Ex-nuke here. My advisor had a classmate that re-enlisted to go nuke after being a SEAL for 4 years back in the 80's. Crazy. Also I had a classmate that was halfway through the nuke pipeline and got picked up for SEALs. They did NOT want him to go. Turns out his recruiter had promised he could and they tracked it down, proved it, let him test. A SEAL came down to FL, tested him, and off he went. But he got lucky. They did NOT want to let him go. Once they spend money on you, they don't like to let you switch jobs to spend more money on you. Also recruiters lie. Duh.

Me and two friends joined the military after high school I went Army and they went Navy and one of my friends joined to become part of a submarine crew and I think his 1st enlistment was 6-8 years but right before he left for bootcamp he started acting crazy and was in full blown panic and decided he didn't want to spend that much time underwater so he started using drugs before bootcamp but they never drug tested him so he was in bootcamp and started acting like an a-hole until they kicked him out but to this day he tells everyone he's a Navy vet although me and my best friend haven''t talked to him in years, he got kicked to the curb by us when he acted like that.

Citizenship is the main obstacle. The problem with only having a permanent resident card( green card), is that you need to have it for 5 years before being eligible to apply for Citizenship. Once you had it for 5 years and paid the few thousand dollar fee you can apply. It's not as easy as signing on a dotted line. Or join enlisted, serve for 6 months and then you expedite the process. I joined enlisted and got it that way, but even still I received Citizenship one year into my service and got clearance 1 year and 3 months in. Now with Covid the process could take 2 years and up. Either way, both take time and each is a sacrifice in its own way.

My guy, SeaBees are badasses who get to travel a lot & have a lot of career opportunity options available to them when they get out. You could get a higher level construction job anywhere in the country as a former SeaBee, especially as an equipment operator or an Engineering Aid. All of the CB rates are very solid, you just gotta pick the one you are most drawn to. The different CB rates are some of the only non-NSW Navy jobs where you won’t get stuck being “haze-grey & underway”. But chances are, as a CB your command likely won’t let you cross-rate to BUD/S. I personally have never heard of a SeaBee becoming a SEAL. Sounds like overall, “choose your rate, choose your fate” hasn’t really changed in the Navy… If you ONLY want a combat profession, either go enlisted SEAL, or if you simply don’t have all competitive PST scores, then go Army for a combat MOS if your choosing, and go Ranger or SF whenever you’re ready. But if you’re really hung up on SEALs, then try your hand at getting competitive PST scores first, & see where you stack up. Also keep in mind that SeaBee’s do get their own weapons training & can deploy to hot-zones in order to build infrastructure.

My uncle went from US Marines to SEAL. Graduated BUD/s class 156 Anthony O’Brien. Retired LCDR lives in Massachusetts son! One recipe to make it through buds, at least what I learned from him, is that those who make it through, don’t need somebody to tell them. He told me that the ones who just want the title and to go home to be that “cool navy seal“ out of the group of friends, will be the first to quit, the popular dude that’s jacked has all the seal magazines, brags to everybody that, he’s been training for years and he’s gonna kill it, usually quits, the person that you’ve never thought would quit, usually quits and when that person quits it’s like a domino effect. Especially when others look up to somebody else. He said that to be brutally honest, The little dudes or the short dudes seem to make it through, and or the extreme sports type of guys. Like in his buds class, he told me there was like five or six surfers, a few skateboarders, and freestyle walkers, usually with the ones who would make it or would be a good majority. Cool ass skater dudes who are quiet and keep to themselves are usually the ones that would be graduating lol or the Matt Damon looking dude that’s 5 foot 5 160lbs

the first time seen in video when one says about the time going to spend NOT at home either from start of BUDs, completing the SEAL qualifications, to being deployed, return to more training until next deployment continued cycle till get out one way of another. in '03 i was recalled to active duty, deployed with BMU-1 at NAB (was ACB-1 prior), on way home from deployment a BMC SEAL was recruiting, i talked to him, said he could get me age waiver, teams could use BM1(SW)'s with my prior training/experiences. got home told wife about it, she was go for it, but she couldn't comprehend when start of BUDs wouldn't have much if any contact during (of course her response didn't have much contact while deployed) and then 2 yrs training, and be deployed till either finished contract/retired or kia. i already knew my body was breaking down age 34, wasn't going to waste anybody's time not to complete. was 9 months later redeployed with IBU-16 a boat unit and that took enough toll, didn't take long before after deployment really body breaking down. satisfied with my accomplishments, things got to experience and even some of them long no sleep days. now days seems like many who been there done that are making a pretty good money in some form.
