Google “wikileaks Taiwan” to know DPP’s politicians have been using anti-China and independence (which US does not grant) as tools for election purposes (Taiwan’s Netanyahu?). KMT’s stance is find a balance between China and US, just like any EU countires do unless US forces you not to. DPP’s stance to China is no communication (for its fake independence attitude), but still let ECFA trade agreement previously made by KMT with China automatically renew. The inauguration speech of Taiwan’s new DPP president (only 40% votes and a minority parliament) overemphasized the threat from the CCP. This is a consistent tactic of the DPP. Whenever the polls drop, it’s like a chihuahua calling out the CCP. US had been hoping that both sides of the Taiwan Strait maintain the status quo and never allow Taiwan statehood and independence.

The U.S. cries about China's involvement in Cuba, which is remarkable because Cuba is a *completely sovereign* state. On the other hand, the U.S. purports to observe a "One China" policy, which implies that China and Taiwan are part of the same nation. The Taiwan strait war or current Ukraine war may cause big trouble to US when US get involved directly in either of the wars: currently US nuclear warheads are around 3700 vs Russia 5600. China nuclear warheads are estimated at 2000-3000. Assume it is 2500 for China. Combined nuclear warheads for Russia and China are 8100 vs US 3700. Combined territory for Russia and China are 27 mil sqkm2 vs US 9.6 mil sqkm2. This means if nuclear war start , it is high likely US will lose the war.
