My favorite moment out of any James Bond film is that shootout scene in the court room, you see how even with very little verbal communication that Bond, Mallory, Moneypenny, and Tanner all moved like a unit because these are all people with field experience who understands instinctively how to work as a team in moments like this. Rarely does a Bond film also allows the MI6 team around Bond to shine, and their teamwork just speaks volumes. Also Mallory deserves a bit more extra credit because you think at first he's just a bureaucrat who sits behind a desk but little by little you get hints that this isn't just someone who talks a lot but someone who speaks from experience - Moneypenny and Bond's conversation during that shaving scene at first reveals that Mallory has military experience and was a POW during the Troubles in Northern Ireland (which was a very bloody and painful conflict), and then in the shootout at the court room, when Silva and his men bursts in and everyone ducks, but Mallory is the only person to jump over the desk and run into the line of fire to grab M and thereby taking a shot for her. And you understand why Bond would respect Mallory as the next M, because he's not just someone who sits around giving orders, but someone who knows what dangers he's sending his agents into.
@BaddMedicine3 жыл бұрын
Mallory probably should get a little credit as you mentioned.

Bit harsh on Moneypenny. A few hundred yards away with the target on a moving train and confirming that it wasn't a clean shot. That's on M.
@BaddMedicine3 жыл бұрын
I would agree, it's on M.
@thechanges23273 жыл бұрын
Everyone's always harsh on Moneypenny on that scene. She specifies that she has a shot but it's not clean, doesn't have time to get in a better position, not to mention Bond and the other guy were fighting on a speeding train. And honestly she WASN'T going to take that shot because she didn't want to hit Bond. You could tell by the hesitation in her eyes, trying to see if Bond's fight would leave them with enough space for her to pull the trigger. But M kept screaming in her ear to take the shot and she didn't want to not follow that order considering what was at risk so...she did it. But everyone always blames her. It's such a fantastic sequence too and really is one of the best openers of any Bond film.
@deangraves74622 жыл бұрын
It's about knowing when not to pull the trigger. It is one of the central themes of the Craig Era. No Time To Die sort of pays off a lot of the Craig Era themes in clever ways, I just wish the villain had more to do.

28:32 The one time I actually shed a tear in a Bond movie. And the moment is even amplified when you see the Being James Bond documentary about Daniel Craig's tenure and how much of an emotional moment it was for the entire movie crew to film this scene. Director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli were in tears.
@thedefinitionisthis3 жыл бұрын
It is definitely odd that it's only the 3rd movie for Craig, and that everyone's calling him old. But you also gotta keep in mind that when they went into production for this movie, they really approached it as a milestone, as the franchise was celebrating 50 Years. The plotline of Bond being old wasn't necessarily a slight on Craig's version per se, but rather a commentary of the idea of Bond as a cinematic mainstay. Personally I loved it. It was about deconstructing everything we know and love about Bond, reassessing him, and building back up. The end is amazing, as everything familiar FINALLY becomes established for Daniel Craig's version: the classic MI-6 office, the Moneypenny reveal, a new M, and finally the formal call for him to go back to work. Loved it.

A unique approach needs great execution to be great. Skyfall has one of the worst modern movie protagonists. He promises to save Severine, a victim of sex trafficking from a very age. Yet, just uses her as a means to an end, like Silva- the fricking villian. He feels no compassion or remorse after her death. Additionally, Bond is the reason M dies. Why would you defend the most important person in MI6 and British Security in an abandoned house that’s barely armed? The writing for the character is also really inconsistent. He fails basic fitness tests, yet can combat Patrice and take out three of Silva’s goons(too fricking late, Severine died). Holy sh’t, his agency in that scene…. He fails his accuracy tests, which is why he misses the scotch shot. Yet he has marksman accuracy in the court house. Wtf???

I think 27:36 is my favourite scene in the entire movie and it’s all down to how good of an actor Javier Bardem actually is. You have Silva going to kill the woman who betrayed him but there’s so much more to it. He goes is as Raoul Silva, a man hellbent on killing M for what she did to him and he is so determined until he sees her wounded. As soon as he sees that, Raoul Silva fucks off and Tiago Rodriguez replaces him and you see and hear it instantly. The care he still has for M is obvious right from the moment he opens his mouth to say she’s hurt. It’s obvious that no matter what she did to him, he still loves the woman who technically raised him. The look on his face just says it all really And in that moment he realised that HE was responsible for hurting her, he realised that *he* was the one who got his mother hurt. It may not have been him who physically hurt her but he ordered his men to attack and she was wounded because of it. He hurt his mother and he wasn’t happy about it. He believed that he wanted to kill her but deep down he couldn’t. But he chose to ignore that and he forced Raoul Silva back into the frame. Holding the gun to her head ready to kill. You then have him physically fighting with himself. He is trying to keep Silva on top, trying to have him stay in control and shoot her but Tiago Rodriguez is trying just as hard to push his way back onto the surface to stop her being killed. That’s why, in the end he chose *her* to kill the both of them. Tiago came back out and he knew he couldn’t kill her. He may have hated her for what she did, he may be permanently scarred from what she did, he may have suffered excruciating pain because of her, but he couldn’t bring himself to kill her. And I don’t think he could live in a world knowing he was dead. He could barely live with the fact that he had hurt her! So in the end, he didn’t to kill her, but he didn’t want her to suffer either that’s why be begs her to do it. He didn’t want them both to suffer anymore and didn’t want to watch the woman he called his mother die. As much as he believed he wanted it, he couldn’t bare to live with the thought of her not being in the world anymore. I am so glad Bardem played Silva! He remains my favourite Bond villain (I also love how the camera pans back over Silva before the scene ends. Showing that his character’s acts will have a lasting impression on James Bond - killing M will impact him for the rest of his life)
@BaddMedicine3 жыл бұрын

The courtroom shootout is flawless. Tanner and Moneypenny doing their jobs without thinking. Mallory and Bond communicating with looks. Bond provides the cover for Mallory to get her out. It's that scene were Mallory learns why Bond is 007 and fully trusts him. When he comes in later and catches Q laying the false trail through the traffic system and tells them to carry on he is fully in on Bond's side and trusts him. It's such a cool few minutes of the film. And Ralph Fineness is perfect for the role. Javier kills it as the villain. The whole "who says this is my first time" thing was hilarious. And blowing up the old estate... practical explosion with large models. The next film contains the largest on film practical explosion ever. I believe it still holds that record actually.

I was on vacation in Cardiff, Wales when Skyfall came out and I went to the local IMAX to watch it. It was a very unique experience a Bond movie, esp. this one in a cinema in the UK compared to Germany. There was a lot of cheers and clapping when they revealed the DB5, and the end scene was more or less a way to connect Skyfall to Dr. No from 1962, when Sean Connery first walks into M's office and introduces himself to Miss Moneypenny. The only thing missing is the hat stand.

I still think to this day, this was the best "bond" movie. It had a great plot, great back story of the title character. And arguably one of the best villains in the whole franchise. I was torned between Raoul Silva and Auric Goldfinger. But Silva JUST takes it for me. I know I said it's a great back story to bond, but this movie was really M's movie. Everything revolves around her but doesn't stray away from it still being a bond film. Of course we know it's a send off to dame judi Dench since this was her last in the role. It was purely because when reading scripts, she forgets her lines. So Dame judi Dench wanted out. But how they handled the replacement of "M" was also brilliant. Just everything about this film is just executed so well. And it has my favourite scene in the entire franchise. When M was quoting Alfred tennyson's poem, and we see bond running to the aid of M, the poem just fits in who bond is. And the score by thomas Newman for that scene was sublime. I've rewatched all 25 bond films recently, and connery still is my favourite, but skyfall is the best. It was casino royale, goldfinger, Dr no then skyfall as my top 4. But as of just watching recently, I can't help the fact that skyfall was the definitive bond film. And it's now my favourite and I think, personally, the best as well.

Having seen No Time To Die (don't worry I won't spoil it) my official ranking of the Daniel Craig Bond movies are as follows: 1. Casino Royale 2. Skyfall 3. No Time To Die 4. SPECTRE 5. Quantum of Solace I actually had mixed opinions on Skyfall when I first saw it, my biggest gripe with it was actually Javier Bardem's performance. I just loved him so much in No Country For Old Men, but I just didn't feel like he came across as intimidating in Skyfall as he did as Anton Chigurh. However, in hindsight, I think Casino Royale and Skyfall are the best DC Bond films because they actually try to flesh out Bond as a character with a backstory and real human flaws, while also going beyond the cliched one-liners and corny jokes. I also liked how they made M look like a villain as well like when she casually admits to throwing Bardem's character to the wolves for the greater good was a really interesting spin on her character. Still love the reactions guys, and keep up the good work.

While I really wish the overarching storyline idea in the first two films could have worked out, I can't deny that this film was so great because it chose to just be a simple, standalone adventure, like the old school Bond films were like. Even right down to the villain, it's all very old school. But it also mixes in the new stuff that Casino Royale was doing, which gives it a nice different feel.

This for me took some beating and I say that because Skyfall had such a brilliant Director, the story was spot and the actions scenes like the opening scene kept me on the edge of my seat. Javier Bardem was one of the best villians. I was more convinced with him than Safin in No Tine To Die. Judi Denchs performance was excellent. I was gutted they had killed her character off, I think she were better at being M than Ralph Finnes. Casino Royale was probably one of my least favourites and No Time To Die adds to that list as well. All of the others were brilliant.

The main rule is if theres more then one bond girl, one must be a sacrificial lamb. Still, most of us didnt like what happen to Severine. Specially after we found out about her past, and how she wanted to leave this world. Severine is a mix between Andrea (the man with golden gun) Lupe (licence to Kill) and Paris Carver (Tomorrow never dies). Her few moments in the movie, made her one of the best Bond girls! Silva is probably the best craig bond villain.... Le Chiffre was a good one, but Silva is on another level. The way she torment and plays bond, is just amazing. Javier had no problem to make that homoerotic scene so funny, interesting. Even when he says "mr bond" in such sarcastic way. Silva is also a mix between Elektra King (the world is not enough) and Sanchez (Licence to Kill) M is more ruthless this time. previous Bond, we could see she was a little harsh, and we have a few glimpses of how far she will go. I like the recycle idea that M created a villain. She created Elektra King, but advise Mr King not paying the ramson, and now she also creates Silva, by not saving him. Skyfall recycle some ideas (which is not a bad thing, if is done right) from previous Bonds eras. Casino Royale and Skyfall are the gems of Craig Time
@BaddMedicine3 жыл бұрын
Silva was always a step ahead.
@outlaw50153 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry, I’m going to have to disagree. Skyfall is not a gem. Not even close. You brought up Severine. In movies, sometimes characters die. However, this movies treatment of Severine is appalling. It’s brain dead and mean spirited. There’s also a ton of other issues wrong with this movie.
@cassandramcbride70073 жыл бұрын
@@outlaw5015 as for Severine, yes. Her character was completly wasted. If she was like Solange (Casino Royale) we wouldnt feel bad for her. But they give her a tragic background, and we do care for her. We wanted Bond to kill Silva and free her. Yet, she was treated like nothing. But this is a huge problem with Bond Girls in Craig Time. Sometimes the Main are not interesting (im still angry about future Main) and the secundary end up been more interesting and better (strawberry, Severine or Lucia). Sadly we do not have Femme Fatale maybe Valenka (but she was just there) Sure there are some issues, but far worst then Quantum, Spectre or No Time To Die (which we will discuss when the time comes)
@outlaw50153 жыл бұрын
@@cassandramcbride7007 I’m glad we can agree on Severine. However, I’d still say Skyfall is worst Craig Bond film, and one of the worst Bond movies. The thing is Quantum has some great writing and Bond feels like a hero in it. It’s issue is that it’s editing let’s it down. Spectre is boring. The thing is, would you rather be Confused, Bored or Infuriated by a movie? Skyfall is an infuriating movie. The closet thing I can relate it to, is Disney Star Wars. Technically impressive, but the writing is cheap. They show Bond doing his Bond one-liners and gestures, but when it comes to writing a compelling protagonist, they do the opposite. He has no compassion and he acts far too late. They do all these things to make him relatable, but they fail at the basic level. Bond shows no humanity, when it came to Severine. It makes his reaction to M’s death feel unearned. Plus, there’s the pretentious sh’t. “The old ways are better”. The old ways that M didn’t trust in the beginning on the train? The old ways that put false hope in a person enslaved for most of her life? The old ways that couldn’t prevent the death of the most important person of MI6 and British Security? Bond is a terrible hero and protagonist in this film.
