is much better than 4-5 hours so congrats on the progress. I really believe that as they get longer, your retwist time will continue to lessen. If there's any truth to the theory that time plus habit will work together to train those defiant hairs, then we will both reach the promised land one day lol. I know what you mean about the hair coming out after maintenance. I tend to have more success when I let the new growth get longer before I decide to braid (I'll make a video once I have sufficient new growth) or crochet those hairs into the loc. For me, when those hairs are shorter, they can slip out a little more easily. I'm not sure how often you're retwisting these days but that might be something to look into if what you're doing isn't working for you. Well, enjoy what's left of your Sunday, lady :) Congrats on that length! I can't wait for you to do a video!

YES!!! :D So informative! The loc community really needed this video :) I find braid outs and curl rod sets really help giving the hair the appearance of being more voluminous. Although I would like to do this every week, I do not think that my fine hair would allow me to do this :/ thank you so much for this video! (P.S. Love your hand writing!)

Thank you very much, Naomi! I'm glad the video was helpful. Hopefully, it will find its way to many other loc'ers as well :)

I have 3c4a hair. It is thick. It is coarse. It gets dry easily. Moisture is a struggle for me. I have high porosity hair. Wet to dry styles never turn out well for me cause the shrinkage is real. Gel is not my friend. Neither are puddings and creams. My hair responds amazingly well to shea butter and oils on my permed/texlaxed hair before I straighten it after wash days. I'm currently texlaxed but I'm lazy with maintenance and suffer a lot of heat damage and split ends. I want to start my loc journey around Jan 2019 but I intend to do it after I get some new growth and slowly cut the damaged perm ends since I currently have chin length hair

That sounds like a good game plan for starting your loc journey. If you can, you should start it on the first day of the year. That'd be epic!

I have coarse hair on my head. I can relate. ☺️ Gels are a no for me. Herbal Oils and grease are for me.

I’m Latin/Arabic and although I lack similar hair to your scalp. My beard and your beard look quite the same, as well as my fathers hair is quite course. gotta look at some documents and look at my bloodlines, seems interesting. I’ve always wondered why my hair is very coiled.

Yeah, I'm not surprised because my beard hair is completely different than the hair on my head. Maybe we would find commonalities/overlap if we did an ancestry test. Very interesting stuff. Thanks for writing me!

What conditioner do you use on your locs

Design Essentials, but I use it on my unlocked hair.
